cool stuff, i like your progression and urge to draw - gimme some

im drawing with charcoal and chalk atm and i wanna let u try sometime that im looking into atm. im currently studying drapery, previously heads.

if u get something that has sharp edged shadows, apply the chalk and charcoal on heavily next to each other, blow away the excess dust (away form the bit ur drawing) and run your finger along the point where the white and black meet a few times. u should be left with a black and white divided finger and a smoothed line from black to white. i'd like to see what u come up with

Thanks for your comment in my SB. Ashley woods is one of my favourite artists...and unfortunatelly his stuff is too good and this effect take effort on me.

I see you do a lot to improve your skills. Thats a good attitude. Some of your cube/box drawings are fine, but on complex and organic things i cant see that confidence. I think you should train your lines too: try to find the good shapes with less line, so you will have to use not just straight lines (for example on faces)... i know the basics are to build the head geometrically... try different technics too: try to build the portrait just with the mass of tones, without contours, mirror your images, find the faults, and correct them

but this long talk is just b*llsh*t...>>> spin it, and go ahead

Oil painting of some friends acting silly. Might be a bit too dramatic...

I made a rough sketch of an advertisement. It looked sort of okay so I thought I'd post it here.
And we did hands in class today. Was a lot of fun, I really got into it near the end :p

    nothing much, just more candy.

Was quite hard to do with watercolors as the paper was transparant.
Didn't really feel like taking it all that far.

    cheers

Thanks for stopping by my SB.
I really dug the Hawfinch study on page one. Looking through your SB, I see that you see to have alot of confidence when it comes to buildings and othre geometric shapes, but your figures seem to lose alot of that.
Working through some gesture drawing everyday could help you loosen up more. Now, I'm not sure if you've heard of posemaniacs.com but I think it could help here. Try to accomplish with a few lines what you've been doing with alot of lines. Hope that helps some. Cheers and keep up the progress!.

mentler you're too kind, I'm not worth 5 bones yet though

MrHobox87 It's on top of my to-do list.

Sadly it's up there with a whole lot of other non-sketch related stuff.
But it is actually something I was hoping to get back into
    Thanks for the tip though

Here's some heads for a future lay-out thingy.

Your perspective drawings and designs have a great level of finish. Inspiring work there.

With the digital paintings I would advise you to be aware of your edges and how your values transition within forms. This latest head study looks really good, although I would be careful about leaving the black outline on the nose - with the proper values that nose will read as a separate form anyway.

The sources you pull from are very charming and compelling. Minxes are sweet!

M0RS - Thanks for the comments. You're right, I do still have a lot of stuff I need to watch out for on the digitals. The nose outline is idd a bit dark

    Here's some posemaniacs studies.
I think I was working a little too small at first.

They actually look better in real life. stupid mobile phone <_<

    Edit:
oh right, these last ones are excercises on trying to figure out where the weight is distributed in the body.

Thanks for the crit, they are always appreciated. Anatomy is a fun thing to play around with, even more so when it comes to creature design. I enjoy your work, as far as figures go, try applying a bit more gesture to really push their action. "S" and "C" curves work best for that.
    Strive.

looking good! one thing I noticed is that it almost seemed like two people were posting here, there was the stuff that you would do really quick and it would be scribbly and there was the stuff you spent time on and planned out and it looks great. the scribbly thing is something I have trouble with too, I recommend drawing things out and use as smooth a line as possible and make sure all the proportion are good before you start shading, because once you start shading its really hard to go back and change things. also try and do as much from reference as possible, we're all learning and this will help. also for the digi painting, a thing I have been doing that has been helpful is I sketch out the drawing and block in the basic colors and shadows and then take a soft round brush with lower opacity and maybe smooth out the areas that need smoothing and then when the basic shapes are looking good, I get a smaller brush and add some detail. In the last post the water colors, the vegetables, flamingos, and face look great, watercolors are really hard but yours are looking really good. But the pencil drawings are looking scribbly, one thing i have learned about pencils is that if you go back over the dark shadows with a harder pencil it can really help to smooth out the shading. Keep it up your improvement is great!
