Not quite yet - though there are self pub kids books that you may want to keep your eyes open for!
The giraffe feel the most successful - I have no idea what he's doing, but he's adorable.
The ideas themselves are great; the other two feel kind of unfinished, particularly the piggies. Maybe a little more in terms of detail - they don't need to be overwhelming. The alien kinda looks like he's floating above the road, for instance. And the foreground pig doesn't have any shadow underneath him(on his belly).
Minigoth is right about the giraffe looking the most complete. I think it has alot to do with the expressiveness of his eyes. The other characters are cute, but not especially well defined and their expressions are just kinda well, painted on.
Add a little more detail and contrast by way of shadows and I think these will really pop.
Do pig studies. Lots of them. Then exaggerate once you have it down.
I actually kind of like the alien one. It would've helped to use value to differentiate the foreground from the back, make the ground in front a different value from where the cows are. Give the alien and cows more shadows.
I agree with everyone about the giraffe, but what on earth is going on?
I worked on the values and shadows, and the anatomy of the pig. I hope these are improvements. Any suggestions?
Kiera- Thanks for responding. I havent had much time to work on illustrations, as i have a job, and my computer hasnt been running too well lately. However, I have worked on these images (probably more than an hour for Each to make the recent changes) and others during the past five months. I just tend to jump around from project to project.
Im questioning why you think these are still in a sketch phase. I like illustrators or artists that keep their brushstrokes in the final image- such as john singer sargent. I aim to keep that effortless yet refined look. I dont want my pictures to look overworked or overdetailed, but I still want them to look Complete. Does this make sense?
Im also wondering why you think the alien composition would look better with more space to the left. I thought he looked best off to the side?
