Below are a few block-ins for very basic direct painting. It seems that beginner painters want to overcomplicate and over see things in the beginning stages of painting an object. I've found that simplifying down to the most basic shapes, values, and hues then building on top of those shapes is key. If I'm approaching a painting or object in a painting that I feel is complicated I have to break it down even further. It depends on the object and my skill level. Treating a surface like a topographical map can help a beginner painter break down a surface into shapes rather than trying to mimic a surface in paint thats usually too thin. I broke down the process for my very beginner painting students. Hope this helps.
