Great thread. Looking at all these before and afters, I feel even more proud to be part of this community. I owe a lot to this place. Amazing how progress is made in just a small measure of time. Vorace in particular improved in leaps and bounds! So jealous of his progress.

I'm sharing mine. AHH so embarrassing! First one was done in early 2003 before I joined CA.org. The second one was done July 2008.

    Awesome stuff lukavi

This is kinda funny; this same type of thread popped up on DA (which I replied to) but where we're all saying "ah wish I had improved more" or "I really need to get my ass in gear this year" they're over there saying "OMG I got soooo good over this past year, thank you devart!!11" and "my improvement really took off it's like so awesome" I took a look at some of these 'transformations' and I actually can't tell the difference sometimes.

I don't mean to prop up any stereotypes but it was funny to see the contrast

By my standards I've barely even touched my art supplies in the past few years. Still though, I feel confident enough about my progress to post it here. A thread like this can really cheer you up. The pages on the old sketchbooks are a lot more cramped since I used to use the same page for weeks at a time, nowdays I just use a page a day.

    * mutters something about how she hasn't improved enough to not be embarrassed to show it here *

So, I'm not going to show what I did when I first got here, as I didn't start my sketchbook thread until five or so months in to being on the site. So, instead, here was the image I was most proud of before I joined:

I have decided to show some work as well. It's not much and pretty the same character from a comic but I guess that's better to see the progress some more.

I think I've made some pretty drastic improvements, so I'll show work spanning a whole spectrum. With my commentary.

    WARNING: Big Image Dump.

    Before
    2002
I basically knew nothing about art. I just got MS Paint out and drew various superheroes.

    2006
Around the time I started actually becoming slightly interested in art. I also start looking for ways to try to improve my output.

    2007
Around the time I joined DeviantArt, one of the best and worst sites on the Internet. I also got my trusty Wacom tablet for Christmas.

    F*** YEAH LENS FLARES

Despite it's terribleness, this is still a favorite of mine. I don't think I've tried anything on this scale ever again.

One of my first digitally done pictures.

Early 2008 (around the time I joined CA)

    After
Most of these were done recently.

A bit old, but I'm still posting it.

Well this one is my first masterpiece. From reference, between 6 and 8 hours of work:

Summer 2006 (not sure exactly what month):

And these are a few from my sketchbook over the last week (wk commencing 11th Aug 2008 ). Around 2 hours each, all from imagination:

I kinda wish id improved more, but lookin back i guess its pretty good
Ill post some life drawings later too to see the difference there.

Took a while to gather my stuff together, but I feel as if I should make a contributing post here as well, seeing as how CA was really a key element to my growth.

So here's a single sample of the stuff that I was doing when I started posting seriously (you see one you see em all, for a few months I was doing nothing but haha) in February 2007. The next two are 5 - 6 months later. March 2008 I started to pay more attention to my lines in the leaves. The final portrait was done in May this year, and I did that in one day where the ones from before would have taken me a week.

And in February this year, I sorta dropped out of sight for a long while. That was because I was holed up in some secret place doing some secret training! Well, the real direction I wanted to take myself was as a 3D modeler, and I came to CA primarily to learn how to draw so my 3D stuff can get better. And I think my 3D stuff did get better, thanks to CA and the people whom I holed up with for 6 months haha. So, the last two pieces are the end product of a very long year and a half. I still have lots to learn, and I know I will still learn a lot from CA.

I really, really enjoy seeing how other people evolve and improve over time.

These were done about a year and half apart, the first is from May '07 and the second is from September '08.

This is from when I first started doing digital art in '06

and this is as recent as late '08

There's far older stuff I could dig up, but looking back on it is really embarrassing, haha.

February 2008, my first post ever on CA in the WIP section contained this, asking for help:

    Name: zombie-kitty-illustration.jpg
Views: 1409
Size: 41.5 KB

I had never even attempted a full on character, let alone a full blown illustration. I had never even dreamed of getting values or lighting right or even inserting some sort of environment for my characters to dwellin, but now...

Jan 12th, 2009, I completed my FIRST BnW COMPLETE DIGITAL ILLO!
here it is; Thank you CA!

ps: am I overdramatizing? lol It just means so much to me
I'm still learning anatomy, and my next focus will be color!

I'm looking at my old paintings and they are just... not good! hahaha coming out of school for general painting, I was just starting to figure out how to do illustration about the time that Dos Santos told me about CA, I know it was a big help in my development.

for some reason, I can't find the actual first thread that I remember posting art in. Unless I'm mistaken though, I believe this was included in it, round about August 2005:

and this from my most recent FF post:
