Wow this is a great SB. Your selfportraits are particularly nice (not just because of the model ) For some reason i have the most difficulty with those. Maybe the mistakes are just more noticeable i guess. Subscribed, i look forward to seeing what else you come up with

    hey marlisa,
ah ,no i thought more about the face , your proportions are near to the face of your character in my view
i like your latest studies , especially that you saw the light is blue and that every object needs to be affected with this color ,keep them coming , what i think you could try is to use soft brushes for the background in the digitals ,actually to create more of an atmosphere or depth because the shapes won´t be read , so you would have a contrast between foreground and background.
    Greetings Cera ;P

There is snow here now, which is not a very common thing in holland (because of the relatively 'warm' wind from the sea).
Only the main roads are snow free.

I had to work last night, after that I got on my bike and rode home. The bycicle paths were not snow free, so I went to the road were the cars drive.
It looked very clear, no snow or ice or something.
I thought by myself: watch out, you cannot afford breaking your hand right now'... and I wasn't even done thinking that, or I was lying at the ground.
With a very painful right wrist and elbow
Went to the hospital and they saw something in my wrist and elbow.
Can't move the damn arm anymore, bah.

So here are some drawings from BEFORE I BROKE MY DRAWINGARM

FUCK, that's the worst luck. At least you can still read up in art books and stuff. How long do you think you'll be out for?

Awh! That's awfull news. Guess the snow is more than just very pleasant. Hope you recover soon! Good luck with that. Meanwhile I suggest just learning to draw with your left hand. I mean then you're like really hardcore haha.

Cool sketches btw. Some pretty solid anatomy studies.

JailHouseRock2: hey matt, thank you hope you have a happy new year tomorrow ^^
    PepeDN: thanks so much!

It looks like the best wishes are working, because today I had to cut of the cast (?) in the hospital and replace it by a new one.
They said it looked pretty good and i only have to wait two weeks before this one can be removed.
And; this is fiber cast, so it's more solid and gives more support to my arm.
That means that i can draw again! At least digital, because I still cannot hold a pencil (to small).

So here is a digital portrait of my cousin Anuschka again (when she was 6 or 7). It's still harder to draw, but ok. I'm an addict. Can't stop.

Cerasela; Thank you! I think you are right about the imaginative things, I try to apply that more everytime I start a digi (it's easier for me in digi because you can adjust it easier). I still have difficulties with colours and stuff, so I focus on that part the most in these last ones. How to let the backgroundcolour come back in the shadows or highlights and stuff.
My first intention of this new thing was to make the outfits more fairy-like. Then I had such a hard time making the portraits look like us, and I forgot, haha.

This is what I got so far with the selfportrait of little me. I was at a dead point, so I decided to make the bandthing first and continue this one after that.

I first want to tell something about my band.
We are called Baorisa, and you can find some very crappy not finished songs from us on youtube.
I started it with a very good friend of mine, Jacqueline or Meris (thats her artist name haha). We love music as much as I love drawing and painting, so thats pretty much.
We love nature and our music is about that. Sometimes it sounds fairylike and sometimes more powerfull.
We started december 6 2009, and we all three (the other one is Kyra) have never had music lessons, so we learn the instruments ourselves (that's the excuse for the crappy song on youtube).
I play the bodhrán (thats a drum), low whistle (a flute), piano and sometimes guitar and didgeridoo. I also sing in the backing.

    Here is a song which I'm kinda proud of and is our best one till now (yes we already have made 8 songs or something);

    DULAMAN

I play the bodhrán in this song and sing in the backing (starting at 0 : 1 8 ) .

    Here is a start at a banddigi;

    The reason why I did the background green again, is;

    1. It's my favourite colour
    2. It looks like nature
    3. The layout of the website where it's going to be placed on, is greenish

Jason Scanlon: Yes! Unfortunately I still have the cast so that's why I update with only digitals lately .

My screen is a bit more yellow than other screens. When I saw my last post on another screen, I found the picture a lot more flat than at my own screen.
So I tried to apply more depth by adjusting the shadows in the face. I don't know which one is better; the first or the second one.

Also I saw the movie Avatar last night, and was very caught by it.
I went with two friends, we sat in the same theater but we saw a completely different movie. I couldn't help myself relating to the Na'vi (except for that I'm not running almost naked through the woods, i think there are a lot of resemblances with Na'vi and modern pagans).
I felt pretty awfull afterwards. For my two friends it was just a movie that lies between Pocahontas and Rambo, but for me it was some wakeup call.

And besides that, the graphics were amazing! So I think I make a digi about the Na'vi people too .

Hey Marlisa, greetings from the neighbor-country. Awesome Sketchbook - you really rock with traditional media. Goood that you do so many different techniques. I think it is interesting that the way you use digital is quite similar to your traditional works. In your first post you said, that you broke studying art. Why that? (just give me a link, if you already wrote it - I did not read the whole SB). Keep up the great work!

engelhardt: Hey! Thanks for visiting! I didn't knew that the way I use digitals is similar to my traditional?
I stopped with my Art school, because of the teachers and the very bad education. I've been there for two years, and I've learnt almost nothing about painting. They tell you something and the other day they act like they've never talked to you. That's especially bad when you have assesments and stuff, where you get your grades. But I feel free now I can do whatever I want.

New stuff!! Yes I'm tired now...

So here is what I've got from the Avatar portrait digi thing. Ofcourse it's from ref. I want to get more understanding of texture, that's why I do so many portraits and stuff. I'll do some landscapes later, because I still suck at that.

Wow Marlisa, these are so good!! The portraits are amazing, love the one of your cousin in 313.

The Baorisa banner in looking so cool too, good choice with the green I'd say, and you seem to be getting a pretty good likeness of you and your band mates too!
(and considering the quality of the YouTube videos I've seen, you gal's sound pretty good too, very impressed!!)

Dig the Avatar study too! But as a little tip, I'd suggest you use a soft brush on the background, rather than the same fuzzy brush that you used on the character. Texture is a great way to help define place in depth, and having a softer BG will help bring forward the character.

Wonderful stuff, please keep posting, and I hope your arm's healing well!
    All the best,
    matt

Thanks! You are right about the background I changed it a bit (well, I did it very rough so I guess it's not getting better haha)

I can't believe you saw the youtube video's, and said you liked them XD
We're thinking of deleting them from youtube because we hate them so much.
Meris and I are perfectionists and think it could be waaaaaaaaay better than this... but anyway thanks for the compliment!

I have some bad luck lately. I don't feel very well because a very good friend of mine has hurt me and I can't put it aside.

My brother took me with him mountainboarding (and a friend of his, Nicky G) and I shot some photo's for them.
Afterwards, i felt like drawing some of them with fineliner, so I did. I'm planning to do some more, but I have no time today so I thought I'd upload them already.
First time traditional drawing for me, since the cast has been cut of my arm.

This one I made after I felt really horrible again about the friend thing.
The words are in Danish, they are pretty poetic and tell about how dark it feels right now, how i want light to shine and hope fill my mind (pretty emo... )

Jeg har syndet is another handwriting, or it supposed to be different, and that means ' I have sinned ' and is what the friend would say.

I'm also doing an oilpaint course right now, I've had two lessons in which we learnt about what oilpaint does when you add medium to make it thinner.
We had to make a piece with trees and then make some things to use as background for later stuff. We just had to experiment with the paint.

I'm suprised how bright the colours are with oil paint, and how thin you can paint with it, because that's not often used that way.
