Ninja kitties! .. and uh, sketches

    Hey there
..my name is Eva, I'm 24 years old and from Iceland. I study at Academy of Art University and I'm majoring in Illustration. I've been drawing since I can remember, heck I knew how to turn on the TV and video to watch Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck at the age of 2 (didn't learn to speak until 4 but hey..).

My dream is to work in pre-production, preferably for animated movies, but open to anything really. As for now, I'm just working my butt off trying to make good stuff so I can do what I love for a living. I rarely if ever feel proud of what I do, though I really did surprise myself when I went to art school. I have a lot more to learn though, and I really hope to get better as time goes by.

Anyway, enough babble. Let's post some artsies ^^

.. and some of my personal stuff. For a long time I drew only toony stuff, now I'm kinda tired of it and want to try something else. Realism and photoshop painting being a few

The first image was a little project of mine I wanted to do. The original theme was "children's books". I put together many of my favorite childhood stories/fantasy characters and put them in one piece.
    From left to right top:
Knight in shining armor, princess, unicorn, troll, dragon
    from left to right bottom:
wolf, dwarf, fairy godmother, elf, mouse, lion.

some thumbnails I did for fun some time ago.
When I was in San Francisco, I noticed that I never saw any cats. So my mind wandered and I sketched this picture out.
The dragon appeared in my sketchbook during one of my classes so I decided to color it.

The last two pictures are more recent. The polar bear cub was a test to see what I could do in the shortest time possible. The tiger was something I gave myself a bit more time to do.

I have loads to learn.. but practice is good =)

Dan Valkar: Thanks! And yes believe me there will be a lot more pencil/pen stuff, since I love sketching with those two. Personally I always feel I lose the 'feeling' of the drawing when I try to render it beyond a sketch. Even my teachers brought it up in class so it's something I just have to work on

Some sketches. Just random stuff really. A few pages I sketched while waiting for my bf to finish work, and some sketches of my cat. I'll post something better when I have more time (my jobs are taking all my time x__x).

    I really like your faces.

As a note, I think a lot of people, if not everyone, (save for those whose styles are rough all over, even in color) tend to lose the feeling of their sketches in the final product just because final products are usually cleaner. Of course, you can compensate for that with color or what have you...maybe even making things a little messy. I'm trying to figure that out myself.

Anyway, I'm also a fan of your cute yet realistic animals. Looks like you've got a firm hold on them, too! I dunno what else to say. Yours is one of the many kinds of styles that I like. The good kind. O_O

Hæ Eva, glad to see you made a sketchbook!

You've got a very well developed style regarding the toons, that's obvious. Your cute animals just put a huge grin on my face But as great as they are, I actually think I prefer the ones that are slightly more realistic. Like the cat sketches in your last post, those are wonderful! The little thumbnails above are beautiful as well, love your use of colours there. I hope to see much more of your work

Great start so far! Your sb has a very traditional-animation feel to it... it's refreshing to see that amongst so much CG-oriented art these days. Keep it up!

Senshuu: Thanks, I just have to kick myself into gear and do that more. I guess it gets better the more you do it, I just need practice I grew up drawing my pets so I feel a lot more comfortable drawing animals than humans, now I'm trying to improve my human skill x__x

JPC: Thanks Have some more ^^

AsaB: Hey thanks ^^ I'm trying to steer more away from toony stuff (though I guess I'll never stop drawing that way..) and go more into realism, since I'd like to learn that as well

    Jorge Gecov: Thanks

BohemianChaos: THank you, I feel honored because I grew up adoring traditional animation and I've always been inspired by it =)

I haven't had a lot of time to draw for myself lately but I managed to grab my toned sketchbook today and sketch in the gap I had after work. The face was done by reference. I suck at drawing them so I have to practice a whole lot more They're difficult!

couple of projects from school this semester I forgot to post. It's a cast drawing and a still life piece done for Analysis of Form, both done in charcoal.

Gaman að sjá meira frá þér!

Your work is so fun, I just fell in love with the robot and kitty one, adorable beyond words! Those charcoal drawings look amazing as well, I like especially the cast drawing, beautiful shadows.

So is it done at your own place? That little I see of the background looks quite domestic, more than a classroom. Home assignments, maybe?

AsaB: takk Although I really have to give my Analysis of Form teacher credit for that because she was such an awesome teacher. She explained everything to us very clearly and made something that seemed daunting not so daunting at all ^^

The cast drawing (which was done in class) was photographed in the classroom and - and you're right - the still life was taken in my campus apartment, it was a homework assignment.

Ok more stuff.. last school stuff I promise ^^;; Portrait assignment.

Took a sketch I did the other day and see whether I could like.. paint it digitally so I decided to take a speedpainting session. It kept my mind off of my awful headache for a while, which was good. Didn't finish it though.. but it was a good practice nonetheless ^^

Hey, been a long time since the last update, sorry about that. Went on a 2-week vacation overseas and the work before and after that was extremely busy :/

anyway, lots of weird stuff coming your way
I love the ideas my bf gives me when I ask him to (had a huge art block). He asked for a chimp in suit with a bowler hat. I liked the idea so I sketched it down. Now I want to make a real illustration based on the idea.

Nice updates. Wow, you've been busy. I like the panda bear in the last post, it has some cool colors going on in it though i feel there could be a second focal point than the face. i feel like i'm drawn into his face with nothing else to take my eye away or give it a rest. all in all, a great sketchbook. cheers'

    mentler: thanks!

carlosranna: Thanks; I put the image through Photoshop again and slightly reduced the saturation, and I saw what you meant. Thanks for the tip

    Nemisis: Thank you, I love drawing animals; their anatomy comes more natural to me than a humans ^^;;

ArtZealot: You know, I didn't even think about the focal point until you mentioned it. It's true, there could've easily been a second one in there. I'm gonna remember that the next time I draw

    Anyway, small update for now.
