Nice style going on with the values and robo armour designs! Keep working on the figures, the armours don't always look like there's a human inside. Faces and hands look great though!
very enjoyable. look forward to more
Diggin' the Ditch?
pretty cool stuff man, nice sketches. The occasional splashes of colour look good to, that's something I gotta start doin more. Some of the lines and shapes in your drawings look a little weak at the mo, I'd try doing some simple line drawings and working on that, maybe render one fully every so often. Not to say I don't like 'em, just at times looks like you're trying to make a not so successful outline drawing into a good full blown piece, which is tough. Still, good schtuff.

NICE. VERY NICE.
I like those moleskine pages with the color -- specially the one in your first post.
Full of energy and style~
And your pencilling's gorgeous. I'm obsessed with drawing in pencil now just to get to a level like yours. ;D

Watch the length of your upper arms and the size of your hands. Some are too long, too large. Drawn nicely, but out of proportion.
Love the rendering style and the overall feel of the pages.
Will check back when you've updated some more.

working on a picture of a pirate/mercinary
@ Smuli, I know what you mean I sometimes have a little difficulty wrapping the armour around the subject, (if its the angel with the red spots then i was drunk when i drew it haha)
@ Sean, shut up noob, you dont know anything about art... (i took your advice and drew a load of faces!) tate brit on thursday?
@ Ditchman, thankyou! i'll be happy to oblige
@ wookiedabo, cheers for the advice, i get carried away with shading sometimes, im gunna go and do a load of simple figure sketches
@ Naomi, im thinking of making a whole range, thats just a prototype:p
@ Aifolx, Thankyou! i use hb/h leads in a 0.3 propelling pencil, makes a big difference
@ SEVANS, Haha, my one true foe! big hands and long arms, its a really bad habit, but i'll get to grips with it eventually! (try to make an asserted effort whilst sketching)

Hey Jim, you've definitely got the most impressive moleskine I've seen... makes me wish I didn't hate mine so much. The last Roland is excellent, your ability to render is quite impessive. I also like the fact that you add a little bit of color here and there to your sb, keep it up!
@ tie and aefx, thanks guys
I'm afraid that the pickings are pretty thin at the moment, this is a small selection of stuff done recently

Hello! Great sketchbook, very expressive! Keep on going. The only small critique for the moment- tidying up the pencilly shading-goodness!

I always liked thos knght of yours ;p
with the coloring try put the color layer on multiply for the main color think it would look better with alot of the pencil work visible and for anyother work make anew normal layer ;p my 2p
Thanks mogster! i have a sneaking feeling its already on multiply...
just another moleskine sketch

Oh wowza! Welcome to the group!
I just want to say, like I've already had to say, beautiful work!!
You are really shining lol!
I'm going to have to observe some of your work to get a better grasp on my own lol!
Anyway, I just wanted to ask you the same question as everyone else:
How do you feel about having this be a semi-active group? Like a once a week challenge or something?
Just asking, lemme know.

HeyWelcome to the group
Nice art, I really like your hatching technique
One crit, I think if you push the values in your works they would be improved.
Keep drawing away ;0
I want blaaaaack. Also, maybe we could see some of your rougher stuff? I like your rendering but I want to see you loosen up and make things move.
Good work though!
Heya, fellow sketcher!
Very impressive, your pencils look beautiful. Your line quality is good and your shading, esp.the crosshatching is looking pretty confident. I'm looking forward to see this sb grow
Say, one question, because I just bought myself a Moleskine yesterday and I see you've got one. I bought a Plain Notebook but when browsing the catalogue that came along, I noticed something called Sketchbook as well :/ Do you have that kind or ust a plain one like mine? Apparently the sketchbook paper is supposed to be of more quality etc, just wondering if you knew.
But that aside, I'm looking forward to all the sketch activities. Keep it up!

Hello bro![]()
You got some really good looking stuff over here, i really dig those knight designs , the Roland one is pretty neat, that hatching must have taken awhile to do.
Only though i have is that there could be some darker lines added here and there, pushing the values a bit could bring some more of your pics. Just an opinion.
See ya around![]()
Hmm although I'm kind of unable to post art right now I can still keep up with my SSG-buddies I guess.
First of all, you are, like, the design man. You got great presentation-skills (The Poland-one is especially juicy) and the technique seems to run down smoothly when it comes to pencil-shading and stuff. You have great abilities with tech- and armor-designs and it would be great if you could give me some pointers of how you approach those.
However, I think there's a lot of stuff that can be improved, beginning with your anatomy. It looks like you were solely learning from a source like Loomis or Hogarth. Your Heads for example are 3D, you can twist and turn the features, but they are all dolls, lifeless. The same goes with your body, the muscles are all there and the bodies are doing something, but there is no feel of personality. In a posture, there has to be attitude, gravity. Here's an example of how it's gone wrong: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1215176575
There is everything attached and basically sound (Apart from the right boob and the fact you deliberately avoided drawings hands. You might want to look into that). But the pose is extremely stiff and it looks very tensed like she froze or something. Her facial expression is pretty much not helping. I can't really recall what kind of feeling she has, it looks more like you kind of randomly put the facial muscles onto her skull. Oh, and she has a very strange under-jaw which shouldn't go directly into the ear-region like that.
But that's minor. All in all I think you should enhance your range by drawing from nature and not only from tutorials. Get some life into your drawing by drawing from life. I know that a lot of concept-artists use those standard-comic-book poses and expressions but the real pros induce personality and emotion into their work. I really believe that.
Oh and for Asa to answer your question: There's 2 kinds of moleskine with blank pages. The note-one has around 240 pages I think wether the scetchbook-one has only around 100 (That's why I could finish my last one in about a week) with a lot thicker pages. I used both and for the the consistency of the surface is about the same so I'd recommend using the notebook since you got more pages to burn, only other pages will shine through when scanning but that's the only disadvantange I see. Oh, and that you can use markers better with the scetchbook-one.
Wow, thanks guys! especcially faust, life drawing is a definate must, im going to art college in september (im still 17!) but I think i'll go and draw some of my friends in the mean time, I bought an anatomy book too (the DK anatomy for artists) tone is something i have tackled since my last post, and is due to me using a 0.3 H pencil... i'll use some more, different grades, (makes a huge huge difference) promise. anyhooo im still green! (haha, well aware i still have so so much to learn!) great stuff, i'll return all comments tonight.
OK listen contrast is your number one tool in pencil drawings, it seems you are fighting it rather than using it, Like in the Roland piece there are grays everywhere but no blacks. manipulate your pencil to provide you with all of the advantages
other than that you have a good sense of balance and your poses are cool armor design are also nice just remember contrast, texture variance, and detail to steer the viewers eye through the page. Stop by sometime I work mostly in pencil as well

Just a few more quick sketches, apologies for the lack of life drawing, but im pretty much stuck in the house.
art college in september though

HEY!
Hehe sorry for that, when i see a polar bear always reminds me of one of our national beer brands http://av.celarg.org.ve/AmilcarArape/logoPolar.gif that logo is everywhere over here.
Anyways, nice designs. Are the human hands on the bear added on purpose?
