Plissken: It's nice to have people who understand our inner feelings and have a similar view of life at some points...

Not much today... I woke up, took walks, baked some pancakes, looked at some Madoka pictures my crazy fanboi BF totally wished to show me... and voila, it's night again. Well, it's my time and hopefully I will do something in the next hours.
I drew these yesterday or before:

It's my second Jackie copy, much better than the first one I never put here and still no good

The goat was a fun one, lured to us with a cheap trick, strong colorful lights of a cell phone... Mmm... It happened a few years ago.

wow this is really excellent practice all round hitting all the areas - it's very nice to see an anime artist practice academic methods etc I think it will enhance your stylised work. keep it all up, be great watching you progress!

Sweeet, sweeet little goat. I want to touch his head a bit.
Can I? We should put him on a bread with some butter.
Your pencils are great, and the eye drawings are improving for sure.
Best drawn eye from you could be that one at the right upper edge
on the paper. Is that in the bottom right Michael Jackson?
That face is also so sweet, especially his nose features.
You did once more an excellent job, and we can now return to the
base. I am leaving satisfied and with a hearth full of warmth.

What I like about your chibi paintings that color is so solid, and edges are so clean. You should do more of these little pieces. The amount of studies, and sketches you uploading is impressive, but even more impressive would be seeing more colored stuff Draw, paint and have fun. I'm looking forward to see your next update

Replies, lousy ones I guess, I'm in a baaad shape, I have a bad headache and mood... I'm glad I have no idea what migraine is but this simple headache is troublesome enough, it's not just pain, I can't focus or think properly... I'm in the house all day and it's very bad for me after the whole long winter when I wasn't out too often either (I need hours outside a day, normally). Spring arrived then left! It's chilly again, with rain And I slept too much and in such cases I get a stubborn headache. I don't even have painkiller pills, I don't really like them and coffee is too weak in such cases Damn, I will search for some spice in the kitchen, Nature is wonderful...
I almost catched a cold too... Me... (Slight odd feeling in my throat. Onion soup fixed me, it always does. And it's yummy too...) I'm in a very bad shape, despite of all lemon and leeks and whatnot. I need fresh fruits and vegetables, sunshine, nice weather, warmth!
I'm lazy too of course. The worst thing of all.

AlexTooth: {chaotic reply, beware} FYI, there are a few names one shouldn't call me. "Database programmer" or "anime artist"...
Btw, my jorney on this wonderful site started when I accidentally bumped into someone's sb and that artist said at a point in a reply: "your mom has anime eyes". I just remembered it

No, I never was an anime artist. I'm not even an artist yet
To become an anime artist, one must be damn familiar with anatomy and whatnot.

I... don't even know what's my goal. I just wanna have fun I guess. Realism and many stylized approach makes me feel warm and fluffy inside

You don't know me yet but I'm the type who can't help but argue with replies Not always though.
Hitting all areas? No. I mostly draw heads I did this and that during the years but I feel the lack of drawing bodies, enviros, clothes - and real pictures with composition, lighting and whatnot.

Oh and I have serious time problems and I don't really wish to sit in front of the computer too much but I will return the visit, of course. But your SB is long, it will take time.

Plissken: No, that's some doodle. Not even similar to Jacko. Maybe you became confused because I mentioned Jackie (Oneill Kennedy)? I copied her caricature by Tom Richmond, biggest one.
I understand your feelings about the goat, but as far as I remember, it was a mature female one. You shouldn't just go and eat a goat lady, she's for producing milk and little goats.

    Naidy: Thanks!
OMG... I didn't know much about rating, I wonder if a one star from me would make a difference... Whatever...
Some people were quite sill... erm, enthusiastic here.
I did nothing good and interesting yet. I have some copying skills and some knowledge about faces but it's not so much. I still feel I didn't even start but i have a few good points. I really should do my best. It would be something. I collected some cool, bright and shiny pieces, I should build something from them.

