I would practice more on your values. Paint greyscales more. Especially portraits. I think it will help tons.

noni, säki oot alkanu taas postaahienoa!
yks nopee huomio: kun piirrät silmiä, niin älä erota alaluomea silmämunasta mustalla viivalla. alaluomen yläosa osottaa ylöspäin ja se nappaa valoa aika tehokkaasti, joten on yksinkertaisesti väärin käyttää siihen muita tummempia valöörejä...sen lisäksi painovoima tuo kyynelnestettä silmämunaa pitkin alaspäin alaluomen kohalle, ja se heijastaa valoa voimakkaasti (highlight).

Thanks! I noticed her arm too, fixed it as well!

Thinking everything in structures and forms is still quite difficult for me, but ill learn! thanks
shardana
Hey thanks a lot! i usually do a lot of B/W images, but i easily slip into colors, since its fun to play around with them

Heh kiitoksia, en oo tullu ajatelleeksi tuota aikasemmin, hyvä ku huomautit! pitäs päivitellä tätä useamminkin...
Anyways, heres a couple of enviroments, the second one is a bit older and quite unfinished, and the plants on the foreground are a bit too oversaturated...
A remake of an old speedpainting. heres the progress so far
Nice job with the speedpaints. Nice atmospheric pressure that you have shown in the newest.
A self portrait without a refIm quite happy with this, but there are some differences however... and when i look at my first attempt on the first page, i feel like puking!

I broke my habit of doing fast speedpaints only and spent the entire afternoon and evening on this!
@ nood>>> i think the self portrait is looking pretty good, seems pretty realistic and there's a good range of values. I see the hair in front of the ear, but i also feel like the anatomy of the ear would be a little more evident, even in the lower light situation. of course i understand its a sketch and all, but yeah, feels like the contrast should be slightly less on the nose, because it's rendered so thoroughly, kind of flattens other stuff out. good work though.
In general i like that you are good at taking a quick sketch and turning it into a more finished piece. how long do the speed paints generally take you? they're pretty impressive. the facial studies have a good feel to them, seems like you struggle a little with teh way the skull recedes in at the top of the nose. The placement of the eyes and cheekbones all seems pretty solid though. keep up the great work!

Hay Noodle, awesome stuff here mate.
Really enjoyed looking though here, and you've made such great progress.
Great speedpaints each ones looking better, and you mite benefit from doing some more anatomy and studies (but I think that's the same for most of us).
Keep up the good work,
matt
WHERE IS YOUR BEAR VEEMON???
Nice sketchbook noodle, i'm really glad I stumbled upon it. You've got a viking on the second page that I like allot.
Your environment is great.
I think this had been said by others. For enviroment, try study more from photo or life. Other then that, great SB and thanks for dropping by at mine.
Keep it up !!
ive been having my worst case of fever yet, and ive had no will, nor power to do anything for a while, but heres someting i made in hurry
i enjoy looking at your enviromental studies very much.. and by looking at ammount of faces ur messing with im sure u'll get there fast, keep posting your works!
Btw. Thank you for step by step enviroment of yours, im not into enviroment creation myself but at least u gave me idea on how to start.
Hay Noodle, sympathy's on the fever, my whole family came down with it over christmas...anyway nice SBThe step by step is cool, how fast do you usually do those?
nice works here! i like ur speedpaints, and u do well to not always do speedpaints, the knight drawing looks great, maybe post at a bit higher resolution?

Hi, again.
I'd like to help you out on your portraits. What I do is that I start with a line drawing, and I try to get accurate as I can before laying down tone. If you see something wrong, fix it right away. You'd want a good foundation to work on. Check your angles, negative shapes, the distances between parts. This part is often the hardest for me, but it's important that the drawing works right at the start.
After the line drawing, I start focusing on the shadow shapes. I use a medium value to lay down the shadow shapes while I use a big brush. Use smaller brushes if you're refining or working on detail. From shadow, I work towards light with white being the highlight in most occasions. Also you can do good with just 5 values. 3 in for the light and 2 for the shadow. White being the highlight and black for the dark accents and other parts that could be as dark ( hair, cast shadow, eye lashes , etc). Simplifying is the key.

Angel Intheuk
yeah, it sucks really. Thanks for comment! it usually takes from one hour to twoJoey-b
Im sorry, thats the biggest version of it! it started with someting like 1500x800 or something, but i messed it up and lost the original one so thats the only one i have left!
Dizon
Thanks for the input! ive done like you said sometimes, but i always go back, intentionally or not, to blocking midtones first without making even outlines or anything, and start to define form with highlights and shadows. I guess i really should pay more attention and put more effort on these portraits. Thanks again!
approximately 10 mins on this one
Oh and heres the final version of the one with the knight and all
Hey NoodleDoodle!
'Welcome' and nice sb.
Keep up the doodling because there is some very clear progress going on. Those latest portraits are more accurate and they also seem to have cost you much less effort. They are getting more 'natural'. Especially for 10mins, the last one really is standing out. Strong form.
I can sure learn a lot from your enviro's. No crits here. I think the last piece, with the knight, is not as good as your sketches though. It seems much less spontaneous. Especially in the front, I think the road has lost some of its perspective. The armor skirt is a little flat. I also think the composition could be a little stronger. It might be because the knight is looking to the right, but there is a lot of free space on the left. Nice to see a finished piece from you though, and the forests' depth is clearly there.
Keep it up! And you should try out the daily sketchgroup sometimes, for the challenging topics and often crits too.
Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks Anthis! its really an honor to be in the same SSG with you guys! I do agree with you about what you said about the piece with the knight and all, the composition isnt really the best possible, and the lack of looseness you said, its all because i decided to spend a few extra hours with that one
Anyways, heres some random noodle i made in school, i really like it myself. I tried concentrating more on the values this time
Well, let me start off by saying I really dig all your environment speedies.
As for your latest post; I like a lot of things about it and the general feel, but there's a few problems I think. First off, there are some problems with the anatomy. The main thing is that I think the torso is a little small, and the pelvic area a bit big, maybe. But that might just be percieved because the torso is a bit small.
Second, she looks a little manly. I think that's mostly due to her nose and chin being a little big and heavy. As for the shading, I find the different parts of her/her costume blends into eachother a bit, would've liked to see a bigger range of values. And not just going from darkest dark to lightest light in the same area, but giving the different parts of her different values while still shading it. Like on her tank-top thingy, maybe the darkest dark in there could've been a bit lighter, to indicate it's lighter in colour than the rest of her clothes. Hope that all made sense. I really like the rendering of the pants, though, think you did that very well. Your lines look good too.
Keep it up!![]()
hi noodle (it's bizarre i posted in your sb, but don't see something)
anyway, i like very much your environements
the ten minutes portraits is good improvement. Your last post of the girl is very good (i wouldn't go so far on shading)
keep in that way![]()
a quick painting using multiple photorefs
Hah, I'm just glad I found your SB too... pa-pa-pa-parsakoira? you have really improved loads since you started this. a lot of the pics look kinda familiar ^__^
What a constructive comment ._. Well, keep it up! love ur environments, anatomy is always an issue for everyone, so good luck with mastering that. Have you tried http://www.posemaniacs.com? those do help with that.
cheers //Lotta/mördarpäron
FUTILE EFFORTS <-help me I suck.
Hey good job with the last two!Really no crits. Just keep doing what you're doing. Me thinks you're on the right track.
Thanks Ahlbeck and dizon
Some moss, hell yeah!
Cool. These kinds of scenes are nice to look at. Might I suggest accents of yellow that is higher in value and more saturated when compared to the brightest green you have?
