U have improved quite a bit in your paintings. Colors are better and your paintings aren't as blotchy as they where when u first started, but it stills seems to be a problem. I'm not sure how much time your spending on them, but it also seems like you keep going down this narrow path of low opacity mixing/over mixing of colors aka it seems like your letting the program mix the colors for you rather than u actually picking them.

Try doing some quick block ins with like what you've been doing then switch over to pure opacity.

Wow your digitals are improving greatly. Very nice execution of your newly found knowledge. I woud suggest spending a bit more time on each piece instead of "quickies". Quality over quantity With what you've learned so far I think you would produce a very high quality piece of work if you take the time and really study the ref. I use to finish drawings in 30 minutes or less. But I'm averaging 90 minutes or more now. Keep it up, you're doing great!

Been really busy and away for a while. Sorry for that, but I did fill up over half of my sketchbook, so here's close to half of those sketches. The value sketches are the last things I drew, so I went back through to fill up space on a few pages. These were mainly to work on line quality and fluidity. Next is value and design. I'll post these sketches within a few posts since it will be a large DL.

I think you've got good foundations for figures set up in the first post. Do more males! The hand studies are good, well formed. Your faces tend to be rather tight, but they loosen up a little as you go through the pictures. Like me, got to work a bit on getting values down smoothly. I just wish the lines overall were darker (scanner problem or pencil hardness?)

Ok, for teh crits.
First of all, awesome progress and huge props for making it to page 9 in what, 2 months?

Now your linework and rendering looks very delicate and appealing.
In your figures I most notice how the middle of the torso seems like you need to find out what's going on there, wich muscles are doing what and where exactly the pelvis is sitting.
This is an aweful region because some muscles extend to the back and vice versa, especially when the torso is turned around, or to be more exact, when those muscles turn the body. The torso is basically most flexible right between ribcage and pelvis.
There's a large bulby muscle sitting there wich causes an "extra bumb" in the form above the pelvic bone! I use an exclamation mark because that curve is easily smoothed into the curve of the hips when drawing but that confuses the perception of how that area behaves when the torso is bent or twisted.

I'm emphasizing this point so much because your figures look good and coherent otherwise.
It's just the middle wich is a bit rubbery at the moment.

Your faces look awesome! Very beautiful and your use of lines and tone is very well thought out.

Your digitals are coming along nicely. Just keep pushing the saturation.
Skin is somewhat saturated in shadows-speaking of wich, push your values. .
You can add in greyish highlights to balance out the color temperature (they will look cool in comparison) later on.

Really watch those saturation levels, your fruits muddy up a bit too.
In general you can say that on semi transparent, multilayered objects/surfaces, the saturation goes up because the other wavelenghts get "filtered out", leaving a purer light. (Or so I assume, at least that mental image works for me.)
When you palce warm and cool colors closely together in spots the brain will mush it into muddy soup. So you need to be careful of such accents.

Keep up that pace and you're soon to kick ass.

The portrait is cool. You seem to like doing extreme expressions. Out of curiosity, what medium or media did you use?

Don't have much to say about sketches, just you like to focus on section and then leave little detail for the rest of the figure. Not a bad thing since these are sketches, just why I can't say much.

remember what Dawson said about using brushstrokes to define the form? it's not necessary but when you apply it, it can really make a difference. It will make you feel and understand the form better too. Give it a try.

Also try to go more chromatic for the shadows and extra chromatic where the midtown and shadow meets. If you look at the photo ref, the corner of her nose and top of her forehead have that chroma glow to it.

Nice updates! ^^ Lots of nice sketch.
I like how clean your sketch are (compared to mine, at least) and lots of them are really nice. However, you seem to do lots of backshots, and I personally think most of them are contorting too much. I sense backaches.
It's a sketch though, so it's realy understandable.

Like the last sketch! The shading is clean (at least the shaded part) and how the soldier looked like he's going to take a pic with a cellphone tickles my sense of humour.

You got the right idea here. Try and really look at all the contour/shape subtleties in your forms, right now things often seem over simplified, and important elements, such as muscle groups and bone landmarks are getting left out.

Kat- Thx. I guess you could say that I build them, but I don't do it slowly, most of those value sketches were done with in 15 minutes. I want to do a finished drawing, so look out for that.

Cool stuff, Envisor. You've got some great character designs and the faces in particular are really well drawn. As far as paintings go, it certainly seems like you're improving and getting the hang of the digital painting process.

Honestly, I've not done much digital painting so I'm no expert but I'd say to try get in some different colours rather than shades and saturations of the same, base colour. Even colours that don't appear in the photo reference, subtlety blended in can give a painting a cool look.

You certainly inspire me to do more because quite clearly, it pays off. Thanks.