Ramalooke: Hm... Painting is a lot of fun when I'm in the right mood... But it makes things much harder. Especially if it's human skin. I studied skin coloring much and I'm still lost... I have a bad habit of avoiding stuff I never really figured out. Except if I'm in a good brave shape but it's too rare lately. Whatever, I can't even think now, my head is killing me... I plan to focus on gestures now (I practically never draw figures. sometimes for spartan camp, but that's copy without a really good attitude. I see, I analyze, I understand more or less... but because of copying, I don't learn my stuff. It's like when I was a kid, I almost never could learn school stuff if I just read it. I had to write it down myself)
But I started to use PS again, there are some colored stuff too.

I call this An Update of Fail and Usual Boring Stuff.
I don't feel well lately and it stops me from doing anything outside of the very core of my safety zone. And that happens rarely too.

I didn't show the worst version of Reisen (the bunny girl) when her eyes were too big or far from her nose or something. She looked like a freak, not like the other two would be good. She's supposed to be CUTE even if I tried to draw her showing her lunacy-inducing eyes when I started to paint.

Btw... it's strange... I was never really happy with my lines but I have some standable line quality when I'm in the right mood to make my strokes quick enough. I know someone who has been drawing all his life, and extremely lot. His figures aren't bad sometimes but his lines are very uncertain and messy. Is this possible? You draw extremely lot for many years and your lines are still low quality...?
I have a feeling that I would improve really much if I practiced the right things. My programmer self does its best, I analyze my situation, I see my good and bad points, I know what I should do...
And then I don't do that. And I lack motivation, mood, patience or something else for most of the time. And I can't give those to me. I'm 9/10 of 10 in some areas and 0-1 of ten in others... I feel extremely unbalanced.
I never did anything that was just 1/100th that difficult in my life. A diplom, maths contests, a programmer's job, they all were so damn easy compared to drawing. Maybe I'm not cut for this, but I can't help it, I'm too attracted to the idea of becoming an artist one day, even if I usually don't feel the desire to draw, I have no idea what the hell wish I do with the skills I get and what knowledge/skills do I need the first place... The ones I feel fascinating I guess... Though I'm a bit greedy, I like realism, semi-realism, stylization of many kind and I want to be able to draw, like, anything that organic. And a few objects as well.
I don't think not having a definite goal is a problem I like it this way.

I'll do my best to update again soon. And I'd love to write less though these were my important thoughts, mostly.

Interesting update, it shows your focus on human eyes,
and it shows that if you really focus on something, you can
master it, all you need is a good will. Talking negative and thinking
negative will only bring you down and make you feel low. Instead
of war, say peace. Instead of hate say love. Say one time death,
and then say ten times life. Do it. Do it right now, or Jack Palance
will eat your pancakes and throw up on your Persian carpet.
This Reisen girl makes me feel so happy and hot. I feel like an umbrella
in a snowy cold day. Her eYes are so red and bloody hot. She is starting
to mutate. Her internal organs are changing to a rabbit kind, she starts
to emit strange noises, she starts to sweat and smell. The neighbors are
being awaken and dancing in circles with shotguns in the living room.
They are waiting for a Nazi disturbance in the middle of the night.
But before that, they will visit Reisen. They will visit her with shotguns
and pitchforks. They heard that she is shifting to her rabbit shape and
they want to prevent that phase. There will be blood and guts. Even the
females will contribute to her castration. The story will continue for sure
but it is too brutal and violent.
I just want to say that I am delighted that you updated and that
you shared this magic stuff with us. I feel so relaxed now.
    Thank you.

Plissken: I love faces most, especially the eyes. Still, I can't draw them as well as I wished to. I just leveled up though... But I should practice special angles, expressions...

    wunts:
Yeah, it shows some skills, but it isn't cute and at some point I even messed up the proportions... I redrew her, with lines but sometimes I can't avoid that (I wish to learn to paint with shapes from the very start):

I think her new mouth is good for a moon bunny girl.

Messy, messy stuff for spartan camp... I'm in my exhibitionist and pencil period, so I show every crappy stuff. I skip only most of the anime copies and the usual skulls, front view and profile view men drawings. Some texts copied from Spartan Camp, it's almost 3 already, I want to get over with it...

I had no patience, this is my lazy quick quality.

