Hi,

Some more pencil sketches and a quick one in Photoshop.
Some random faces from imagination, and plant studies from nature in black prismacolor.
Pencil figure drawing gestures from life and studies from reference.
And finally two attempts on digital landscape sketches from imagination.
Only pencil sketches today. Some spaceships, cars and costumes... there is so much to learn...
On that last sketch, I love the poses for 1, 2, and 4 - especially the defiant, haughty head tilt of 4. The third looks off-kilter - between the leaning of the body and the heaviness of the costume at the shoulders, she looks like she's about to tumble to her side.
Get those hands right! I know these are quick sketches, but make sure what few strokes you put down for the hands are good ones - the hands for these should convey an elegance and femininity which is so evident in the rest of the figures. The third figure especially falls into the "mitten hand" syndrome, where you end up with what looks like mittens rather than hands with individual and distinct fingers.
There's also another trap which you should avoid, and that's the "hiding hands" trap - placing them behind the figure, like in the anatomy study in one of your earlier posts. Oftentimes it's not a conscious choice, but I remember always getting called on it when I was in school - "why are you hiding her hands?" or "why are the hands behind his back?"
I know, hands are tough - God knows, they're tough, and something which should be studied/practiced a lot...but not impossible to master, you just have to keep drawin' 'em...![]()

I looked at yours, now you look at mine...sketchbook here

Good start, work on your proportions and anatomy though.

Thanks for your replies Nam & madhatter106.
I took a break between figure 2 and 3 of my last post and did not realize how off number 3 looked until I finished figure 4. A frustrating moment.
You are perfectly right about the hands - I find them difficult to draw. They need practice. So do proportions and anatomy![]()
Passed week I did a bad job on improving that, mainly because I was lazy :/ Not good...
Only a small update now: ballpoint pen sea monster sketch scanned from my sketchbook and a photography (no DIN A3 scanner available) of a ballpoint pen line drawing of some flying vehicle.
You got some pretty cool sketches here. I'm really digging the way you draw vehicles and spaceships. I can see that your figures and anatomy studies are getting better also. Keep up the good work ;-)

Thanks LECO!
Nothing from imagination this time. A few pencil hands, figures and quick sketches on the go of some alleys (pencil and warm gray marker).
Huuuu, had some immensely time consuming studying due. Not really an excuse. Nor is my laziness...
Anyways, I'll give it another try and start off with the last two sketches I did, and even scanned (without posting them). It's been almost a year since...
I am going to post an update with some newer stuff later.
wow, keep posting , i love your marker sketch, especial the 2nd one !
Ok, a first update of what little I did between now and last summer.
1st picture is a ballpoint pen sketch of a vehicle concept.
2nd picture is a terribly clean photoshop rendering exercise (background is a photo)
3rd picture: Some images of a storyboard (copic marker).
4th and part of 5th picture: quick marker development of a vehicle, leading to bottom of 5th picture: photoshop rendering
Picture 6 and 7: ballpoint pen/ marker sketches of some vehicle concepts.
windboi: Thanks, yes I'll try to keep posting - really!
Great SB. I love it until now. Your pencils make me envy you, hah. I love your use of markers, especially those warm grey sketches. Good job with the creativity on the rest! Keep posting! I will be sure to come back
Oh, and if you can, drop by my sketchbook, it would be an honor![]()
wow, you've improved a lot since you started this sb already!
your recent marker renders are awesome and the designs on those "vehicles" are great!
better stick around and keep updating this time.
looking forward to more.
I am going to post some older pictures today, because I haven't had a chance to paint lately (busy with graduation and balabla), but I am planing on getting back to it next week after my final exam.
first is a gouache painting of some flying thing with sails in front of a mountain.
2nd and 3rd are speedies in photoshop.
4th experimenting with brushes.
monotony: Thank you! Your kind words are a motivation!
Alternative: I am glad you like that warm-gray marker experiment. It was part of a relaxing vacation in Italy...![]()
Some older figure sketches today.
Pictures all done in Photoshop.
1st: guess there is something wrong with her face
2nd: quick sketch, using a square brush and eraser tool
3rd: working from a black silhouette, adding lights
4th: no idea, something blond spacy in a uniform
5th: focus on subtle facial expression, she's supposed to be some sort of witch - well, that's what I tried to achieve :/
Good evening!
congrats for the vehicle designs, especially the spaceships; I like them a lot, they have really original and neat shapes.
the environments are really good too, maybe your women have some minor issues, but those are just details after all, nothing that some good application can't fix, that's sure ^^.
keep the works coming!![]()
Woah, I have a site too! (Crappy multilanguage option implemented, and a tad old in the drawing field)
Here's a little update with scans from my sketchbook.
Two pages with little ballpoint pen sketches of tiny figures... which is fun to draw but most likely not really helpful in terms of anatomy
and a page of something like sci-fi cityscapes in pencil.
Kerion: I'd say some of my women have some major issues- I'll try to find a way to improve my knowledge of anatomy.
some pencil sketches from imagination...
something rough and digital:
a quick one and a quick one that took more time than it should have.
I am experiencing some irritating color shift when uploading images to the internet, loosing saturation in certain colors (reds and oranges). I tried to correct the colors in PS but have probably overdone that![]()
crossing a dusty desert and practicing tones![]()
A girl with 3 cats and flying colors ?! Well... uhm.
PS no ref (obviously).

Great stuff, you're already improving, maybe try and put more contrast in your pieces though? The shading is quite light in all your portraits.
Keep going!![]()
Elz: Thanks for mentioning the lack of contrast in my pieces. I am quite insecure about color and contrast so I guess that's why my shading is not so bold. I'll pay more attention to contrast from now on!
I tried a little collor/contrast correction on a detail of yesterday's post.
And some color sketches ... with a tiny bit more contrast? Hmm...why is this so difficult?

Woops double post.... sorry!
Quick ones: Portarit and landscape in PS, last one Painter. Those painter brushes need some getting used to!![]()
Hey i like the way things going on in your SB you've got a great potential.
1. Your cars/space ships concepts are really cool so as your enviroments but you need to push a lil more with the human anatomy (copy from magazines, anatomy books, make life studies).
2. There are a lot of sketches in your SB that look like you're working on a concept for someone, it's ok if you do but if not , just loosen up and draw different things, trees, books, clouds people dogs - whatever, make 2 minute life studies in trains on buses and etc. it will help you with the anatomy and will put some life in your darwings.
anyways keep up the great job.
Open for commissions......just PM me.
Fallenangel: I agree; more anatomy, more from life, loosen up!
So here we go...
Another go at PS portratis,
two pages of sketchbook randomness,
and figure drawings/ gestures.
Great sketchbook you have here man! I especially like the designs. It has already been said that you should study some anatomy to improve your figere drawing. Do you know the books of Loomis? There are free pdf-versions on the internet. He teaches a very interesting way to construct figures and faces. Hope this helps!
some really great work that inspires me to draw, do you do this as a profession? some of your drawings would suggest this. My only crit would be that a few of your female faces have quite masculine jaw lines although maybe this is deliberate
