GREAT job, dude! You're off yo a KILLER start. Looks like you have a good regiment so far, so keep it up! The self portraits are paying off big time, and so are the anatomy studies. One thing I enjoy about your work is it seems like you have a very natural sense of weight and motion. Even in the simplest figures you draw, I can see it.

Great to see you're updating your SB. It's good that you're drawing with a pen, it's much less forgiving than a pencil. The stuff looks solid, I like the composition of the environments.
I also like your drawings of people in public. Do you go to specific locations to draw these (e.g. park, coffee shop)?
Keep up with the studies, the gestures are looking good man.

SP's aren't easy, just take your time with it and really think about every line you put.

D.C. : I go to a train station. It's free, people usually don't sit around more than 2-10 minutes so I'm forced to get the pose down fast and the population changes rapidly. A good place to be, though sometimes too quiet in this small town.

My 0.5 mm pen ran out of juice and I had to switch to 0.35. I feel like I have a slightly better control with it.

Maybe I should start sharing these and not keep it all to myself. Here's from today. That abandonded house was no further than 50 metres away from the nearest apartment buildings! I drew it from the parking lot.

You're working hard man, and it shows. Your hands look pretty good and the bottle thing kicks ass. Try doing some head studies to improve you sp's.

Lots of effort here! On page one I wondered if it was tablet work since the lines were so clean I think some study of hand proportions/structure would improve them a bit, I'm only a beginner, but it helped me out a lot.

D.C.: Thanks. I'm going to do head studies soon, though I'm not really sure what I should be studying. Every department is lacking so I guess... just studying everything shouldn't lead me to the wrong path.

IvoM: The first page lines are clean but lifeless and rigid. I'm trying to get rid of it all the time. Varying lines helps bringing a small amount of life to my drawings but the lines are also a bit messier now.

FINALLY! My sketchbook of misery has run out of sheets. 100 sheets of thin, bad paper, hard to turn a page because the spirals are so bad, hard to scan because the sheets are messily aligned due to the bad spirals, erasing picks up the paper very easily. It's named "#8, 27.11.2008 - 18.07.2009". Freaking eight months for only 200 pages... horrible.

It's the first time ever I'm drawing water and I go straight to drawing live water with a pen. Sort of gave up immediately and drew some wave symbols here and there.

It's a medic bot with its minions. Some of them look happy because a new car accident has been reported... The dog looks dead but I assure you she is not, I'm just bad at decipting life! The ink and brush scribble is for testing purposes. The new paper is great, it buckled only a litte.

Slowly starting to get a hang of it! Self portraits are not torture anymore. They have been the worst source of frustration so far. Today's is pen and brushpen, initial sketch with a pencil.

Uuh I have to start doing a lot more still lifes. I've been neglegting them because they are so hard to do. The worst kind of excuse. While doing this shoe study I realized I don't get perspective all that well.

I see progress with the lines, but not on your anatomy of the body, even if you have drawn lots and lots of bodies from bridgeman you are not applying what you have draw on those copies, you have to change the way you study, I think you are not really memorizing anything when you are copying bodies, and I did that kind of mistake before, but you got to change the way you study or else you will copy and copy but you will not learn.

I advice this, try to draw a figure entirely from imagination, and then do your bigest effort to correct it and memorize the parts you correct, that way you will learn, it will be harder than just to copy, but you will learn from this excersize, otherwise you are just learning to copy, not learning anatomy.

Keep it up!, just change the way you study please!, I hate to see people making the same mistakes I did.

Christian223: My anatomy sucks because I haven't been drawing enough, simple as that. I don't believe there is a better way to study than copying a lot and thinking while doing it. Plus, I've gotten best results by concentrating on one body part at a time, not doing full figures. I think it might be worth mentioning that I really started seriously a bit over a month ago. Before that it was just getting used to drawing. I'm unemployed now and devoting most of my time to drawing. Improvements will come faster.

This Taneli guy is truly amazing. In just 1 year or so, he can do such beautiful drawings of humans and their poses, and even faces, and even houses and scenery!
And not just pencil......but ink! The fact that the drawings are so clean shows confidence and mastery.

If this isn't a case of the ability to learn fast, I dunno what it is. Hey Taneli, you're my latest and biggest inspiration and for art-challenged individuals like me and I've added this thread to my watch list.

Hopefully, I can become as good as you one day.

May I proudly present you... half-assed scissors!!! Does anyone else get quickly tired with rendering? It is highly boring. Maybe I should try to do it more to get used to it.
