Fridas random doodles. Harsh critique wanted.

    Hello there.

My name is Frida I´m from Sweden. I have just finished a two year graphic design school. I will probably apply to other schools soon, but I havn't decided what and where I want to study. I would like to work as an illustrator.

Right now I feel lost, it feels strange to be on my own with no teachers or classmates.

These sketches and doodles are definitely not my best work but they are my most recent work so please bear with me.

The first picture is a button for my online portfolio. You can find a link to it at the bottom of my post. Any thoughts about the portfolio would be most welcome.

    More stuff

The first picture is a page from my sketchbook where I was supposed to work on a IP Telecom logo. Despite all my doodling I actually finished it.

I was trying to make the girl on the brown paper as curvy as possible without it looking ridiculous. I think I failed.

Oh! by the way does anyone know how to edit the picture thats on display out in the forum?

No comments eh! I guess I´l just upload some more stuff then.

First a quick study of some elderberry flowers that I did today.

A pig drawn from a photo

and two roleplaying character portraits. a halfling and a tiefling.

I´m taking my dog for a walk now and if I dont see any comments when I get back there will be hell to pay!...or maybe I will be somewhat cranky.

Lookin' good, Frida. I followed you over from your plaintive post on what's-her-name's thread, thinking your sketchbook was going to be some kind of graphic disaster area, but no. You have a very appealing style and a range of subjects. Things move very fast in the sketchbooks thread, so don't be disappointed if you get pushed off the bottom of the page before anyone comments. Just keep posting nice things from time to time!

Oh, and anybody who has a stoat on her front page is hokay by me (an ermine is a stoat in her Winter coat).
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

So my cunning plan to lure people in to my sketchbook worked mohahha!

Anyway I am very glad that you were positively surprised. And I am also very happy that the first post in my sketchbook is from an artist that I admire very much.

Thanks for the encouragement I needed that.

I like little critters with pointy teeth. Stoats ar called Lekatt/Hermelin in Swedish.

    Will do!
Cafe sketching is a good idea. I used to do a lot of life drawing at school. But that is much easier because then you knew how long time the model where going to hold the pose. I´m not very confident about my sketches and people can be so rude some times and stare over my shoulder, It always creeps me out. Anyway thank you very much timpaatkins. I like your work very much aswell.

    Thank you very much Amir.

I finished that medieval looking girl I am happy with her expression but her face is all crooked. Should have spent some more time on the sketch before rendering it. No reference used even if I probably should have. That seethrough cloth could have been better. I am pretty happy with it despite all its flaws.

Under that pictures is some sketches of a siberian husky that I drew in the park today.

I´m also posting a character sketch. I could use some advice on shading and anatomy.

So I have been away for a while on a trip but I had a little time to jot something down in my sketchbook.

First we have a landscape picture. I was trying out a different sketching style. I really like the tree but the rest blows.

Then we have a picture of a Koi fish called Putte, a sketch of my dog Tellus. and a drawing of a magnolia flower that I drew from a photograph.

And I always have some time to spare to draw a roleplaying character or two. Heres a portrait of that woman you seen previously. I was trying to figure out, what her scars would look like.

I have been away visiting relatives. They have a little boy who is crazy about dragons. And I was asked to paint one on the door to his room in the new house they just bought.

And I did. First I drew a few sketches and the boy was to choose on that he liked. It turned out he didnt like any of them. So I made a fast sketch of the most cliche dragon I could think of, and he loved it.

I havnt been painting with real colours for years and it seemed to me that I forgot everything while working on the dragon. Ussually I take my time with a painting but I had to rush the work since I only had two days before I were going home. It´s not really finnished but the kid loves it and that whats most important I suppose.

There is some very interesting stuff in here. Keep on drawing and sharing.
I really like how the dragon turned out even if it was very cliché.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you very much guys.

Ok! First a finished piece. Its a very ambitious background for me.

Then we have some sketches of my husband, my sister and and an older woman I know.

And a sketch that seems promising to me.

Heres a little drawing I did for Seedlings concept art 101 thread. The assignment was to make a study of an object and then modify it in some way.

Since this is supposed to be a sketchbook I decided to post some unaltered pages right from the scanner.

I have been around a lot of dogs lately so there are lots of dog sketches, both from imagination and from real life. Otherwise these pages are rather typical for my sketchpad. Its basically just random doodles next to each other.

I have a desperate plan to make some more money.
I was thinking that new parents would be glad to have nice drawing of their babies. So I have made some drawings to to put on a poster where I am offering my services.

When I am done with this one I plan to make another one later targeting pet owners.

I hope that this will work. I´m having lots of problems coming up with a good headline for the poster. Any ideas?

    Heres the pet version.
Fur takes a whole lot longer to render than baby skin.

Hello my name is Frida, sometimes I draw bare chested male drows.
I feel like my paper is punishing me for it. It seemed like every particle of graphite decided to move someplace different than where I placed it. It doesnt help either that once again I started out ridiculously small. His head is the size of my thumb.

Anyway I did this picture to match an old one of a drow woman that I made a few years ago. I havn´t made that much progress have I? Depressing.

Stay tuned for the painted version.

Awh you totally deserve more comments, you've got some beautiful work here! I dig the baby/pet drawing service idea by the way, and with all the charm you put in your drawings you're bound to get a lot of commissioners. Both your drows look gorgeous but I can definitely see improvement in the rendering/shading department; you've got the dark darks and the white whites on both characters, but there seems to be a wider range of mid tones on the male that makes him look a lot more natural and a lot less shiny. Keep it up!

    Thank you Andrea

So far I´m not really drowning in commissions. But I did just finish a picture for my first pet portrait commission. I am very happy with it.

Hello just passing by to give some encouragements!

The last pic looks really well done and just keep going!

One thing I like about conceptart.org is that you have to work hard to get a lot of comments. I look at this in a great way as you just need to work harder and post more stuff to get noticed. Dont feel down if you arent getting a lot of replies.

Your observations are awesome. And the pencil is so cute.

I can't help feeling like the dragons are like everyone else's, though.

Thank you. Yes the dragons are nothing special. I havnt been been drawing any dragons for ages, and I dont think the kid I did these for would apreciate an original looking dragon.

Thanks. Well I´m not very good at painting and colors. Thats definitely an area that I need to work on.

I dont do much painting but I will post the only oil painting that I feel a bit proud of. It is done in the style of Tamara de lempicka, because I thought it would go well with the book.

I´m also adding some other stuff that is a bit different from what I have posted so far.

    Lets see here.

New roleplaying character that had to be drawn. She is a paladin of The Raven Queen.

And I coloured the drow picture.
