    towy: Thank you!

Xeon_OND: Bwahaha, that made me burst in laughter.

I got a Moleskine exclusively for sketching stuff outside. My regular sketchbook for that was only 2 EUR cheaper anyway, so I thought why not. I was excited to try it and then... OOFFF it doesn't eat the watered down india ink at all! The brush just left these grey drops of water on the paper. What a disappointment. I guess I just have to leave the grey stuff out and use only brushpen and pen. But it was so fun the first time I tried it! Sob.

I took 45+ mins to draw one hand and you took 4 - 8 mins?!
I demand that you make a video of yourself doing this, so that I can learn to sketch as fast as you.

Do you just glance at your hand and draw it from visual memory?
For me, I look at my hand, gauge the angle / lines, and if lines are off, I re-draw over and over till the thing looks right etc....

Xeon_OND: I do it just like you do. Look, draw, look, draw etc. Sadly, I don't have a video camera.

I have started to calculate my drawing hours from this day on. I made a table with OpenOffice and I clock my hours with a wrist stopwatch. I estimated that I have drawn about 2000 hours until now, which is pretty sad in 2 years. Clocking 10000 hours is my first drawing goal and I'm pretty sure I can get that in 3-4 years from now on. The system in Finland probably forces me to go to work for a year somewhere in 2011 so it'll slow my progress a bit. Of course I can choose to go to some art school instead... Surprisingly there is one interesting school in Finland.

Whats up taneli? Its good to find more countrymen here! Nice figure sketches! have you tried using gray tones as your middletones, and paper white as your brightest highlight? it gives alot of life to the drawing. Keep it up mate!

Fumble: Thanks! Again, self portraits frustrated me too much so I'm on a little break from them at the moment.

NoodleDoodle: Thanks for the tip. Rendering hasn't been my concern yet so I usually skip it at the moment. Trying to get better at constructing the figure first.

I have problems with concentration when drawing from head. I don't think at all and everything comes out randomly. This time mainly the construction of the figure in the first and well... everything in the second.

Taneli has done it again! Those legs with hatching shading is really good!
Everytime I see your sketches, I start to believe that hatching can work wonders.

Great observational drawings. Should probably try and take some of those poses over to your fantasy work.

georgedesio: Thanks, at the moment I'm kind of hoping my style will develop into a simple one.

    Crass: Thanks!

Xeon_OND: Yeah it works, just keep at it! My hatching is nowhere near good yet though. For a fine example check out the guy who posted below you.

Mischeviouslittleelf: You are right. It'll take me a couple of years before I can do somewhat convincing figures from head.

Maybe I should start shading practices since I can draw a bit nowadays. This is just abysmal, haha. I was so hopeful, the construction looked ok.

I really like your life drawings of random people. Also it's amazing how clean your lines were on the first page already. That's something I really have to work on myself.

    Fliegenpilz: Thank you.

This was made for a Simpsons drawing competition hosted by one of Finland's TV channels. There was no subject so I got to do whatever I wanted. Didn't make it to the final round but it was fun.

Not going to put any studies from books or photos here anymore, just stuff from head and from life. Rarely though... Sorry. Maybe more frequently later when I'm better.

Xeon_OND: Don't worry, you'll be seeing them later.

Here's an enthusiastic update! I made an important discovery and I thought I should share it. It will make me look stupid for not knowing it before now.

The visible moving part of the thumb is actually by far the longest of fingers on the palmar side. Just move your thumb to see that it actually starts straight from the wrist. Take a pencil and measure your moving part of the thumb with moving parts of other fingers and get ready to be blown away! In reality though the four fingers are longer, as can be seen if you study the bone structure. Furthermore, remember that on the other side the moving part starts from the knuckles and seen from there the middle finger seems to about as long as the thumb.

Here's a drawing to illustrate my discovery. It'll greatly help my hand drawings from head.
