Thanks for the comment! really liking your sketchbook progress... especially the anatomical studies of the arm with the muscular details! I need to more of those! Very informative!

Also the top image is really nice!

in terms of critique the only thing that i would recommend with your pencil sketches (and I am by no means an expert when it comes to this sort of thing) is to maybe try doing some of your drawings with absolutely no emphasis on lines, but in just tones... for example there is a lot of really heavy contrast in some of your images where it goes from white, to a mid grey to a black and then a lot of outlines.

I may be completely wrong, but it tends to help me... really try and focus on working with some really *delicate* lighter tones first, so that your sketch is really faint, and then slowly build up the forms towards darker (but still not really dark)... and only add lines where they are necessary (the best example I can give is to look at ZhuZhu's work... he hardly uses any lines whatsoever... just tones. For example, with faces, instead of outlining the face, try to create the line by the area of contrast between the light skin and the dark barkground.

I hope this helps, and once again, just a suggestion, I am by no means qualified in this area

off to a good start here, i would definitely say you need to spend a lot more time working on anatomy do more life drawing, study loomis/bridgman/hogarth etc. etc. i would also suggest you try to enhance your values a bit more to help give more depth and contrast to the image. other than that just keep on doing what you're doing.

Keep up those anatomy studies n life drawings. I think you will benefit a lot from doing more observational drawings though. Draw from life, its a very good way to grow in art. As you become more experienced from drawing the real world they will inform your concept work too!

Looking good! You have some pretty cool characters building up most definately. Just keep on pushing your characters, infuse them with as much "story" as you can, think about what theyre doing and or what theyre about to do and why. Little mind games like that help move a piece along. Also, as Im sure youve done already, keep drawing from life, as much as your time allows. Be it from the tv, magazines, photo books, all will help instill a more innate sense of proportion and anatomy. Its all about repetition, you dont necessarily have to study the crap out one particular photo or master painting vs. throwing pencil to paper from "real life" as much as you possibly can. Results will become apparent in no time and push your characters/concept work to whole new levels!

Heres a couple of more posts....EXAMS OVER....can draw more, post more now....the muscly thing...i call it entrapped...because thats how i feel sitting in those boring Data Logic ans Design Analysis lecture..........the other one a quicky....15 mins i guess.............i like her!!

PS: i know anatomy of that entrapped guy is totally wrong....wasn't thinking about anatomy in the frustration of the moment.....ball point pen on paper

hi adi your work is good, specially when you are doing it side by side along with your studies. everything seems to be fine except some face, specially of lord krishana and arjun from mahabharat. faces seems to be flat they lack a sence of 3 dimensions rest is good. skull is superb. i am too new to this field. i am also in love with art so i gave up my 3d animation career and shifted to art. hope to see you someday when i come to mumbai.

Your characters and studies are coming along great! I would agree with others that the studies focused on anatomy and inspired by life are the strongest. To achieve that kind of solidity and structure in your more imaginative works I would suggest focusing on large shape relationships. Think about weight and make sure you have a nice solid foundation before adding more specific and linear details. As someone else suggested you might try a drawing with no lines at all to prompt this way of thinking. Using charcoal or some other large smeary medium might help you to loosen up and create form and value structure from large shapes. You do not have to start every drawing with cubes and cylinders or anything...you just want to be able to see the form of the figure in clear and basic terms from the beginning. Try to look at a figure and understand the structure without moving your eyes...see the whole figure at once. This is how you comprehend the overall form.

I'd recommend sticking with drawing from reference a lot in the beginning! It will help immensly!

Do some more environments such as the burning trees. That looked good, although I might have made the sky flames be forming barely noticeable flame skulls up there or something, just to make more to look at.

I think you have good imagination to do that sort of thing.

SOoooooo....finally my prelims are over and me gonna get back into art now.......a lot of people suggested i give up drawing everything from circles and lines .....so i concentrated more on the overall shape and structure rather than the details.........took about 2-3 mins each....really helped....thanks a lot people.

Just Playing with textures..........dont have a wacom yet ....so its irritating to draw with a mouse and keep adjusting opacity......so i avoid doing digital work..... anyways a few speedies to test brushes........
