special K>>> bumpity bumpity ... yeah the "GO" stuff is looking awesome ... of the stuff i've seen by you lately the huge wallpaper sheets of black scribbles on white are particularly awesome. i know it's typical of the ca mentality to hate on that stuff but they remind me of the things i like about seeing a jackson pollock in person. Ahhhh.... noise! so those are $120? not a bad deal! if you want a scan or print of one i'd be thrilled...just hook a jigglemanure up.

Jiggs- Unfortunately the large scale scribble drawing was taken down, it's currently in two pieces. One put up on Thomas' wall, and the other balled up in mine. I really need to get it patched up and put on my wall.

Man...As I was finishing up these pages the book's binding fell apart. Though this will make it easier to edit, redo the pages that suck, and drop the ones not needed. Still, showing someone a book with all of this in it and a big floppy mess of pages sucks. I need to find somewhere to get it rebound.

ahhh... nice! hope you didn't spend too much money at kinkos... hehe... it can get pricey there.

anyways, the last page definitely feels like a high point...really nice and psychedelic work you've got going there.

i know it's gonna sound a little nitpicky... but... you should try to get an economic and smooth treatment on the faces there... get the drawing right and ink them more... poetically / lyrically ... the jagged outlining style works great for character-brimming grinny-grimey dude-mugs, but for a kiss? maybe not so much. think of the really sick and smooth medical illustration linework that is so efficient yet so simple at depicting 3d forms... that kind of thing. anyways, just some thoughts, really beautiful work, in general. .. glad to see you are cranking out the fuckin go again.

friendlywriggles- yeah it was a bit pricey, but I really had a hankering to get a few prints, I'm sure I could of found cheaper and more efficient manners to go about it, but since when have I been efficient?

I plan on redrawing several pages as is, I'll do a redo on the kiss image with your advice, see how it goes. Anything else, go ahead and holler at me. I want this shit to look extra spicey, you know.

HHH really cool stuff going on. enjoying the pencil studies o' faces, especially the various expressions and line weights. the graphic novel is looking awesome though i do wonder about the limited usage of dark blacks for added contrast, especially if the book is to be printed. the last expression on the last panel is very strong and inspiring!

th-E --thanks for the comment. As I said, I'm really digging the art cards you did, looking forward to more of them. As for the dark blacks in the graphic novel, that's something I'm still working on. I've been really hesitant to go dark dark so far, but I'm reworking a lot of pages, and trying new things.

First some WIPS and last some more studies. I'm thinking about starting to do some celeb portraits and such. I want to start getting work ready for a website, and I'm trying to figure out what would get the best attention.

Tandy- You're right. I really should spend some time researching what's hot right now, and kind of apply my work to that direction. I guess it just calls for more work!

If you apply that hefty reserve of patience you've got to learning how to better render three-dimensional form I think you could take your abstract stuff (and all of it, really) to a whole new level. I bet you would have a lot of fun with penciling texture. Really interesting work, keep it up.

Wilbur- Thanks. You're right, I really need to spend some time with form. I'm pretty weak with a lot of foundation skills. I kind of found a niche and ran with it.

If anyone has any crits throw em' at me. Wilbur down there mentioned my need to work on 3d rendering, and I've got a few things I'm doing concerning that, and if there's anything else I'd love to know.

Hey man, lots of your bigger one panel pages are great. Lots of great angles being shown. Keep experimenting with your layouts and it will get better.

You have a pretty limited value range in a lot of these shots. Is this intentional? The stuff that has a full range of value really pops then there are images that rely just on contour and no shades of black. I think this is effective but you may need more consistency.

Another suggestion would be to much your lineart a lot more rich in terms of black. You could do this digitally or ink over your originals with a darker ink. That can be a chore though...

I really want to know more about what you are putting together here.

I like a lot of the detailed experiments on the first page and the feeling of freedom conveyed in the comic, especially with the man falling. I'd also like to know more about your project. As for crits, I think it would be interesting for you to try some 'tones' on your comics (like they use in mangas) or just more solid darker washes for contrast (like Matsign said). I would also pick and choose where you use detail a little better, in some places the skin flecks or facial hair markings are distracting. Also, The guys iris/pupils are off kilter in the first image panel of the last post.

Matsign- You're right about the need for more consistency with the different values. For the most part the images that relay on the contours and lines were done intentionally, but I think as I started working values into other pieces, I should of decided on one way or the other, or at least had a better balance between the two.

The idea behind this is basically a very loose journal/biography kind of thing about a year I spent living by the beach. I never really had a set plan for it, just kind of added and edited it as I went. I've been posting these as I finish them, and way out of order, which I think has definitely made it harder to make any sense out of.

Nam- The main crit I've received on this has been about adding darker values, and the images I've been finishing lately, I've been trying to take that into account. I'm not sure how dark I want to take it, but I do need to work on it. Eyeball noted and I'll fix that up tonight. I havn't thought of using tones, but it would make much cleaner values. I don't know to much about them, so I'll have to do some reading up.

These comments made me think that it is time to try something new with these, so here's a little experiment I did trying out some coloring. Any suggestions? Should I color up some of the other panels, or keep them black and white?

I only double posted those face studies, my energy levels have dropped significantly recently. I think its the allergy meds I've been taking, they seem to knock me the fuck out. Anyways, just a few new random pages I finished.

I tried darkening up one of the pages, though I think if anyone thinks it looks right, I'd rather go back and do the darkening with the inks instead of photoshop. Let's just call it a test.
