Hello! I came as promised Nice variety...ok I say that a lot, but I think its important. The previous landscape was very nice, I'd like to see more of those. Sometimes I took a photo as a base, then changed it up and enhanced the colors which was very fun.

I ended up switching off very rough sketching paper to focus a bit more on linework since you can get smooth results...so if you feel like it try switching up your paper and play with different things. I think unless you are doing a heavy value study, you can get more clarity into more smooth paper.

Great improvement, especially with your use of color! On the last undead I feel the empty eye sockets are a bit flat, they don't quite feel like they extend back into the skull. Maybe some value adjustments so that the dark there would feel more round? Defining the eyelids a bit more could help too, a few brushstrokes to indicate the upper plane of the lower eyelid could really make the eyes more convincing.

This last environment is calling for an Indy

The prisoner's piece looks like need a bit more width on the shoulders and longer arms..

    Love the light too

The enviro is looking great! I would suggest subduing some elements. For instance, maybe keep your strongest lights near the focal point which is the statue in the middle because there is a patch of light that's attracting attention on the left side of the image just touching the border of the "canvas". The plants on the lower right of the foreground I would also lower in value. Keep the value range for that low to make them darker. I think you could just go over them with a light touch of the brush with a dark color to weaken them.

Maybe you could also work on the design of the statues. At least the one in the middle since it's the focal point and you could suggest details on the rest.

    Later!

sup Noodles, great updates on the sketches! I really dig this one alot has a really nice spacial feel to it! I think for your last sketch the positioning of the belt buckle is throwing it off balance, looks like it should be shifted to the left downwards slightly.

I use CS3 but I don't know the difference between that and CS2. What makes if difficult to use?

Hmm...I'm not sure if the orange color on the face is working together with the rest of the colors. I know the focal point is the eye but the orange is just too saturated that's why it's competing for attention. Might I suggest simplifying by focusing on warm and cool colors. Like a warm color for the light and a cool color for the shadow or vice versa. And after you've worked out the relationship between the two and the overall values, maybe you can start adding other colors into the mix that relate to the warm and cool colors that you used. You could probably create some kind of color harmony. Of course if your light is warm then your colors should be warm. The same with a cool shadow. I would imagine if you put a cool color on the warm light side of an object, it would look out of place unless if that cool color is meant to convey shadow. So you have to keep the relationship between the two consistent.

Oh BTW, I would also like to comment on the piece with the old man walking on the snow. I've been looking at that and I thought maybe a wider composition could be more effective. His foot prints kind of lead me into the right side of the image and it has left me wanting to see more. Your lightest values happen to be on that side as well that's why it has a strong attraction. So you could widen the composition and add another focal point. Maybe indicate where the old man had come from or something.

    Later!
