    Thomas's sketchbook (Updated May 17)

Hey all - I'm a ca noob. Several people repeatedly tell me I should make a thread here, so now I give in and try it Would be cool if I can get some crits about my work.
I gonna start with posting some of the junk that I haven't shown off anywhere yet (except on my own webpage).

First some pages from my actual sketchbook:

This is btw a most notorious forums member

and to round it a bit up with some color: a WIP oilpainting - crits welcome.

Wow - zero replies! What a nice start
But I'll stick to it, at least for a while.

So here some paintings I did in Venice actually at the end of last year, but didnt post anywhere yet.

... the following house 100 years earlier.

    A lil Sunday-afternoon-oilpainting.

And a recent training pic, after a photo.
Hmm, those attachements dont work so nice, do they?

Looking at your first sketches - there is a definite style there, your style, which is fantastic! I think you do much practice (your..watercolours, are they?), which is also great. In fact, it is even better than great! Thirdly, as it were, you are a pretty good painter at that and in several images I can see a lot of skill that you've displayed.

What can I say..! Not much to crit at all. Your wonderfully coloured lady had been drawn quite well, but I would possibly practice shape and depth. She is pretty, but does not 'pop out' of the picture. Same with the peppers, actually. Although both pictures had been drawn extremely well.

    Please, continue!!

Your sketchbook has some great compositions in it, - really tight. The Venice paintings are very atmospheric and again good composition. More please.

Jansi: Thanks a lot for your motivating words. I'll keep your points in mind - I agree - depth especially is something I will have to put more thought in.

Black Spot: Thank you very much too

I've scanned a bunch of life drawings yesterday:

Thanks for the nice feedback - glad you like the stuff.

Some new watercolors from my visit to Gotland (Sweden) last week - I think I'll soon scan my small sketchbook with more from there. Awesome place.

I sincerely hope you scan as many of these sketches and watercolours that you possibly can. It would be a great disservice to the world if more of these are not seen!!

You've got a great understanding of lines, both drawn and implied, and it shows in their simplicity and purpose. Great stuff, please keep us all updated!

Five Star work, man. Great start here.

Great stuff here mate! Good colours and strong drawings! What you could work on would be more opaque strokes and better edgecontrol. Other than that I am crawling at your feet, you are doing great

    Mike: Glad you like it

Mischeviouslittleelf: Thanks for your critique. I will keep it in mind - especially edge control is a good point. I think at least in the important parts I should be more careful.

A little update for today - tomorrow is gonna be a more interesting one .

LITTLE-FEET: Heh, i'm honored to hear that from you your stuff is great.

Note to myself: Never paint sheep again - they're annoying, scream, and then will run away.

Well... maybe I lied when I said "tomorrow". But here is the promised update.

These are made on the street, because I got some bucks for making portraits of people on a "Red Hair Day" event. Kinda odd that idea I must say.
Was really stressy, and the images of the most interesting models turned out horrible. But for a first time it was ok - weirdly enough it was really fun, and next time I'll make less mistakes

    Thats the location (Breda, Holland).

I especially like when you paint the city, Venise is such a beautiful place!
Did you know the Turner watercolors? He painted Venise too! This book is amazing, and not much expensive.

    Clochette: Thanks a lot.
I know the Turner watercolors - very inspiring. I will try to get the book - thanks for the tip.

28chelseaslater: Thank you, I'm glad you like it

Here is another sketchbook of mine, that went full 2 month ago. More stuff is coming soon from my latest vacation.

The follwoing 3 pics are from a Berlin trip - the first is Berlin by night from the TV-Tower.

And here is Sweden ... love the place. You can also check the 2 watercolors I did there on the webpage. I was on Gotland - and island close to Stockholm. In the town Visby was a medieval festival for a week. Great times

    Back to the Netherlands!

Hey, there's a lot of awesomeness hiding here.
I'm particularly fond of the "iconic" style of your monochrome sketches.
They look like panels cut out of a long graphic novel.
Thanks for sharing your work. Keep it up, I'll be looking.

Started it like 2 years ago - finally took some time at Christmas to fix it. Maybe I'll fade the background a bit later when its dry.
