work in progress for Eow..
Two first thumbs look the most interesting for me. First one looks like a smaller shot and the second like a wide panoramic shot of a whole valley - but they both have something eyecatching in them.
But I see that you started to work the third one out - and the bigger version of that one looks great too. Black spot in the middle doesn't look that good - but I understand that its still a WIP and youl put something there.

Totally agreed with thirdeye!
Yeah you guys are right. i was thinking about doing the valley initially..
kinda happy with it, kinda not..still could use some work.. (need to get better at architecture..)

yeah i know nothing about architecture but something doesn't feel quite right about that entrance area where the light is shining through.... you've got all these dramatic verticals everywhere and then BLAM a big square... maybe there should be something interesting at the top of that most forward section.. something to desimplify that flat horizontal that just allows the eye to move on to the background..... i'm just throwing out my two cents here... i'm totally being nitpicky cause all i do is compliment people on here and don't feel very useful.. despite all i said, it still looks great![]()
o yeah, thx! needs like a gargoyle or a character there maybe..
heres a from study today
sketchbook cover.. sketchbook stuff + moleskine
haha, i have that same "We dare you to watch" sticker on my sketchbook as well!
Absolutely love the supernatural warrior as well, his eyes are haunting! I hope to see that guy worked on some more, great idea!

thanks
had some fun tonight starting up some life drawing againg.. gesture pages..
and practicing girl portraits from imagination... needs alot of work haha..
Wow! nice progress in this thread man!
Here is an oil self portrait from today. not the best likeness, i think i didnt focus hard enough on the drawing/painting of the correct facial features.. making myself look too generic...
nice sketchbook you have man! really digging the oils.

i agree with you on the self portrait, it's tough to look at what you see and make your brain shut off it's memory of what a generic face looks like. i can tell it's you.. but it's not YOU you.. and i've seen better, more accurate selfportraits of you to knowat least you're doing it though.. you have something to compare to at the end of this summer of painting
thanks for the comments,
went to the school to draw skeletons, here is a sketch of the frog skeleton.. afterwards, as i was walking home i saw a frog on the sidewalk. He made for a great model and waited until i was done drawing him.. you can see above the skeleton i started from a distance then realized he wasnt scared of me and got in closer.
more girl from imagination.. kinda crude and unfinished in spots..

jesus man! really brilliant work in here, i love the brushwork
http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1242959114 especially the one on the right
thanks dished!
some more ink, girl from imagination, and oils.
Looking good Joel, those environments are improving a lot, the last one was very nice and moody.
Girls are getting better too, just watch your proportions, last one especially has a gigantic head
Model painting is painted pretty good, the skintone is bugging me, its too acidic and unnatural looking. Environment isnt doing it for me either, but i think thats because the figure is lit with artificial light and the environment is lit with natural light, so they contrast each other too much.
The skull looks great, very nice handling of the medium.
spot on crits nik! thanks!

a portrait session from today.. the only decent sketches i did at dr. sketchys last night... and a personal piece im going to water color/gouache soon.
more to come..
man you got some good stuff in here. post #27 i liked the old on armed guy. post 31 hulk with the book on his head is cool.
I liked the portrait study in your last post.
I have three(3) words for you to improve
-1\draw
-2\erase
-3\re-draw
Your tradiotnal stuff is way better than lots of your digital stuff may be you are not taking the advantage of epic magic potion "undo". I personally think you don't erase whats wrongly drawn. reject your wrong stokes, that's really important. do some more cloths rendering, study wrinkles on the fabrics. your stuff bit lack these fold which adds tremendous flavor.
Good luck
----->this thread must be rated so i rated it 4 stars.
I like the skintones on the model, but i dont think the edges work very well, theyre uncoordinated and messy, and not really related to the form itself, which flattens it out a bit i think, on top of being a profile.
Dr Sketchy's drawings look nice, I like the treatment of lines and the simplification of the faces. Maybe try combining solid blacks with the hatching rather than just hatching over all the darks? it creates a lot more visual noise than it needs to imo.
Deformed-head portrait looks awesome, i love the expression of the hands. Only crit i have is that his shoulders are super narrow compared to the rest of him, makes him look very very lanky and awkward
I really like your oils. Nice!
<_< >_> -----> Sketchbook
goddamn you're getting good! this is crazy sick! The juicy oils, the speedy digitalis, the oils! you're nailing it!
i'd like to see some of the ink work done as neat and professional as possible...maybe in a 11x14 on vellum or something like that...really all of this stuff is so loose and feels so alive, it's great and refreshing to see it all! keep going!
sorry... asspats only this time around, j

sony- gotta double check those marks! thanks
nik- thanks for the crits
redsquirrel- thanks!
goog - thanks man, thats something i haven't tried in a while, a finished ink piece.. good idea
havent touched watercolor in a long time so heres a small warm up before i start that other piece.. turned out a little muddy..
seems like things get a little desaturated after attaching..(excuses, excuses)
