    Macar

I've been in love with CA for a long time and I finaly got up the courage to register. I'm a very average artist, but art brings me joy. I especialy like concept art because it's part of a larger project- I like to play with others

So, here's some of my stuff. I draw and dabble in photoshop. I dont have any training or anything, so if you can teach me things, please do.

PS> I host on imageshack, what do cool art people use?

    Hello Macar,
If you want to bump your sketchbook, then post more art in it.

What are your goals with your art? It's easier to give feedback when I know what you want to get out of it.
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

Ah, thanks for the advice, seedling. I read the rules now... oops.

As for what I want, I just want to continue improving- since I have no career aspirations it's not essential- just fun. Two main areas I generaly focus on are anatomy (quite challenging for me) and texture- making something that looks touchable.

here's some more sketches (I have a back log of these)

and something I worked on today:

Sounds like you’ve got some good goals.

Have you ever taken a life-drawing course or open studio? Even if you have no professional ambitions, since you are so interested in anatomy you would probably enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the comment, seedling. No, I havent taken classes of any discription- especialy one where I'd get to work from life. I'd like to, but I dont really have the time or money to do so. I'm revisiting a book on anatomy though, (that's where those drawings came from).

Anyway, here's today's product- I got some new tortillions and an kneaded eraser- couldnt wait to try them

Wow, you certainly are improving each time, just looking at previous pictures of yours, and now these, the anatomy is doing you so much good. I can't wait to see more of it. Maybe start looking at thigns from reference, and then trying to draw them, withoit the reference, could extend your anatomical skills.

The drawing I did for SP day. I think it looked better before I colored it. I messed up the outlines somehow- it looks really hard and cartooney.

I have a question- if anyone wants to answer. Is this normal: I have a problem with drawing on a flat desk- everytime I do it, I forget to look at the picture direcly form above. Then I get a skewed perspective and my drawings end up looking all stretched out

I don't get that, get a firm piece of metal or soemthing... and sit it upright on your lap and draw, it makes it way more comfortable.

I have tried that, Pound, but a stiff neck when I work on something in that position for a long time. I guess I probably need to just relax my body and not draw with so much tension. tension dosent help in anything!

    Little update- Minotaur.

And a colored version of an older sketch.

Hey Macar, you've got some good stuff here!! Like your portrait pieces! You should take a photo and turn it upside down and draw it like that. That should really help you see and draw better. Your eyes don't seem to be aligned properly. Hope this helps you. Keep postin buddy!!!

Macar, it seems to me that your main problem is with proportion. In your hanging man the head fits into the body five and a half times. Since the head is foreshortened and the toes are pointed, it should fit in at least eight.
In your woman with the axe, the head fits in 5 times; it should be at least 7....

Life drawing or reference studies should help a lot.

Hey, thanks for the comment. Yeah, I draw from life whenever I can but I cant seem to transfer what I learn to when I draw from my head- it seems like a totaly different process.

The woman with the axe is supposed to be a dwarf- so the proportional odity there was intended.

Here's something I drew the other day using my computer mouse. I feel like I failed to create unity- the carapace seems realy disjuct from the furry hindquarters.

A DSG and a COW I did. I know the proportions suck on the DSG- it was done in haste.

I'm trying to connect 2 ideas. When I draw from my head- I map the figure out starting with the skeiton, trying to understand what I'm drawing. But- when I draw from life: I find that trying to understand will only frusterate me- I have to just draw shapes- without thinking about what those shapes mean in 3 dimensional space.

How do I connect the 2? Or is there any connection?

I like your studies most! And yes aint da vinci awesome... keep studying the old masters, im sure it'll do you nothing but good. Not very fond of your ps-stuff, perhaps try dong them b/w first then apply the colors? you are getting better though!

Hi!! It's really cool to see you working hard with the drawings and colouring! Keep it up! I'll say, work on those proportions, but don't overwhelm yourself! Each try is another step. I see that when you draw, you just go at the pose and character. Sometimes, it might be good to sketch some looser sketches and doodles. Relax your hand, as someone has suggested to me. Then you can really take your time in drawing, and eventually do it a little faster in confidence.

Your colouring is pretty good! Finding the most appropriate light source is a challenge, but that'll also help with colouring and shading! Maybe try blocking in colours from different references, to get an idea of how and where the light falls onto certain textures and colours!

Oh yes, and have you been able to use the Image Management tool, when you post a reply? (Not Quick Reply, "Post Reply") It's the black paperclip button! It'll be much easier for you and us to get a good look over your images!

Sorry about those- imageshack wasnt cooperating I'll repost them. Thanks for the tips- I'll take to heart the one about losening the hand- I think it hold way more tension than I should. What do you mean by blocking out color, though? Do you mean simplifying the colors to a few zones?

Anyway, here's that Chow- Post apocolypitic scavenger. I hate his right arm.

These were from a recital I went to.

Hey! Glad my advice is helpful some! With blocking in colour, I'll probably confuse us more, so here's an example from bumskee's awesome PS thread. Scroll to post #6! It's probably what you mean, too:

    http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47859

That's an interesting concept for the scavenger!! Heh! Great efforts! I certainly haven't seen an idea like it in the thread!

With the different characters, I think you have nice clothes for them! It's a matter of continuing to work on the anatomy and lines, cleaning them up more. If you can get your hands on a blue (or other colour) pencil, perhaps you could try drawing your subject with that first, then use a regular pencil over it to refine your picture! I tend to do that for some of the more complex drawings, ones that may not end up as only sketches.

I have bad/good news! I will be getting a hand-me-down wacom tablet. Bad news is that I forgot to take it with me- so it's still at my Parent's house. Here's a doodle I did with it there:
