    Cartoon Studies and Pokemon

Hi! I'm here to show a piece of myself. I'm a WIP.

Currently working on basic Preson Blair cartoon studies, mixed with some Pokémon.

Previous work is mostly Pokémon. Yea, I like Pokémon. Not the show, not the games, just some of the critters.

    Last drawing before pandemonium

This was my last drawing before the sketchbook. First some reference studies from official manga/anime, then the WIP.

lovin the pokemon sketches... i bashed pokemon for years and then about a month ago got my hands on a gba and seriously havent stopped playing red since... nice work, the sketches of Eevee with the grid lines laid over are really nice, I think that the lighting overall could be more focused though, if you catch my drift...

Hehe, watch out when you bash something, you might start to love it!

Focused... as in there's too much saturation, so the eye keeps wandering? I need to mull it over more.

    Interesting subject matter...
(I have nothing against Pokémon, I mean, a good few of the critters are great designs...)

One problem with the colors on the Eevees is that they do not reflect anything from the background. Color is always reflective, so if you have a green background and then completely brown/completely gray creatures, they aren't going to fit into that background!

Thanks dmitri, you nailed it! Stared myself blind on that. I guess it's what I know from the 3D world as radiosity.
I goofed with the underpainting, the color separation started there. Should've taken more time for it.

Now heyyyy, those gesture / loomis drawings are very nice. And I'm not just talking about the context. I'm talking about the clean lines and the care you've taken to go over them once more. That's good!!

Also: "Hi! I'm here to show a piece of myself. I'm a WIP." is quite a nice quote.

Try to draw/paint more furred creatures from life if you can (if you have a rabbit or cat or something that's asleep, draw them while they're not bouncing around causing mayhem around the house)!

    Rough Pichu

You're right BlightedArt, I don't know much about fur yet. With Pokémon I'm also still figuring out where between realistic and manga rendering my sweet spot is...

Nettle_Mountain I'm still on DA as well. I'm at DA for the fun, I'm at CA for the skills.

Quick roughies after visiting Redfrog's sketchbook. Sweet stuff over there!

allright, here we go: I want you to design your own monsters, you decide upon your own artistic sensitivities what they are but taking a bit distance from drawing only one subject, herefore pokemon will help you to become better. Design your own "pokemons" and draw them.

    will wait

Ah, really like those figure drawings. I think I'll get a pdf of that book. :] You improved, so much, in that one post. Such a variety of great work here, from the refined paints to messy b/w. Keep it up.

Haha, ditto for me. I started with Pokemon, but it was a mix of fursonas, crappy people, and b/w emo stuff that you all shall never see.

Yeah, it's great to check out what other stuff there is out there. I must've changed my style 5 times because of that. xD! Great still life! Maybe eliminate the outlines/sketch?

You have a lot of potential, and I kinda like Pokemon (not as much as I used to nine years ago). After you get good with the studies, maybe you should diversify beyond Pokemon.

Wow, the painterly feel was nailed on this one, the lighting is very mysterious.

I've been a fan of Pokémon for a long time, and it's very exciting to see someone on CA take a shot at it. That being said I would really like to see more studies from you and less Pokémon art.

The more you focus on aspects of nature you focus on, the more dynamic your paintings and drawings will become. After you take a while to study on more of the basics, you will find things that you can add to your paintings.

    Rough times

    Thanks, I'll keep it up!
Time is getting a problem though, so I need to increase my speed and stick to rough drawings for a while.

Today's stuff: doodles fleshed out from random squiggles (like the monster from my previous post), posemaniacs fast and slow, an outdoor color study, and some Pokémon action.

Hey! you really seem to love pokemon
why dont you try to design your own pokemons? (or critters like them).
pick a theme and start fleshing out your ideas!
as far as your paintings go, try to balance them out a bit more by making the backgrounds less saturated. at the moment its a bit color-overkill!
(i think the one from oktober 5th is an exemption, you worked a cool background against awarm foreground/monster which looks really good!)
and for your drawings, if you want to make a critter appealing to the eye ty to give it thick, smooth outlines. our brains are very lazy the less it has to interpret the more it will like to look at something, giving a creature thick out lines makes it a lot more cute!
you are making good progress please dont stop working!
