    Space wizard art training

    REALLLLLLLLLLLLY OLD

Hey CA, Ill introduce myself I'm a 16 yr old kid living down under, my dream is to be a concept artist when I finish my education or at least have an occupation that has something to do with art. Ive been a lurker for awhile and finally decided to start my own sketchbook

Here is my very first attempt at digital art, finally pushed my self to try it out and its probably the most fun Ive had with art in a long time. It's a colour study using a ref, I made the mistake of using a semi low resolution and it came back and bit me on the arse when I was detailing the face and hands. Tomorrow I should upload a few other pencil sketches

    Crits are appreciated

The standing lady could use some help anatomically. Legs are off.

Try some studies with simple objects to get the hang of color, light, and just the way digital painting works. I'm pretty sure the official starter subject in digital painting here at ConceptArt is the apple, haha.
Artists have such a magnificent gift...breathing life into something with just simple lines.

i say to continue with the quick studies, they look very nice. experiment with different line styles with your pencil, and possibly use even more darks that you already do, to up the contrast.

    keep it up!

The trick I will tel you is observe detail 24/7. When you walk in the street, look at people walking, standing, try to figure out there bone, there muscle. Look at light, face detail, eyes direction. Alway be aware of what it's around you. Then put on paper what you saw. then look as ref, anatomy, light test to reproduce what is in your mind.

    and....practice practice practice.

Psychoboy what do you mean you hope it is gouache?

Lots of homework is piling up since the end of term is approaching but i managed to squeeze in a update, just a few action poses and another chick. I hate my lines, any tips to improve them?

Fraz: Cheers man, dont you worry there will be alot more than that came from.

Heres a self potrait that took way to long to do, and a little plasticine monster head which is 4 cm big, it was just to try a different medium out, pretty fun i must say.

Keep up the good work man, you have a real strong rendering style i think you should keep in mind what makes it work and just develop it so youve got controll over it, thats my opinion though touching it might kill it i dunno!

good to have you in the ssg anyway!

The nose in your SP looks kind of wierd, like squished. But I like the rest. Looks really painterly. Maybe try to blend it more and try get it more photorealistic?

Fraz: Yeah I didn't realise that till I looked from a distance, thanks for pointing that out. I'll probably try to do something more photo realistic for my next paint
    Walid: Thanks man

Just a few torso bridgeman studies, tomorrow I don't have work so I should do a lot more.

Looking good man. The bottom right one looks skewed, however everyone does that now and again. Keep up the good work, just remember to do some imaginative stuff to see if you are remembering anything.

I nearly missed the ‘and’, and thought you were referring to yourself when you wrote ‘a little plasticine monster head which is 4 cm big’. Pretty good SP even if you have a squished nose.

On your pencil drawings, if you make the outline very feint and then shade up to it, you might get even better results.

Yeah, you need to take on board what you are drawing from bridgman and be able to use it, or else you are just copying! Try more stuff from imagination and it should force you to learn more.

Keep working from imagination, it will comes, Try to also understand shapes, volumes of body part, instead of copying bridgman studies ! Maybe this site will help you : http://www.angelfire.com/art3/kchendemos/. And I really wanna see more creative stuff, like enviros, chara design, vehicles, weapons, ... Keep at it !
