    Wink Destruction

Hey guys, I just started this afternoon on something new. I didn't feel my other piece had much potential because I hadn't thought long enough on design or subject - it was more to get used to my digital tools .

I like the direction this piece is taking so far, haven't run into any big obstacles. Please crit, and tell me if I'm doing some weird perspective/lighting mistakes. Thanks!

Near your edges you will run into a problem with this perspective. by have all 3 vanishing points visible, you need change it to curvilinear perspective for it to read well all over. This means starting fresh...

here is a CA tut on it as well

Or you can crop out 2 vanishing points and your problem will go away. However, this doesn't make it "accurate" it just makes it "look accurate", and that may be enough for you, it may not. Personally I think you are at an early enough stage in the process to start it fresh.

Very useful post there, Blue, thanks! I however will be cropping out the bottom and right vanishing points, and had already planned that beforehand. Because I heard that it's always better to make a canvas way too large for you, I just left loads of blank space (and also for the perspective lines to fit inside). I'll be reading on the curvilinear stuff though for future works .

I'll post an update tomorrow, I'm going to collapse right now.

Little update today, nothing major. Added some fire to the building, adjusted some lighting on the robot. I haven't had much time today but i'll get to it eventually.

Hey, I think this is a good start. Got kind of a war of the worlds thing going on.

I'm not sure how much dead space you're planning on cropping out, but there needs to be more stuff. If this is a city there need to be more buildings. Try and figure out where the streets are in perspective and organize the buildings around them. Recede them into the background.

Also think about making your horizon line clearer and more descriptive. Right now there isn't a hard enough edge defining the sky and the ground making it difficult to get your bearings. When you clarify the horizon, you can use the higher contrast edge to suggest whats in the far background. More city in silhouette? more alien ships? play with it to sell your scene.

    Rock on!
    ...my humble and uneducated opinion.

Thanks for the post Mute, it helps a lot I'll work on this right away and post once I've blocked out some more of the city and horizon.

'Nother update. For claritys' sake, here's the same image as the attachment but with the perspective outlines of the roads (white lines) and the buildings (red lines).

In the front around the building which is on fire is a park with broken fences, cars etc.
