Thank you for asking. I've been living on back-to-back antihistamines for five days and I thought I was just halluciginating or something.

    What's the deal?
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

    Gold stars for effort.

What point? What is going on?
For all that I am, And for all that I have done.
To hold on tight, Is all that I've known.
To let it go, Is to tear it from my flesh.
But to hold on, May mean my death.
So I look to the stars, And All that I could be.
And I will fly away, Bloody, Torn, And Free.

Shit loads of star-rated-threads here, and to a lesser extent in finally finished and the crit center. That's what's going on.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It was almost just the ‘Cheer me up’ thread that had 5 stars, and yes I agree that there’s been an outbreak recently, but then again I ignore stars because they can be misused so easily.

At least it isn't a whole bunch of 1 stars, especially in the crit center.

It never occurs to me to give stars, so I don't expect them. Never was into I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine.

Could do with a foot massage though at the moment.

haha, love the image. It definitely captures your inquisitive state of mind regarding the star system. Usually the 5 star threads are pretty good. 4 stars is decent... but that isn't accurate though.

I've seen 5 star threads in the sketchbook section that werent that great and 4 star ones that should be 5 stars, etc. I like the stars kind of, i feel like it makes me want to work toward an average 5 star rating, but i feel as a rating system in general it could be better.

I like a rating system...but it could be done a little better.

Nono, I GET the rating system. What I DON'T get is waking up this morning and finding EVERY thread in the lounge/FF having stars.

I don't care about stars, I don't care about the rating system, I'm not angry or amused about what's going on, just confused. After the recent talk about stars in the beta gallery thread it could be a few people showing how abusable the stars are, people having a laugh, davi/other admin having a laugh etc.

I just wanna know what's going on

On other forums I’ve got 5 stars and still I ignore them because it takes so little for someone to earn them. An honest opinion counts so much more, especially if it is from someone who you respect. If you are honest with yourself, does it really matter?

It happened last night pretty quickly with about 5 votes for 5 star on every Lounge thread.

I just assumed somebody had absolutely NO LIFE.

If we can rate threads with stars, why can't we rate the ones we don't like with "turds"?

it would be nice if an admin would find out who, ban them, and then undo this. I use the star system to find certain threads, scrolling down. Now you can't.

Isn't the star rating system based wholly on personal opinion? how can you ban somebody for loving threads?

Stars should be disabled.... because they inevitably lead to quality judgements on the work before the thread is even clicked on.

Exactly. As we've seen, it's so easily abused. What would the reaction be if all those votes had been to downgrade threads instead of 5 star them? I'd imagine alot more people would be reading this thread about now.

How about a system whereby people don't rate by stars, but if they choose, they can leave a public comment about the entire thread? The place where the stars are now, if you clicked that, it would take you to a seperate page where you'd leave comments about the quality of the sketchbook as a whole.

It would sure as hell give employers more to work with.

The point of stars is to enable one to easily see the general public opinion of a thread. In theory, if one is on a 10 minute break and wants to see a good thread in a hurry, their search is streamlined.

The public comment idea seems inefficient as a whole, as now you'd have two separate locations with people's opinions of any given thread (when considering the comments actually found within the thread). One can easily get an idea of the quality of a sketchbook by glancing at a few comments within (whether they consist of 'awesomes' or 'here's how you can improve').

    Just my 2 cents.

I just noticed my 'manners' thread has 5 stars. What the hell? In some cases I think people are being sarcastic when they rate.

The night it happened everything got 5-4 up to half-way down the forum...except the gallery thread (WTF?) which actually deserves it. It would have to be more than one person rating to get those stars though since a member can't re-rate a thread. Did the chat room get bored, or something...?

either that or some loser has multiple accounts. I stand by what I said. I guess all I can do now is go through and downgrade according to "my" opinion...
