New Illustrations! **Update 8-31 Last page***

Hey folks! I hope everyone is doing well. I just wrapped up the Illustration Academy and I'm gearing up for my senior year here at Ringling. Here are a few of my recent projects:

I hope you enjoy and I always digg some juicy crits! I also have a bunch of sketches and what not in the sketchbook section.....

P.S. I leave for Comic Con in 3 hours so I hope to see you guys there. Unfortunately I don't have a booth but I'll be the pale skinny guy with a peach fuzz beard and a cap barely sitting on my head....hahaha.

    all the best!!

I did this piece in anticipation of Nas' new album "Untitled." Those into hip hop are sure to know the original name of the album. Anyways I did this after being inspired by the album and his message of equality. I did a whole drawn out explanation/rant about it on my blog. Gouache on illustration board.

I did this one for the May issue of Vibe magazine. It deals with how American Idols are being left behind compared to the original winners. Mixed Media.

This was my submission for the Totoro Forest Project. I did two pieces but this was the more successful. For some reason only the one piece appears on the site. They should fix that and include this piece too. Ink and gouache on paper.

I did this piece at the Academy. It is a portrait of the white slave from "Puddnhead Wilson" by Mark Twain. I'm thinking that the digital chain is not working...? Oil on canvas.

The Russian magazine Moloko+ asked me to do their cover a few months back. They simply wanted me to depict summer. This was the result. Ink, gouache, and digital.

This was my submission for round 2 of the Last Man Standing. I actually went back into it after the competition and tweaked it. Oil on board.

This is a self promotion piece. I did this last semester. The assignment was to do a billboard. I did one for New Era hats. Oil on board.

Francis, great work indeed. You have a really wide range and a real ability to make what seems to be casual mark making appear just right! Fantastic! I agree with the comment about the 'digital' chain. But maybe it just needs a bit more attention.

I agree that the digital chain is the weakest link in Puddnhead Wilson, looks abit out of place to me compared to rest.

I love your other stuff, particularly Outbreak(wow) and the self promo piece.

Hey Francis, I've been following your progress for he last year or so and I love what you've been doing lately. Good stuff!

I think I would have liked a more painterly approach on Nas' face in the first piece, to make him pop more. But maybe that would've made things too busy..

The white slave piece has been my desktop for the past month, can't stop looking at it ;D
I think the chain works like that.

Anyways, always a pleasure to see new things from you, keep up the great work!

Amazing range! LOVE the LMS piece. I dont like the chain, but it depends on what happens to the character's situation in the book, does he escape etc.

I definitely like Outbreak, the use of oils here is beautiful. The totoro forest is really cool, but it is kind of hard to see everything at his feet though.

PS: Maybe I will be seeing you in August.

Interceptor: cheers! The Moloko piece was a fun piece to work on!
mkat: Thanks, although I'm light years away from being a master..haha.

Great stuff. I reallly like the Nas piece (as he's my all-time favorite MC) but I agree about his face. His likeness could have been worked out a little more, but I love the idea. It fits the idea of the "Untitled" album nicely too...

Everything else is top-notch but I really like the American idol piece and the Outbreak painting...

Great style to your illustrations, they have a very edgy quality to them. I especially like the Nas illustration, it has a strong message.

but yes, some sweet stuff you got goin on.
