waaaah! I made a nice long post and then computer crashed
but it came down to this:
- amazing progress with the digitals,
- love love love the last self portrait,
- watch the contrast: you want the highest contrast areas to be in the face with a portrait.
- can I come play the piano with Baorisa some time?(will need to practice some improvisation beforehands though)
big kiss!
Marleen.

I like the treehouse in that magic forest painting. Beautiful sun! Thanks for sharing.
Your portraits are really nice, the focal point use reminds me of Richards Schmidt in a way, though you definitely have your own voice.
Good studies, and post #2 is just outstanding!
I can't believe I haven't bumped into your stuff before - all I can say is Wow. You have a mad talent. I'm just blown away. I have been just zipping through this SB with my jaw open. You have a gift. Skin tones, the way you focus the eyes nose and lips, shading, style... GAH! I'm jealous as hell. Definitely going to be one of my inspiration/motivation SB's! I'll be back! Keep up the great work and can't wait for your next update!
SKETCHBOOK
Daryl Zero: "A few words here about following people. People know they're being followed when they turn around and see someone following them. They can't tell they're being followed if you get there first."
I love the magic forest! Bless you young lady
Noë: tnx for visiting again girl!
Soros: thank you!
Jushra: I don't know Richard Schmidt, I will google him later
mike butkus: thank you so much!
Meticulous: wow.... now you are way too kindThat is very sweet of you to say!
Jason Scanlon: Thanks! Bless you too
Pfieuw... this took me sooo long to upload all these pictures... o_O
I'm very busy lately with the album art of the CD from my band Baorisa.
I'm working with fellow bandmember Kyra. She does the linework of the characters, I can do all the colors and background (which is sooooo much...).
This is the art for the song 'Pandora' I wrote after seeing the movie Avatar.
And this one is for a happy cute song about apples (we sing almost all of our songs in a language we made up ourselfs. For example, this song is titled 'Nos som le Pom' and de chorus is;
Bellu les kije nos som le pur,
ri ai de lu hare bra son fvor.
Har go noh po du er fra harbur.
Song can be partially listened at http://www.baorisa-fairyfolk.com
And this is an oil painting I made at oil painting course (which is almost over now). The assignment was to paint yourself when you were little (from a photo), in sepia (so it looks like an old picture)
This is a WIP oil painting for my little brother, who loves mountainboarding. It's from a photo I took of him couple of months ago.
This is an WIP oil painting from an old picture from my grandma (she was a professional ballerina and had taken some professional pictures with the dancegroup back then)
These are very quick digi's from my desk from life. Colour study mainly.
And a Spring photo I made, and really like(and yes, it's me)

Hey!
So... I finally took the time to upload everything I've done these last months.
It was a really hard time for me, because I had a lot of stress because of my band. I started the band myself, last year december, and I really love making music with the girls. But there was one of them, who had very difficult moodswings everyday, which caused long depressing and agressive emails to us (about what we're doing wrong etc). Very stressfull, because everyone else just wanted to make happy music and have fun
.
Also we made a CD in March, and I was in charge of the digital art for the booklet. Kyra drew the characters, and I had to do everything else (colours, light, layout). I'm pretty proud of it, because they took me several months to finish (because I don't really like the style of the characters, so it was hard for me to adjust).
Edit: the stress part of the band was actually: we were booked for a couple of festivals (3 to be precise) and 3 days before the first one, Meris (the girl with moodswings) decided to quit the band. And because she was our lead singer (she has the most beautiful voice), and we couldn't cancel the gig's.... we had a couple of very bad weeks, haha.
She is now all over the internet, telling everyone that WE kicked HER out of the band, and how bad we are and how bad our music is now, because she left.... really sad
To prove that I think she is wrong: heres a recording from one of our songs at the second festival without her![]()
(thanks to Noë![]()
)
Also: I'm the girl who's talking in the intro, hahaha (for the people who understand dutch: the intro was improvised hahaha)
But Now I've started at a new college in Amsterdam, and I study Psychology and I really have to go now. I don't have that much time anymore to draw... but I will try to keep it up because I've missed it very much.

the music is quite interessting.. sounds very nice. very cool.
really like ur Bacrisa pease, and ur drawing about that oldman in post 368.
Good luck with the bandstress.
hope to see more of u soon.
groeten Rob.
Hi Marlisa!
I really like the update, I think you merged your style with the line drawing style really well, It must have been a hell of a job to fill in all those images, that's so much work! So kudos to you ^^
The way to put a youtube video on here is to put the youtube code (which is "TAAopwU8NYg" in your case) between [yt ] and [/yt ] tags (without the space).
I hope you're doing well, I think the band is going to be really good anyway, and I guess it was just a matter of time before Meris got out of the band (willingly or unwillingly) because it didn't work well between her and the rest.
If you have some time, keep doing little bits of drawingbecause you love to do it and we love to see it!
Good luck with the new study! Hope you enjoy it
Bye! X
Marleen.