I took my own very old advice in the end and started to learn to draw a single gesture. It's somewhat simple, a standing man in 3/4 view, well, a sexy contrapost in front view is zillion times easier But I think it will be useful to do it till I can draw it. Mostly by myself, only depending on the reference in my memory (not a great place to store gestures, mind you). Don't worry, I won't put all here, but I wished to show where I started. And of course, I will show the interesting ones or where I feel I leveled up or something.

    I had fun with these:

A quick lazy Spartan Camp optional. Oh hi attachment manager, I try to avoid you but there are things that has some vague things to do with nipples and genitals, so photobucket is out of question.

First of all thanks for commenting on my SB, it's always nice to get encouraging words. The main reason I decided to start my own sketchbook was to keep motivated as I trudge through the hard parts of learning art, and getting encouragement from someone that has been working hard for years is incredible.

I have been lurking in your SB for quite a few months and I have gone over the first few pages several times. If you were to put some of your first images next to your current work, the level of improvement is incredible. That being said there is always room for betterment, right?

I am also struggling with two of the problems you mention: Line quality and getting into painting with shapes as opposed to lines. In my opinion professional artists like Crimson daggers or Idrawgirls make it look much easier than it is.
However, I don't think even pros manage to draw perfectly clean lines, unless they go very slow and make a conscious effort to do so. See this video on how slow Dave Rapoza goes about drawing anatomy. I guess the lesson is: set up construction lines very faintly, then build strong, determined lines on top and take your time with every line. I know this one artist who takes about an hour to draw each part of the body (like a foot), but in the end his work looks incredible. He always builds his strong contours on top of very sketchy lines that look like a 2 year old's drawing, but have a lot of motion, kinda like sculpting with lines if that makes any sense.

As for learning to paint with shapes as opposed to lines, I feel like learning a lot about value is the way to go...although looking in your SB back a few pages you have some awesome still life paintings ( the metal ones look particularly good as do the chocolates) Try setting up a still life and paint everything including the shadows and surroundings. Something like this It helps seeing shadows as well as interactions of light on more than one object.

If this whole ramble is TL: DR basically I'm saying you should just keep practicing

P.S. Love the page of little dudes dancing... will have to try that this evening and upload my results

    Hello, hello,
I just want to note you that I have viewed your
latest drawings, and I have to realize that you just
never stop to improve. I am so much delighted about
that. You remember that you said that you drew thousand
and thousand figures? You see, it is definitely paying off
and you have started to get the right idea, judging from
these last figures, the penciled ones. However watch
out about the spine position and erection, cause they
look a bit hunched. Nothing serious I guess. More practice
will fix these little flaws. That's it for now, you are doing great
you are motivated, so what else do you need besides all that.
Keep up making us happy with your creativity and beautiful
    drawings.

I'm not in a mood to reply now, sorry... later, okay?

    {psychiatric session post again, no need to read/comment/anything}
I'm seriously STUCK right now... I guess I'm livelier than before and now I really wish to run and fly and whatnot, instead of doing nothing.
Something is very very wrong. Drawing interests me, I love to look at pictures, I analyze things, read tutorials and books, I love to criticize in Critique Center... I just feel an extremely huge force than keeps me from actual drawing. I don't understand why.
    I wanna scream now.
I know what I should practice, but I can't force myself at all. And I feel no desire to draw, as almost always. I'm happy to read and see and analyze but drawing is different. I managed to break some little walls and make more or less cowardly steps but then this "no drawing even if I have plenty of time" returns.
Some things helps for a little while but never for long.
Whatever. It's my own problem and no one else can solves it for me. Too bad I suck at it too. But now I will give my all, I have less obstacles than ever now. I think.
It's so insane, why can't I sit down and copy something (Bridgman is always nice, or a master study or anything) even if I have no own ideas? I keep myself doing so at an even more basic level...

So, I drew nothing in the last days, before that I did these. Nothing good or anything but lookie I tried to draw expressions! Why didn't I do it before I have no idea. I always knew I need to do this.

    Niiiiiice,
    very niiiiiiiiice.
Your realistic face drawings are improving and you
are evolving slowly. We did the same thing in the study
group, had face expressions as an assignment.
Now you could try to mix in some perspective studies,
cause that is what we did this week. But I realize that
you found some great fun in face drawings, so you just
need to stick doing them for some more.
After all, we should do art
for fun in a first place.
Draw something that you enjoy drawing.

