    Converting paths to shapes?

I've been switching this multi-layered PSD file from Painter to PS.
I just opened the same PSD file in Painter and received the attached message.

So it wants to convert my paths to shapes? I found out paths are vector-based drawing, but I don't remember ever using them in PS.

Is there another source for Painter thinking I have paths to convert?

    Thanks.

I get that every time I open a Painter file in Photoshop and then take it back to Painter. I just click "NO" and let it go. There are no paths to convert in any of it.

I work with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter. Sometimes with the same image. An Illustrator or Photoshop path is the same as a Painter shape as far as the editability goes. So I always say "Yes" to maintain the editable features of the object.

Transforming a layer or object is a lot cleaner in Photoshop.

It's easier and more accurate to create a path in Illustrator, also for text editing, and then bring it into Painter. Just remember to save it as a legacy Illustrator 3 file, and use file>acquire to bring it into Painter. It gives you a new, very accurate tool to work with.

The point is, in my case anyway, I'm not making any pen paths or selections in either Photoshop or Painter and yet it still gives me this message a lot of the time.

I've used Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter for many years and I'm aware of what paths are, yet I get this message with only a canvas and one pencil sketch layer in Painter with no paths or selections involved. That's why I just click NO and forget it.

Perhaps I should click OK and see what happens. I doubt if it will make any difference since I know there are no paths. I just don't see why Painter says there are paths when there are none. ?????

Painting is the hobby of some people. Without converting the shape we cant make a proper shape. It may be possible in Photoshop.

I use pen paths, and sometimes the shape tool, in Photoshop to make selections, but I never make shapes in Painter. Everything is painted freehand as it would be on a "real" canvas with "real" brushes.

So the question remains - why does Painter ask about converting paths when there are no paths?

I think because Photoshop allows Paths whether there are any or not. Just a thing about Photoshop files. I don't worry about it, just continue as if nothing is amiss and say yes. Must be that great programmer in the sky, or planned in Washington? Who knows, just ignore it and the problem does go away, as if there was no problem to begin with.

    Hey, thanks for the replies.
For some strange reason, that message just stopped showing up after several more times. I didn't do anything different in my response to the message or to the document.

*shrugs, then prays to the Great Programmer in the Sky*
