    Using Supersculpey firm

    quick question.

When I tried this, it is very hard and grainy. After a while of mixing, even though i got it into a round ball, i had grains still coming off it.

The way I use it currently, I mix it with some regular super sculpey. I am now thinking I am getting rid of it's best property..the ability to carve rigid details for faces, etc.

I need to ask those more experienced (I do this for hobby purposes): what is the best way to mix/use firm super sculpey?

    Regards.

    Sanjay

try experimenting with the percentages of the mix...i use a mixture of both as well. while the reg. is too soft i find the firm to bit too hard, so i mix them evenly at times, however if i'm doing something that needs a more firm base for details i add more firm. also i fond the using a pasta poller gives a better mix. i've also heard that freezing the sculpey for 10-15 mins can help with frim it for detail work...although i haven't tried that myself. hope this was helpful...good luck!

    freezing works

Yeah, i freeze my sculpey sometimes... it only stays firm for about 5-10 minutes after you take it out of the freezer though

It will soften with kneading and also by adding regular Super Sculpey or Vaseline as you work it, but after it rests it will again firm up quit a bit. I would recommend softening it to do your rough work, then let it sit over night so you can do finer detail work. I also agree that you should experiment with ratios of clay to find a mix you like.

I have tried freezing regular SS before, and while it certainly makes the clay firm, it also sweats form the room temperature like a cold drink making it difficult to actually work the material.