Moar colour ;o! But seriously. You are doing tons of gestures, maybe it’s time to try to apply acquired knowledge in more serious painting ? I think that you are not learning much, by doing only rough sketches.

    dracken: Thank you very much
But I don't want to play with my lines for long... Actually, I can't. I almost always draw my lines so damn hard... I can't get rid of it Digitally, I can fade them, though. But I'll try things
Yeah, my objects... Shapes were so natural when I drew them. It's so totally different with figures.

Plissken: Yeah, I draw expressions not like I realized I must (I did that very long ago, I have a long todo list I always ignore) but because I saw them in your topic and felt competitive a bit. Not necessarily the "I can do better" feeling but "me too, me too". I'm childish I know.
I tried to draw a figure in perspective as well. It failed and I lost interest. I work like that, I don't like it either.
I keep perspective in mind when I draw faces in 3/4 view by the way.
What I wish to draw? It's nothing lately. I should try to draw some faces with a good expression/atmosphere... That would help me... Hmm...

    Ramalooke:
My base problem is I don't draw.
I definitely won't do any serious in the near future.
And I need sketchier stuff, I wrote that so many times already. Especially gesture studies, very very quick ones, a lot of them. I even forget about faces if I must but I need to learn to draw figures.
I won't do anything till I don't learn something about the basics anyway.
I know I should go on a hiatus, maybe for years, but I won't. Everyone should deal with it.

    Spartan Camp deadline again.
I'm not in shape at all.

That's my newest and favourite mug. It has the same colors as my motorbike

I used some of my brushes here but I'm not confident with them at all... Well usually a few simple hard brushes do the work but I wish to draw enviros at some point and other brushes can be quite useful... I wish to show more about objects too... Fluffyness, for example, and other things a simple card reader can't have

Some half assed glass study... I don't quite understand glass, I guess it won't change, reflexion goes crazy there, but I do wish to learn to draw glasses believable. I dunno what can copy helps but it's better to do it than nothing I'm sure. But I don't really care how they look like, I want to learn, not to produce something nice. In my case, the two are often contradictory.

I'm warmed up, yay! I won't go to bed early, I don't waste this chance. After some sleep I will revert back - unless maybe if I draw really much.

    Sweeeeet apocalyptic oily slippers!
    You did it again.
You have pulled out once more some beautiful studies.
I was so ashamed of myself today because of something, most
probably it is because I felt that you were going to do some hot
update. I was watering my freshly planted Romanian carrots today
outside and there was a strange feeling, a shivering kind of sensation.
My heart was in sudden pain for a moment, and I lost my breath.
Those pencil poses are improving for sure, I was just so happy to view
    them over and over again.
And the mug. The Mug is great, your favorite mug. It is not your favorite
for nothing. That is a mug that is made for be someones favorite, I can
see it in its eyes. You painted it so beautiful.
The card reader is fantastic also, I do not know what to say.
Perhaps I should warn you about those card readers, cause in my
neighborhood an elder woman died instantly from that device.
She got electrocuted and burnt to crisps in a brutal fashion.
I was terrified hearing that story. There was in the newspaper.
It was written that the memory card somehow managed to generate
about around 2000 Volts. Her grandson found her in a terrified crispy
shape, they never recognized her again. Anyway, it is a really good
job on that card reader painting.
I was once trying to understand glass. But I never managed to do it.
I was sitting for hours and was trying to understand it. I was saying in
myself, repeating; 'GlaSS!! I will understand you!!!'
But it did not helped me. I was repeating that each evening before bedtime,
and with no results. But I promise now, I promise to you and to everyone
who reads these lines, that I WILL understand glass one day. And you could
too if you try hard enough.
Thank you very much for this beautiful update. I will
    catch you later around. Cheers.

Hey there! Been a looooong time! Things certainly seem to be going well for you though.

Some crits: You know this already, but more gesture studies! Try focusing on only part of the gesture from time to time as well. Heck, devote a whole page to hand gestures or something!

