Hello, I'm new to art and this forum. Thanks for taking a look.

hey! nice, making a sketchbook is a good start!
uhm...as far as art goes, try to start thinking of things in basic 3 dimensional shapes: cilinder, cube, sphere...
If you´re doing figurative art, you´ll have to start thinking 3 dimensional, as everything in life has 3 dimensions. Drawing them in basic shapes is a good way to start thinking about things like anathomy, that may look hard at first, but as soon as you realize that you can relate everything in life to a basic 3 dimensional shape, then you´ll be able to draw anything from the combination of these shapes...

Ok, update. I have been lazy. Thanks to pepps for his advice.

the feet look very nice!
the eyes lack of form, they look a bit flat. Try to think basic shapes. the eyeball is a sphere, and the eyelids wrap around them. You should feel the eyeball behind those eyelids, in your drawings.
it looks good, now do moar!
the key to drawing is drawing, drawing, drawing, drawing, and then some more drawing. =)

Just keep up with those studies and you'll improve. For you right now, pencil mileage is important. Keep drawing, drawing, and drawing. At this point in your artistic development quantity, not quality is the key.

Watch out for those arms, they're waaaaay to short. The eye studies look pretty good. Keep drawing from life a lot, photos are ok but not nearly as good. And draw draw draw!

@ Raiderukkus - Thanks for stopping by! You're right, I need to study more Loomis.

@626elemental - I went to life drawing session yesterday (no instruction) and felt completely lost. It was really hard. I remembered your advice about measuring heads and measuring angles, which helped with these drawings, but I didn't have a "method" like step 1, step 2, etc. Do you have a set method you use with your drawings?

I worked on some more eyes from various references...magazines, Loomis, Google Images, and comic books.

Keep drawing like crazy... I'm not sure why but your digitally painted stuff is a lot tighter than your pencil sketches... more tonal control perhaps? Keep sketching like a madman, and try to get some of that tonal control into your pencil sketches.. try to refine your pencil strokes, with some more flowing lines instead of hatchy, feathery ones, and smoother shading and tones.

Ookchk - Thanks for the encouragement. I'll work on my pencils. I signed up at the Watts Atelier for a Saturday drawing class. I am very excited about that.
