Good to hear about the spamming slowing down.

I really like your last figure drawings...especially the reclining female. I also like the gestures...I'm trying to get mine looser in a similar way.

How often are you taking the figure drawing classes?

So, I've got an ignorant American question for you, as I have suddenly become a little bit obsessed with Henry VIII. How is he perceived by contemporary English culture?

bish0p2004 Oh, there's still plenty of spam, but the technical problems we're having at the moment meant I can't ban them efficiently nor get them all. I'm now turning the problem into a conceptual art, which you'll be able to read about in the Lounge soon.

CKLamb I do like to mix it up a bit - more fun that way. As to Henry VIII, he's mostly perceived as a fat geezer who liked his women and started the Church of England.

Update on my latest work - there hopefully, will be a lot more to this picture than just a pretty girl.

Now I know what the vectors were all about, nice animation a little jerky in places but good all the same. I can't honestly say the song was my choice of vibe (no wailing guitars etc) but it gets its message across ok.

Hey Black Spot, I saw your link on twitter and followed it here I'm liking the study so far and curious what your plans are for it. The face is particularly nice, a little dark and grey atm but it's still early of course. Oh and congrats on finishing your London animation; that turned out awesome. Cheers. This is more or less what I planned from the beginning. I'm going to play around with sizes etc to tweak it before I go in for the detail. All my reference photos were taken in the same lighting conditions. I might need to darken more of her.

Wow she is posing for you? Not sure I'd do that for my "mother-in-law" .. but then again, she hates me #ohwell (sorry, steering off course here :p)
I know it sounds a bit like a fetish when I say that I really like her left knee- the blush and the shadows make it so realistic!
You seem a lot more comfortable with painting as supposed to drawing- or am I wrong? Anyway, I still adore your mastercopy, and thanks for all the work here in the forums.

Great! My pictures are back and I can update. My life as a troll is at an end (fun though it was)

Okay been doing some more work on the composition. Missing out a number of stages I changed it to monochrome. Don't worry about the face - this is just my preliminary drawing for the canvas and now the picture matches the canvas dimensions which is quite big.



Before I start that, I decided to do some studies in how I want to paint, so here is my model again, this time on canvas. I drew here face with watercolour (using an old tube that split when I turned the lid) and then painted over it with acrylics. I still have a lot of refining to do before I get to the next stage.

Have a look at the UK thread (lounge/local groups), maybe a few pages back, but there are a couple of members who hang out at the V&A of an evening. I've only been to one meet-up. You could ask there and see if anyone is around.

I have to say, the girl with the flowers is still a bit confusing to me regarding the viewing angle. I feel like we're watching her from in front, while we see the rest of the image from above. It might be something about her pose and where she puts her weight... Looking good, otherwise, though.

and you can deal and handle anything. Put your shiny armor
on again and water the rosebushes, just as you always did.
The pretty girl among the flowers is very beautiful, I like how
you managed to put realistic skin colors around her elbows, knees
and feet. Good implementation of rose colors around her knees, that
was a brilliant step. Each and every time you put something new,
effective and interesting into your artistic arsenal.
If the promised eternal darkness ever happen, you will not sink down,
the light will always shine around your heart and mind.

Moved part on one eye, slightly changed the other. Now she's starting to look like it should. It's a bit of a mess, but this is only the start. Minor tweaking and then refining.

You probably don't want to hear this... But I actually think it looked slightly better before. But what I feel is a problem in both pictures is that her nose is sort of "fleeting around" in her face. I think it's to do with a few different things. First off the construction isn't really there. It doesn't feel like the nose is following the perspective or the form of the rest of the face. Secondly that very sharp shadow around her nostril which quite unnaturally emphasizes the roundness of it, sort of makes it feel like that part of the nose is floating above the face.

It also seems like the upper part of her head is way too big. It wasn't really visible before when it was cropped out of the picture. Check the length from the eyes to the bottom of the chin with the length from the eyes and up. This should give you a rough idea of where the front edge of the top of the "head box" is.

It's still early (and perhaps a bad photo as well) but I'd like to see you push the values quite a bit more, especially around the face, to really make it pop.

I know it looked better, but it didn't look like who I was painting. Any case it's just the rough underneath. For you tobbA I took it into my digital program and didn't much more than soften it and blend it.

Perhaps not. But my crits were mostly about the structure and kind of unrelated to likeness. I think it looks a bit better now (appart from being too blurry, of course). The nose doesn't look quite so weird anymore when the shadow isn't as dark. Proportions of the head are still a bit off though. It would of course help to crit it if there was a ref to compare to.

the shadow of the cheekbone seems slightly oddly sharp and straight to me - but I haven't observed heads under strong lighting much, so I trust that's how she actually looks.

looking forward to seeing how the painting (the flowers one) turns out eventually - concur with someone earlier who mentioned the angle of girl v. background seeming a little iffy.