So pleased to see your updates! Really good work all round Marlisa!
Really enjoying the traditional stuff, those ink sketches are great! Digitalis have improved a heap yet again! Great that your able to produce such good stuff without reff too
The Portraits in the last post are my fav though, really cool, particularly the self portrait and your grandmothers.
Hope your doing well, looks like your having a heap of fun with the band!
Cheers,
matt
JailHouseRock2: Ahw thank you Matt! You're so kind
I liked doing the ink studies the mostit's so much fun to work with! I really love it
Did a quick digi last hour, and upload it now already because my computer damages the picture-files very often (probably if I turn on my computer tomorrow, I can't open the file anymore -_-')

wow ,u r the super girl here
keep posting sweety
Still life looks good, only thing I can suggest is using more contrast with your brush strokes.
Like it would really help define the screen of the ipod if it was smooth and soft, and the ear buds painted with a harder brush to bring it out from the background.
That's itTake care now
matt
Really awesome sketchbook you've got, I like the diversity in your sketches and the color palette your using. Specially in the booklet for your cd. Also liked the music![]()
Brahimpag: Haha, thanks!
JailHouseRock2: Thnx for the tip! I'll keep that in mind the next time I paint a still lifethanks for your visit!
A_Knight's_Art: ahw thanks so much!
I feel ashamed I didn't upload anything earlier, but... well actually I don't think I should come with any excuse. I'm busy with my school (psychology is really hard!) and because it's not an artschool, I can't find the time to concentrate on anything else the last months.
A month ago, some classmates found out that I have a website for my art, and really liked it. Everyone knows it now, and I fill my breaks at school with drawing classmates from life. There is actually a waiting line hahaha.
I feel very flattered, and I'm very happy that I can draw at school.
Here are some doodlish things I made since october until now.
I'm working on an oilpainting, but I can't find the rest to start with the second layer.

Two of my bandmembers (drawn from ref) in bandoutfit.
I'm helping a classmate/friend with drawing, so we decided to choose a picture from someone (in this case Zooey Deschanel) and put the two drawings together to compare.

Thought I might upload something again.
Since I'm not in artschool anymore, it's hard to find the time to draw enough.
So here's one with good old pencils;
I used a photo I took from Noë a couple of months ago as ref.
Liefs!

wow, your paintings from ref are some of the best i've seen! some of them are downright creepy realistic!
with your stuff from imagination I think you gotta watch your line weight, you tend to use very heavy but un-nuanced outlines around everything and it flattens your images right down. have a look at some pencil drawings from people like mike mattesi (him more than anyone else), frank frazetta, andrew loomis, burne hogarth, etc and look at how they vary their lines to convey tension, weight, force, shading, focal points and a ton of other things.
careful linework can also describe objects as having volumes, as opposed to making them look like a cardboard cutouts standing in the landscape.
hope this helps, keep up the studies!
I love the rendering in the last portrait! Keep on posting pencil pages, please!
i like your drawings marlisa. and i enjoyed watching / listening to your music!
NeonDuck: Wow thanks! I'll keep that in mind in the future!
surus: ahw thanks! Here are some more![]()
JellevdVegt: Hey, thank you! And thanks for the compliment about the music too
Sooooo.... I've been so busy with school lately! I'm studying Applied Psychology and the dark months have been very very rough for me.
When you study psychology, you have to dig into your own mind before going in somebody elses, and since this is applied psychology (we have to work with people starting from the 6th week from the first year, until the last week of the fourth year...), we have to do it quicker than normal (argh my english -_-').
You discover something about yourself -> hate yourself for it -> try to change it and feel good about yourself again.
And then, when you finally regain your confidence, you discover another thing about yourself. Blah. Exhausting.
I love it though, but it's hard to combine with drawing. Everytime I try to draw something, I feel like I should be doing some homework or something.
Here are some thingies, not much but will make up for it in the future:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finished this one (indian ink)
My grandma (the older version from this oil painting )
My brother. I'm going to paint some portraits from familymembers and closest friends. This one and my grandma's I'm using for those oil portraits I think.
Liefs!

Hi,
I saw this one on the wall at my grandmothers kitchen, and was surprised by the date I made this for her when I was only 15.
I think it's one of the best I've made the last couple of years. The picture is quite bad, but I'll make a better one next week.

Inspiring! I'm particularly fond of your portraits, very nice indeed.
I think you're great! Don't give up your art. I really admire ink work (especially the fourth in #376, wonderful light and gesture, and amazing lines) What did you use?
Nice photo too! Is it self timer?pld:
Good work!