Your edges: These kick my butt too, but doing painting studies will go a long way. When you aren't using lines, edges are one of the clear indicators of a polished work (when going for realism, at least)

Your sketches look great (especially the characatures) But don't neglect hair studies. I see a lot of scalping victims up there!
Warning! Drinking lots of beer can impair your senses. Please do so before you view my sketchbook!

Plissken: Don't do this to me. My mouth is aching because poor thing was forced to be in an extremely wide smiley position and it's quite stressful (and I'm totally serious here)...
I can never know the extent of your seriousness but thanks
As for me, doing these studies felt so good, I missed doing those already.

Nadesican: You're perfectly right... I neglect almost everything I should do. Being stuck into some bad mood/habit is horrible, I really must get out of it!

Hey people I was so much better today, yay! Well my active time is evening but I already did a bunch of stuff today... Most of it is in a very wip state, I can't show them. Some goblinoid family, my favourite perspective study: square tiles on the floor (oh it's tiresome and all I get just some tiles but I like them ), weasels (from yesterday), they will come later.

Now some traditional stuff. Pencil and watercolor. My cheap brushes are problematic, but still, in the end I painted my best little watercolor painting ever (well I barely ever used watercolor but still ). I forgot about poor guy's ears though

I drew more of those creatures, the first ones weren't good but they are getting better... A few sketch more and it's time to do some more serious painting, a colored portrait would be great.

Oh and a very quick apple. I rarely draw apple but I buy so beautiful ones lately and today I'm not the usual "oh not that" person anyway! (It's small because I didn't like it enough to save it in its original size. It's very sketchy anyway but that's not a problem)

Maybe I will post something else tonight

ezekrialase: Not yet, I so tly plan to draw enviros but somehow I never do...

Plissken: The original looked better btw. Next time I will be more careful when I shot my watercolor painting. I bought some new brushes, better ones I'm sure. I plan to paint something in the near future

I'm kinda busy this week... Still, I should draw more but my mind is full with a huge project, I want an own house but it doesn't only require money (and I have too little, it makes things much more difficult), but extremely much effort and it's hard (like, impossible) to get out of my mind in the evening...
Only a little thing, some pencil drawings and a painting of my favourite pencil goblin I put here before.

It is a good feeling, when I see you holding
up your positive flag. Drawing, updating and all that.
But I am sure that you went to a bike ride today,
I saw the position of the sun, and I felt the heat,
and I was sure in that moment that you went to ride.
Jack Palance was at my house today again, and we
had a few beers, now I am feeling a bit dizzy, and
soon the milk Goblins will visit me I am sure, and
that is why I have to go.

    hi people!
    Thanks for your comments

Plissken: I never won't let me to be consumed by the illusiotic thought I ever will be able to reach your level at posting but it's not a sad thing. I'm happy I can read your posts and I'm equally honored to get frequent visits from you

oma: I don't like them, I wish to do epic, expressive and anatomically right gestures but for now I'm happy if I can bring myself to do what I can

Ramalooke: Well I will try don't skip much time, I like the feeling when I'm warmed up and painting is fun

Star Eater: Oh I just am very immature and childish When a hedonist gets older, he/she may realize life is happier this way Thanks

Just a little stuff for now.
My usual "I'm so honest and show my crappy pencil stuff" (but I have much more even crappier pencil stuff I practically never draw, when do I these... well I'm very quick at messy pencilwork)... Some hands and feet are real life drawings...

...and my future spartan camp optional, lying figure. It's a Lingner oldmaster copy, I'm extremely confused with the skin coloring as always, I should be more serious and mix colors like crazy, that's kinda fun but takes a lot of time and I still don't know where to put which. Now I just copied It took more than one hour this far, because of the skin I had to redrawn a few times till I started to get a hand of it. The face were very slow as well, I don't know why I can't draw faces when I draw a full body... Well maybe I should use a higher resolution than this... I usually do...

    {oops I totally forgot it's way too harmful in opinion of photobucket mods...Now it's attached. It's database error to me... I give up for now, it's just a wip.}

I should finish my Bougureau master studies I started long ago...

I use way too many ...-s, whatever it's called.

