Kinjura's Sketchbook: Thanks for stopping by. c/c invited

Hey guys! This is the first thread I've started on here, but I should be dumping a good bit of stuff as I get the time (and courage!) to post more.

Thank you so much for looking at my things.

    I'm so nervous

Don't be nervous, you're doing fine
I'm liking what I see, especially the dinosaur, but it'd be nice if you could refine it a little more.
Just keep drawing and posting, great work!

Something with the reptilian thing's eye doesn't look as fierce as its pose or teeth. A little more working on it and it'll scare most anything!

Good start here, keep it going! Welcome

Thank you guys, for all your comments and critiques. The best way for me to improve is for people to help me see what I am unable to on my own.

That lizard painting will definitely get the attention it needs after i come back from SIGGRAPH. If anyone else is going to be there, send me a pm!

Here's a new addition: It's something I'm entering into the EOW this week. Tell me what you think!

Just saw this in the EOW thread. I'm glad you've taken the appropriate route, as most others haven't. Civilization isn't just... huts and a statue, so it's very good you've chosen to REALLY capture the true definition of the word, and adding in a deliberately placed, architectural ruin. Though it seems like the valley just, ends at the horizon, nothing goes beyond it, maybe it even falls off like a massive waterfall. Many ways to go about making the very center of your piece less ambiguous and more defined without adding in much at all. And, this is all preference, but I believe it could be a wider format. Very strong work on it so far, man.

Don't think I'll be able to get to it tonight, unfortunately - but I should have more character stuff - including creatures - this time tomorrow.

You're... going... to... Siggraph? Hearing this news makes me as miserable as all the journals on Deviantart boasting about how they went to the San Diego Convention a while back. Anyway...

I love your new work! Is it of a broken walkway of a castle? Maybe I'd like to see a *little* depth to the broken path to the left: the rest of the picture's in persepective, but it's as if we're looking at the castle straight on.... I'd like to see debris from this old bridge still poking above the water, and some natural wear and tear (vines?) around the castle, as that area is made defunct by the lack of a walkway.

Oh, AND I'll give you my fullest permission to incessently nitpick at my work later, my imagination too often goes ahead of itself.

nice stuff so far, you have a very good grasp of perspective and depth. My suggestions would be to use a larger brush size most of the time, and only use a small brush tip for the very small details, the girl in particular looks messy because of this.

Also, on your enviros, shy away from white altogether.

    Keep em coming!!

Euph: I couldn't agree more. I went through about 15 major iterations of that particular painting and I'm definitely not happy with some of the holes I left in that thing. Once I get back, it needs some major attention. I'm hoping I can get more time to hop over to your SB tomorrow.

Nerahla: You're right about the big/small brush. I did a lot of practice on just that, tonight, once I'd read your post. I've got a few more pieces that I did tonight and i'll post those once I wake up.

Thanks again, guys. All of those suggestions were incredibly helpful.

Here is a character that a friend has been asking me for a long time to work on. I'm a douche

It's not even close to being finished, but it's been good exercise so far.

Rand: Thanks for the support - I intend to do just that! It definitely gets easier every time I post something; I find that it's pretty liberating tossing something out there for people to see and to tear apart.

Heavyflash: Thank you for your kind words - I'm so excited that you liked what you saw. The "style" comment. It's funny because I can't see my own style - and it's something i've spent a long, long time trying to develop.

Lateman: Thanks for stopping by, man. I did in fact go check your SB and left you some commenTs there. Hopefully we'll get an opportunity to work together some day

Hey kinjura, nice updates, the car is by far my favorite. Though the reflections on the bipeds confused me... . Keep it up!

Oh! and your link to your sketch book is broken (you put 2 "http://").

Yeah - that was something I'd modelled and rendered quite a while ago, when I was first beginning to explore Maya. Thanks a zillion for pointing out the broken signature.
