Some lifedrawings from today and DSG 1396.
Sorry about the crap scans, it's hard to scan A1 sized paper and my photos were even worse. They were either too blurry because of the low lighting, or too bright because of the flash.![]()

Great to see you here – small internet! Haven’t seen your life drawings before and they’re pretty good. I like that dragon’s head.
Love those figures.
Very solid stuff, keep posting

Great start to your SB! Very nice figure drawings and cool dragon head in post #1
Keep posting!
Thanks you guys. Much appreciated.
Took the train up the coast to Australia Zoo yesterday and had the time of my life! Having lived in Brisbane all my life, I'd never once been to this place and it just shows how much I've missed out. Such an awesome place and if you're ever in the area, I highly recommend a visit! I'll definitely be going back there in a couple of months to have another go.
Filled about 22 pages of my moleskine, here are some of the "better" attempts. My gestural drawing is still quite erratic and messy, hoping to become a little more sure of my lines eventually.

So that's what it's like to do a graphite drawing.... it's been so long, I'd forgotten![]()

Nice. I like the way you draw eyeeees.![]()

True progress means matching the world to the vision in our heads.
But we always change the vision instead.
My only drawing from life drawing today. Well we did a couple of contour drawings, but I'm not gonna post those XP
This is supposed to be for my end-of-year folio. Would it be 'cheating' if I worked on it more in my spare time? I don't know if I'll ever get the same model or pose again. Not really sure if it's good enough quality... her legs are too short anyway.
Also, some pose maniacs drawings (one minutes).

Hey Bleupencil, welcome to our group! Nice art happening here! I really dig how you're doing your live figure studies, applying gesture and then filling it out. Love the movement in the water piece way at the top. Watch out for proportions. They're just fine in most pieces except for the one that has the finished graphite render (short arms, long neck, compact shoulders). That's unfortunate. Anyways looking forward to seeing more, it'll be a fun ride.

Cheers Eon, it's always nice to meet some new arty folks
In light of needing more practice and better work for my end-of-year folio, I'm committing to going to extracurricular life drawing sessions on Thursday nights (and maybe Mondays too, if I can swing it).
Here's tonight's.

Hey bleupencil, nice gestural sketches, i can see your anatomy coming along nicely. Keep up the great studies!

I'm really liking the finished work you have here, the fluidity of the life sketches is impressive too. Nice to be in your Ssg
You really have a style going on in your non-life work. It's cool to see.
I agree with jharford, you have a nice style. You're doing interesting studies, good amount of variation. I also like the dragonhead rendering, got any tips on value rendering?![]()
Cool shit going on here. Let's keep them coming. Nice anatomy studies and speed sketches! I need some myself.

Gorgeous stuff, bleupencil. I love how line-y your gestures are. You've also done a lot of great anatomy work. Whoof. Is it reworking motif that solidifies the knowledge freehand, or is it have immediate reference and the research to back it up? Master artists make it look easy, so I can never tell the difference between the two.

more more!, we demand more ( no pressure)
Thanks you guys!!
My internet quota has run out and I'm riding on 56k instead of broadband atm, it's hard to browse when things are so slow. Fortunately it renews tonight!
Have been blahing around and reading an awful lot instead of drawing these past few days. That's gotta change! Here's a couple of things I've been working on in between though.
I wanted to try and colour my plate-juggling chicky there, but now that the values are sort of down, I don't know how to go about colouring her properly. She's really brightly coloured and I don't know how to make it look realistic. Halp??

These latest posts are awesome. Love the colour palette on the bottom one. Working on shading and lighting will help big time (something which i need myself!).

Thanks Peetaer.
Randoms from today. Was in the food court at a shopping centre and decided to work on hands. I find it surprisingly difficult to draw a convincing hand at rest most of the time. Also, it's funny to observe the way people hold their food and their mobile phones.

Those last digital black and white studies are great!
Hand studies at the food court? Awesome idea! Way to make the most of a situation. Very well done, especially considering how little time you had.
I'm going blank on how to help you make the juggler more realistic with color. I'm thinking along the lines of what Peetaer said about using lighting (specifically its color). Once the source and color of the lighting have been established perhaps you would then know how the rest of the colors in the piece would react to the lighting and this would give it a realistic feel. Doing it over the b&w will surely help.

very nice hand studies, another great way to approaching hand studies is to break it down into boxes and practice box twist (not sure if i already mention this but glen vilppu's drawing manual has a great chapter on box forms) as for the juggler i'd keep pushing value first and reach a realist value sketch then start to use colors on an overlay layer b/c if your values are reading well regardless of what color u use should still read well as the light and shadows define the shape
keep up the great work!!

Self portrait. Bleh.
I don't like my face... looking at it for this was two hours of discomfort. Makes me wonder why I'm even showing it![]()

I think the juggler's light source is your biggest issue. If she's really brightly lit by hard, yellow light, your colors will be pretty saturated. But if she's got low saturated light, her colors will lend themselves more towards greys, blues, and purples. Is she lit by a spotlight, cause that could make for some dramatic shadows.
Here's a really good tutorial on environmental light; i.e. how the color of light affects shadows and such. http://tigrin.deviantart.com/art/Col...nment-31051556

great job on the portrait! ur values are really good and i think u should keep pushing ur value work, i mean that's like half the work right there!
we all gots things we ain't too happy wif in our lives but it's like matt mcconaughey says in 'dazed N confused' "i just keep on living L-I-V-I-N-G, alright alright"

@Droemar: Thanks heaps for that, I'll have to have a look and toy with the pic when I get a moment.
@Peetaer: Cheers eh, yeah I enjoy life drawing a lot more these days too. Maybe cos you relax about it and stop stressing over time, which is something I always used to do. "It's not perfect, arrrrrrgh!!!"
@snootchy: yeah, you got that right. Doesn't matter most of the time except when you have to look at it, lol! Cheers!

This is a bit of a drive-by post cos I have to get back to an assignment. For today's life drawing session, we went on a short excursion down to the river where many boats are moored. It's not a harbour or dock per se, but boats hang out there anyway. I dunno what you'd call it.
Anyway, we had to draw "watercraft" instead of people for once. It was a nice change actually. I'm so used to drawing organic forms all the time, these man-made structures are not really my forte so it was a good challenge.
Also played with some animations for the Sprite Animation Weekly.

haha, love your animations. Also those life studies are awesome. Keep them up.
