Fraz: Yeah I didn't realise that till I looked from a distance, thanks for pointing that out. I'll probably try to do something more photo realistic for my next paint
Walid: Thanks man
Just a few torso bridgeman studies, tomorrow I don't have work so I should do a lot more.
Looking good man. The bottom right one looks skewed, however everyone does that now and again. Keep up the good work, just remember to do some imaginative stuff to see if you are remembering anything.
I nearly missed the ‘and’, and thought you were referring to yourself when you wrote ‘a little plasticine monster head which is 4 cm big’. Pretty good SP even if you have a squished nose.
On your pencil drawings, if you make the outline very feint and then shade up to it, you might get even better results.
Fraz's Cheers, yeah I tried some imagination stuff today but not much, I have allllllllot of work to do in this respect
Black Spotlol plasticine monster, maybe more appropriately sexy beast. I'll keep in mind your tip, these studies are really helping me with line control, cheers
bigfooTrooper Thanks man.
Here is just some more bridgman studies and my pathetic attempt at IIIIIIIMMMMMMMAGGGGGGINATIONnnnn.
Yeah, you need to take on board what you are drawing from bridgman and be able to use it, or else you are just copying! Try more stuff from imagination and it should force you to learn more.
Yes apply what you've learned
You need more stuff from mind!
Other than that its fantastic
Keep it up!
Keep working from imagination, it will comes, Try to also understand shapes, volumes of body part, instead of copying bridgman studies ! Maybe this site will help you : http://www.angelfire.com/art3/kchendemos/. And I really wanna see more creative stuff, like enviros, chara design, vehicles, weapons, ... Keep at it !
bigfooTrooper Thanks man
Fraz Yeah I really need to, did a few imagination figures this time, thanks for the tip
Lilnebo Ditto, Thanks
Walid D Cheers for the link, I will start doing creative stuff soon starting with the challenge should be good fun.
Did a few studies and all the figures are done from the mind. Tomorrow I dont think I can do any drawings because I'm working, then straight after I'm having a big Christmas eve dinner but I'll try and make the effort in the morning before work to draw.
Cool. Nice feet studies, I need to do them too!
One thing about your drawing as a whole, try to get some structure and 3d-ness to them. Right now they look quite flat and have no planes.
Remember the forms, that is what studies are there for.
It is a 3d object, treat it as one. Particularily on your last page, you need to pay more attention to the rotation instead of just squishing in the features (pecks mainly) as that is mainly why it looks flat.
Pay attention to the width of the arms and legs compared to the torso.
I dunno if you are, but read bridgman as you are going along. He talks about the hips ribcage and head and how they are solid, and that they are the whole reason that figures react the way that they do.
Sorry if I seem harsh or anything negative, just trying to pass along info that I have learned.
Fraz Yeah man thanks, its not harsh at all it helps me look at my errors more closely and yeah i really need to work on my 3d'ness.
Heres a study of a portrait of Gustov Klimpt and 3/10 thumbnails for the ssg challenge, the third one really really bothers me, though i dont know why. Merry Christmas everyone

bigFootrooper: Thanks man, yeah I will be choosing that one for my paint.
Ok here are all my thumbnails for the challenge, I think ill choose the first one and the first one on the second row. Also I found it really hard to draw legs so I squeezed in a bit of leg studies before work.
Im not sure if I will be able to finish both characters before the deadline at 8 am tomorrow.
You have got some really great studies, something which I should really spend some time practicing myself.
"Ive been a lurker for awhile and finally decided to start my own sketchbook"
Same here, though I was more of a stalker than a lurker.
Keep up the great work!
Royzy Thanks man, I hope to see lots of your work in the future
Ok heres my entry for the challenge
the girls face is reffed a bit, but I didn't follow it exactly I hope that's not a problem
I'm not really happy with my end result, but whatever it was fun and my second concept ever done.
The gun is ridiculously out of perspective.

Cool stuff man, my main concern is that there is no distinguishable light source in the second, thus making it look flat and fake. In the first, you have a light source, but have done everything like it was rounded or a cylinder, including the face. You need to pay attention to forms, especially in the face, as if you have a bad face, it will reduce the quality of the whole piece dramatically.
They seem quite static also. Try to make the poses a bit more interesting and dynamic, maybe have some foreshortening to make it look more cinematic.
Keep trying dude!
Fraz yeah I had trouble applying light to the second one, i was trying to apply the light so it looked like it was coming from the right side, but obviously failed, It was rushed a bit because of the deadline, I might go back and fix it up more.
Yeah its a bad face, I'll soon start a big study on heads soon.
Yeah I also need to work on my pose's too, pretty much need to work on everything lol.
Thanks for the detailed comment man
Bloody constant headache for the past 3 days, and couldnt draw anything, and when I did they weren't up to my standards. Here are some head studies which are shitttazzzz, I really need to do more of these head studies.
Good stuff so far! Nice studies, they're always a good thing to do. Let your imagination come through though. I'd really like to see you do some characters, enviros, even just a whole composition with a background and everything. Have fun with it!
For the chap, the arm armour won't let him bend at the elbow. Shorten the shoulder pad and move the middle section up. Keep practising.
Black Spot Wow didnt notice that before thanks for the tip
626elemental Thanks man, I will try to do it more often
Ok more studies, should of done some imagination stuff, but oh well. I'll soon try out the acrylics which i got for christmas.
eh im killing my eyes from looking at this monitor and doing studies
peace

Played with sketchup today, pretty easy to work with I should play with 3d more often. I just made some random building nothing special.
Here's a few tonal studies, I really need to try some other shading styles. The chair is from life.
I might update again today

bigfooTrooper I was thinking about it, but i wanted to do something more complicated. cheers
Procrastination is a bitch. Heres a self portrait done with a mirror, alot harder than it looks.
Hey man nice sp, it is a lot harder than it looks, ive not managed to push one as far as yours without getting pissed with it yet![]()
i was thinking about what you said about wanting a differnt rendering style, maybe you should try a differnt medium and then come back to pencil after, maybe charcoal.
but i think that because we use wood pencils(well i assume you do) we cant get that same texture as other artists get with mechanical pencils, what you think?
dan's sketchbook
The ssg with no name.. for now
NRX - Frasermct - Walid D - The wannabe Dr, Mr Phil - Dilated
You should sharpen your pencil more often and/or draw bigger, it will make it look a lot cleaner. An other thing is that you must not forget to add the cast shadow on the ground. It can really help ground the characters. Keep practice and study everything!![]()
Nice SP, and yeah, draw bigger and try get everything to look smoother and not as textured. Try shading a large gradient as smooth as you can and see how it looks!
Fraz Thanks man, Ive tried out a new shading technique to make it look cleaner, but i still need to practice it.
zelda_geek Thanks for dropping by, yeah I sharpened my pencil and tried hatching
Nrx Yeah I use a wooden pencil, you might be right we cant get the texture that other dudes get when they use a mechanical, nonetheless though we shouldn't be too far off. I ll get a mechanical pencil soon, thanks dude.
alright I've been slacking, i went to bed at 8 in the morning the other day, dont ask why, but I'll be coming back with more stuff than ever hopefully. Here's just come clothing studies which are using a different rendering technique than i usually do.
hey dude, really good characters ! For the last one, there are not just arms which are long, but legs are too small, on this character, the pubis is not in the middle of the body ! Anyway, keep that work up !
