Some Sketchbook (PLEASE COMMENT!!!)

Hi all, i'm a begginer artist and i was wondering what were your opnions about some sketches i made, and will make from now on, so here are the first two!
Great to be here,i was viewing the site for a while, great job all! and i'm sure this will serve of some kind of motivation to go on!

First of all it's good to see you want to improve.
I would suggest to take a look at this site:

There are some links about Anatomy there such as Loomis or you can find a list of Loomis books here.

There's another topic here on the forums, which can be found here
(http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94571) can be handy. But I suggest you start with the Loomis books. Post your progress here and I'll try to give some comments then

i only have one critique: keep an eye on your proportions. it's great to see you starting with studies first. learning basics will definitely help you improve in no time

these wooden figures don't teach you much, really. better try sketching (not detailed drawing) from real people or photos

Good start, to re-itterate what deadred said earlier in ur SB jus carry on learning the basics of anatomy and you'll be able to apply it to other things in no time. You're certainly doing the right thing so stick at it

i disagree. i think he should be working on forms and values of less complex structures before moving to something as complex as anatomy

All in all, good start, keep drawing, keep on studying and you'll start to see the differences.

WELL I SAY..

have fun =D
but be loose, you look very tense in your lines. be loose and confident! you cannot go wrong in art!

your torsos look very elongated, and your head are short + pointy 'anime' chins, just keep an eye out on those proportions, maybe even try drawing with your paper and subject upside-down! once or twice!

First off, you might want to look at your proportions. It really helps when drawing figures. And some anatomy practice might be a good idea, too.

Hi guys thanks, for all the comments i really aprecciate it.

With some things in mind i started to do some gesture studies, to begin by the most basic and difficult thing that is gesture.
Here are some holiday sketches at the beach (sketches from life) and some studies! Enjoy! (i do hate when i'm drawing someone and they stare at us like i was a freak!)

Good work on the figures.

I'll recommend you to this link: http://www.archive.org/details/const...anat00briduoft - It'll begin with the arms or hands and expand to all the body etc. I used this just to get a rough idea on arms, hands, joints, how everything works etc.

You're on the right track.

olha acho que aquela mensagem que te mandei no outro dia soou de maneira que não devia. Eu não estava, de maneira alguma a dizer que não te esforças quado desenhas. So estava a dizer que essas coisas dos diarios graficos em conjunto não costumam ser levadas muito asserio ao fim ao cabo.

anyway, força nisso. aconselhava-te a fazeres estudos mais longos, se tiveres tablet aconselhava-te usares o PS porque assim podes corrigir infinitamente aquilo que vais fazendo, ao contrario do metodo tradicional, que não te deixa fazer estudos muito prolongados.

watch those proportions. you have a tendency to make the rectus abdominus muscles very propmenant and too long thus pushing the entire length of teh torso to weird lengths.

on this last page of faces I know the eyes a re the windows of hte soul. but you have em huge
thake another good look at facial proprtions. Im sure you have some basic ref material that will show you the egg and the 3/5th rule and stuff
might be a good idea to do soe skull studies.. so you actually know whats under there, and how its attached to the neck and stuff.

Studies are alway good, especially if you have fun with doing them. So keep on doing them and really care about linework and proportions.

But also make some stuff from mind to push your creativity and actually see what you have learned by now. That will show best where your weakest points are.

Hello there!

That is some very nice stuff you've got there

IMO, These crits you've got are very good. I'm more intrested in how you shade, I haven't really seen so mutch of you're actual shading technique, but do keep in mind that you use crossed lines. (Like I've said to another before)

But keep in mind that the shading sort of ... "follows" the conture of the actual object!

PS. No need to rush with the shading, first make the porportions work!

Hm I have to agree with most people in here, you need to work on your proportions, both in faces and in the rest of the anatomy. However, you might find it easier to work on this with some more specific studies.

What I noticed in most of your studies is that you try to cover it all in one go. In itself this is not a bad thing to do, but you end up with multiple issues you need to keep an eye on while you do these studies, which might complicated them more than you'd want to. For example, you have a tendency to add the abdominal muscles in almost every study you do. In most of these, you end up with focussing on those too much and you seem to forget about the overall proportion of the torso. The same happens if you try to draw every single muscle but run into problems keeping the proportions in range. It might help you to think of more specific studies, like practising proportions in one study while doing the bones of the human body in another.

Hope it helps, keep doing the studies as they will pay off

There is improvement in this. I'm gonna pretend i'm a treehugger and say: your pages are still too white. You can fill up a lot more in there before you use a new one! You seem a bit scared of your page. Are you using Loomis? He's got a pretty sane way of explaining the human body. Loomis has several books out, so be sure to check them all. Vilppu is also good.

I have to agree about the creativity thing. What is it you draw you enjoy? So far these are studies, obligatory ones kinda. Where are your superheroes? It doesn't show you are having fun while doing the studies. Fun is very important when drawing and that's what keeps you motivated to do the studies. These studies say very little about you.

Use referencephotos too. Pornchicks, boybandsingers, grandpa... all can be used into portraits or full figure practices. You will learn from this, without it being a drag.

Also, update more often.

HEy ruivo, welcome to CA. youll get all the information and inspiration to make yourself a better artist.
first off, its good your doing technical poses, but there are more to the human form than a mannequin.
second, ease on the pencil weight, lighter lines for a ghost image, then darken for better contrast. hope this helps you out in some way, best of luck.
