King Unicorn's Clay Chain Maille Tutorial

I’ve received some requests here and elsewhere for an explanation of the process I used to create the chain maille effect in my Self-Portrait Bust. To answer your questions, I’ve created a walkthrough of my quick application method for fantasy sculptures.

It’s not a perfect recreation of chain maille in any way, shape, or form, but it will provide a passable look you can manipulate to meet your particular needs. If you can use it, then I’m glad to have been of assistance.

I've included a sample of the document below. You can grab the complete tutorial in PDF form here: LINK

... a cry went up into the shuddering air, and faded to a shrill wailing, passing with the wind, a voice bodiless and thin that died, and was swallowed up, and was never heard again in that age of this world.

Extremely well done layout - Are you in the layout business?

Great Tutorial - I will have to do a creature with chainmail just to try this out. I have had a dwarf warrior with chainmail in my head for several years - perhaps it is time to let him out.
Given your post in my Croc-thread, I can see you havent tried brown stuff for the rings - but making the "clay-wire" from brown stuff, letting it harden for and hour and then applying it, might work? I'll give your tutorial a try with brown stuff - and post the result here.
Did I mention that the layout was great?

Thanks guys. If you try this out, do share. I'd like to see the different applications that others come up with.

Aseyngel: I've not used Brown Stuff. I'll certainly give it a try. I've also seen another kind of Green Stuff/Brown Stuff product in use by the miniature industry. It has a gray coloring if I recall correctly. Have you stumbled across this? Glad you liked the layout. I wanted to offer something that wouldn't require you to scroll all over the screen to follow along and could be easily tucked away in some folder somewhere for later use.
