    yo!

    Good update.

I'm always amazed by your posematic work as usual. The drawing with the toilet paper looks a bit strange; I think it's the ellipse in perspective that looks too flat...although that might just be the angle you're looking at it and you can take my comment and kick it in the teeth. Ellipses in space are damn tricky.

    keep up the good work!

eminkey2003: Yeah, it´s easy to fall into that habbit, didn´t even realise it until you said it Nice idea for an excerise.
crabbyclem: Yeah, I think the perspective is a bit off in on the toilet paper roll.

Great hands, but try not to taper the tips of fingers so much. I see you keep it loose, but maybe you're going too fast. Sometimes they look like knives.

Your latest self portrait is taking strides in the right direction! There seem to be some anatomy/structure issues (tip of nose, left eye, back of the head), but your overall concentration on accurate shapes is great. The cloth studies are also really good.

Keep up the good work my friend!

Man its great to know that my advice is actually helping you, love the latest charcoals, and definitely the addition of the background makes the figure much more alive. As for that self portrait, like Brink said, anatomy issues, one thing I spot right away is that the ear is too small.

BRINKMAN!: Yep, I think I rushed it, will take my time and get those things right next time.
Alm0st: Yeah man! I tried out adding a bg as you suggested and I think it works really nice. Yeah, I will pay more attention next time.

    Thanks guys!

I like it! I'd like to see you take a stab at rendering your digital doodles in the same way you make your still life studies.

Nice studies. I like the DSG too, it's a bit on the soft/fuzzy side, but it works here.

    Keep on keeping on.

I noticed that you make lots of studies of figures and hands, but never parts like torsos, legs, arms, etc. Major body parts like that. Of course, I haven't studied in months, so I should get to that right away too. I'd like to see all these studies come together though.

    yo!

Nice updates. Figure / Gesture work is solid as usual. My only suggestion is the sketch with the bottlecap and brush look like they're floating in white space. The objects are nicely rendered, but maybe a bit of a drop-shadow would make it look grounded.

BRINKMAN!: Thanks man! Took a little break but i´m back again
eminkey2003: Yeah, definantly right. It´s great that you comment on these things, I tend to not spot it myself. It´s just that, especially hands are so hard to get right but I will start doing some Hogarth as soon as school starts again (home on vacation now).
crabbyclem: Yeah, I will do that on the next study or try drawing some environment also.

    Update:
So, I have been very lazy lately and not so motivated, sorry guys for not updating but I will start updating regulary again. Just had to take a little break Not so much, but a small update to get things started again, some sketching, a self portrait and a threadless submission. I hope it goes well, I will post the link when (if) it gets approved.

That first page of hands is great-- flowing lines, but still such solid form. I've seen a lot of people do flowing lines, but it usually makes things look watery. The face is too square though, and the shadow on the right cheek should be a little fuller. Eyes and nose are way too small too. I think the sketch got more of it right. : /

eminkey2003: Yeah, you´re right. The eyes and nose are way too small. I re-did it many times but couldn´t get it right, maybe i´ll do a quick paintover to try correct it.

Nice, solid cars, for the most part. Try flipping the reference different ways when you're trying to get a likeness.

The horse studies have solid forms, but I still don't see it in the human poses. I guess it's not a big problem, since they're done quickly, but they seem to have the same problem as the "knife-fingers."

slyx: Thank you for the nice compliment!
eminkey2003: Yeah, I don´t do that often enough.
I see what you mean and yeah it´s because they are done quickly (30 sec poses). I focus mostly on proportion when doing those studies but I will try doing 1 minute studies next time.

Here is the link to my threadless submission, I don´t think it was that well recieved well well, will do better next time!

    Happy new year!

Nice, this one seems to have more thought behind the idea. Even if just a little. I realize that not all artists want or need to put a lot of effort into their ideas, but you always do constructive work like anatomy studies, so you seem like the kind of guy that only draws doodles when he's out of ideas. I could be wrong. Doodles do work on their own though, and can be turned into more thoughtful ideas too, so I don't mind so much. But I went through a phase where I only did doodly things, and I felt like I was just indulging myself.

Me, I always seem to get muddy when I don't have a direction. On the other hand, sometimes I feel like I'm only doing easy things when I draw within a subject matter (i.e., "today, draw Roman soldiers"), but I could be being egotistic. I often think I know my own strengths, but then I try a new subject, and I realize I fall short in that area.

    Food for thought!

    Yo buddy, Happy New Year!
It's nice to see you becoming more and more economical with your lines, that is a great skill to have! I would like to see some variation in line weight to go along with that economy, since that would help add a sense of varied mass to your line drawings.
The latest digital piece represents a big step forward in terms of lighting and color use. It could still use more hard edges to help define shapes better and some darker values to even things out a bit, but I really like the mood and contrast between the cool blues and warm reds.

eminkey2003: Yeah you are right, I think I doodle too much, It´s just so hard for me to start a bigger project. I think I have gotten used to only sketching all the time. I´m going to work on this for sure!
BRINKMAN!: One thing I haven´t at all been paying attention too . I will try using my brush pen more when doing poses. Yeah the digital ones end up a bit blurry, will work on that.

    Update:

These digital sketches could be pushed a little further. Try developing more form and depth in them. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Nice values in these latest ones. I agree with eminkey though, these could use some more time as they don't have much volume right now.