    EDIT: I forgot these:

And I did some quick lame MadokaxFringe fanfic thumbnail pictures. My boyfriend, Alvaro is writing a fanfic, it's in Hungarian only at the moment. So... I have two tiny not so great pictures on devArt now (I won't make an account there I guess, CA -> devArt doesn't seem a nice evolution and I would be really pissed off if someone would comment 'awesome' on something I dislike but put there. I'd show them what harsh criticism means and it would ruin the cute sugary mood. I know there are great parts of devArt but I saw some really weak stuff with VERY sugary comments not long ago and now I'm more sensitive than usual)
Totally Puella Magi Madoka Magica referenced. Their value is in the fact I actually did them
The fanfic has 4 chapters this far, I didn't started the first thumbnail and the second one is a girl so I will take my time on it. Clothes and lighting... OMG.

You have pushed some green jelly fluid material into the steam pipes
with your creativity. I told you, I told you that you have to be careful
with your powerful spell power not to enchant some innocent little half
baked hairy geek-ish boy. Your pencil drawings has started to change
some laws in the Chinese geometry. You have some strong foundation,
I can feel it. Everything says that your improvement is based on your astral
involvement with the night sky and the stars. Those legs studies are just
awesome, even David Hasselhoff would be envious on those masterpieces.
A few more hundred and you will be a hyper extensive mega machine.
In one word, you just made this spring much more prettier than it is now.
That digital painting with the naked female is outstanding, a little bit
of a bigger head than it should be, but other than that it is so nice, I
can see in her eyes that she ate some Mongolian lettuce, and then she
drank some Red Wine. Keep up with these exercises and you cannot miss
the great door of success. Hope that you will post pretty soon more drawings,
and that you will be active again. We will be more active than the
Zebra is in its mating season.
Keep on working hard, and be aware of the full moon.

Plissken: I have no words reading your post, you said everything!

Yay, attachments work again! But I'm too lazy to use them now. FTP is the best, the least amount of clicks and thinking. I never tag anything anyway.

My tiny Lingner master study (my ref is too small and blurry too, I won't put it too much effort, I don't consider it a really serious one) after 3 hours:

    And some sillyness and whatnot:

I'm still kinda inactive but master copies help a lot, they help me to warm up quickly And they are fun as well.

Oh a part of my future fanfic chapter 2 thumbnail and bigger illustration as well... I will need to use a higher resolution, I can't draw heads in lowres. It's one of my problems with the Lingner study too. But I'm incompatible with the old masters's female faces in general. I draw faces differently or something.

Oh so totally wip and I walk steadily in my usual "detailed shaded realistic face with some half assed unskilled body" direction. I try to do something about it.

Very good job on that cartoon characters,
and on the gestures. You are a hyper super
mega improving machine. You should have come
to our study group. It is still not too late.
We did cartoon characters just an assignment
ago, you would fit in there perfectly, and you
    would improve even more...
    I will perform something on you now;

Plissken: Twirly is nice but I'm a hard-willed one, such tricks don't work on me!
But it's almost impossible to resist if I see something pretty and shiny.

    Hmmm a few pictures.

I better not comment this. I already showed Homura-chan's face but I'm pretty unpleasant with everything else. But I tried at least. It will be a thumbnail for Alvaro's fanfic. Too bad this face becomes too bad in 150 pixels, you know, resize sometimes makes things wrong. I should work on eyes more to prevent it, I'm not totally pleased with them anyway.

I think I won't work more on my Lingner copy and next time I will chose a good, high resolution reference
I don't like the face, I worked on it a lot though, trying to make it similar to the original It's too small and too oldmaster-type face, those are harder to me
I spent... about 4.5 hours on it total...? In the end I used my brand new brush
(I resized the picture to 200%, worked on it, 75% and saved this pic)

Things I put into Spartan Camp:

Yay for 20th page, it's time to get serious!
Today I'm in a very bad shape, my night was really bad, especially waking up from my dream realizing reality is even more worse, my Mom is gone... I still not over the shock, I wish to move from here, this place just make everything worse.
So, I have a mind state I can just copy. So I may work on my Bougureau master study I abandoned months ago!
