Could you possible post a close-up? I'm curious of how you are achieving those textures on the boys skin.

It look like it was done using the smudge tool or a soft edge I'm guessing
Well Mrs Spot I am in bewildered awe of your skills yet again!! and miserably I go back to my paltry efforts on my drawing board......... LOL
you are quite simply brilliant thanks verymuch for posting.

oh man! I guess it's caravaggio, so ruining it would be blasphemi.
but seriously, good cooking is just being very good at not ruining the food when you prepare it.. and you just cooked up a master piece!

I agree with JJacks...those textures around the arm are very nice.

wow Blackspot I love that master study.
I am a huge Caravaggio fan and instantly recognized it - the fantastic skin colors have already been mentioned so may I just add that the black outline on his left arm is slightly distracting at the moment. I know Caravaggio often has those outlines, but they tend to be a bit lighter and thus less obvious.
Is this oil then?
will keep an eye on this![]()
The line will be removed when I finish the cloth. I did do it last week, forgot to save before trying something else and went back to square one. That's life I suppose. Close ups will follow when I've finished.
Last night I went with my youngest to his school disco. Took a blank jotter book and spent most of the time scribbling. Wretched people wouldn't stay still. Also won a bottle of bubbly in the raffle. This isn't all my sketches but some pages were barely started before they moved. Drawing kids doing the hula-hoop was challenging and I'm quite pleased with the last picture. Also it was very dark and I could hardly see - using every excuse in the book.

Not sure how long it took, about 15 minutes I guess,
Back to my still life that I've been neglecting. Started gazing. Now have to wait for it to dry for the next coat.

I really like how you caught the refraction within the beads.

That mirror reflection is great. I am looking forward to finished picture. Painting from #1653 looks awesome.
hi blackspot! thanks for stopping by my sb with those usefull pointers!
the still life, it feels haphazourdos. I first thought maybe even the perspective lines must have been messed up or something, but it's all good.
I think it's to do with your framing. you cut off the objects at all sides.
an art teacher once told be this was fine for all sides but the buttom side- the place your objects rest on the table or whatever.
you want the whole table inside the frame. because it's your frame of reference. else everything will allways feel off balance.
urm. well, does that make sense? it seems I did a lot of typing without my point being crystal clear.I hope you understand my meaning regardless.
Warning, I draw babiez
Haha, I know the feeling of trying to draw people just walking around, or just people that are shifting position a lot gets frustrating trying to jot people down quickly. Imagining people dancing would be quite the challenge.
Last one looks nice though and your coming along nicely with your ongoing works too. Your master study after looking back a page has come a long way.
Love the master study so far. Watch your edges though; some of them are pretty sharp. Are you done with it or still planning to work on it some more?
The rendering and subtle color in the still life is really nice. I think compositionally it's a bit dull because it's a series of objects that are mostly rectangular in shape and not really interacting with each other. There are no large, sweeping shapes tying the composition together, and the objects are placed next to each other instead of overlapping (except in the top left where the beads hang down over the edge of that jewelry box. There are some overlaps on the right side as well, but it's really hard to tell where one object ends and another begins and which is front and which is behind.) For example, the beads are hanging straight down between two objects when they could have been laid out to pass over around and under the other subjects and create some large diagonal shapes to lead the eye around. I'm not saying that you should change anything about it at this point, but rather, keep this in mind when planning future pieces.

I like the scribbly self-portrait. I also like this one as part of your sketches--> http://attachments.conceptart.org/fo...3&d=1332621253
You know, I love sketches. I find certain atmospheres in certain types of sketches. I just picked this one out, but I guess it was speaking more 'stylistically' here- with the very very dark idea.

this one is looking superb, though i don't quite understand the position of the lower head, it seems really sharply pulled back but pushed down, and looks like an impossible maneuver? Maybe there's something I'm not quite seeing and just looking at it wrong.![]()
Hey, Black Spot. I know what you mean about people never staying still when you try to draw them. If you don't have it already, Figure Drawing without a Model by Ron Tiner is a good book to have.
In it (I believe it's this book), he talks about studying the patterns of people and looking for repetitious behavior and drawing it from memory as people won't stop moving.
I've started doing this recently and it helps out a ton.
Later!

Lao-tzu, The Way of Lao-tzu
I was just watching the Chinese detective on my portable,
and then I felt a tingling feeling around my neck and I knew
that you updated with some awesomeness. How do you manage
to do all this fantastic things Mrs. Spot? Please tell me, how
you doing all this? You are a real precious example to us all,
you are something like a chrome monument was to
the survivors in Mad Max III.
Let the Lord give you power
to do many many more art
and updates. Cheers.
David's hands look amazing!
How often do you do quick gestures such as this? It looks really good, I'd suggest doing more of those because they really sharpen up some kind of intuitive understanding when it comes to drawing.
Cheers!
Kerah, actually I don't very often. I should do a lot more. I went prepared because I remember the last time I had to go to a school disco and the total boredom that ensues when you don't do the school run and don't know anyone. That was done after a bottle of wine (the school lets parents bring in a moderate amount of alcohol for the evening).

Update on the master study. I'm off on holiday next week so I hope to finish it then.

It is getting much sharper and crisper.
And larger.
I like the way how you handle the
dark times when there are no candles
around. Your every move, touch and spin,
makes a difference in the never ending
industry of sorrow. Was fascinated before,
but now I am even more.
You have astounded us all Mrs. Spot,
the crowd is chanting your name once again.
Why does everything go wrong during my holidays? Haven't been drawing as much as I'd hoped.
Here's a self portrait with lots of colours.

I like lots of colours.
I like lots of colours A LOT.
That's such a rad portrait hehe.
I know that feeling. Once I have the time to draw something happens and prevents me from doing it lol. Then I have to have to make the choice of giving up a little sleep to mess around a bit.
Latest updates look good, masters study is still looking great, and like many people are going to say, I like the colors in the last one. Very interesting.
