This is one of the Undersea Conf. army's ships, this is the quickest of all, thats because it uses a Fusion Engine, and has no weaps. Its used as a reconnaissanment vehicle.

Another Ship, this time is a civil one. "The Devil Ray"

A few sketches up in my pg1 post.

Naomi - looks like you're going for a good original take the Deep concept. Early stages but at the moment the aquatic element isn't that clear. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

PaTXiNaKi - good start, you're going for a military fleet or similar? I think that with designs like this the trick might be showing that a craft is designed for going beneath the waves rather than being any plane or spacecraft.

yup, i ll try to make some civil crafts too. I was thinking on the shark's fins or something similar, maybe i need to make them bigger, to give the ship a "fish" aspect. will work on that thanks

    The Syrinx

    Here's my ship/underwater community...

Named the Syrinx after the extremely large but delicate shell (link to pic below). The ship moves slowly in deep water, travelling in some of the earth's deepest natural trenches. The expansive viewing dome provides an excellent viewing space to some of the world's strangest creatures: the trandsparent but deadly deep sea life.

hey, my first IDW. I was just wondering how the whole final presentation layout is supposed to look as well as quantity. One huge say.. 2000x1500 image with all my sketches and renderings; OR maybe 5 1000x800 (just random sizes) images with different vehicles on each? Or is it all pretty open and free regarding the layouts and quantity?

    thx in adv

dsg: The overall layout, quantity and presentation is mostly up to you. However, for the final entry in the Final Burning thread (which I'll put up soon) there will be a few guidelines: 1 post per entrant, no limit to image sizes other than the size limit that the server allows, and a maximum of 5 uploaded images per post. Scrolling sideways should be avoided. We might request people to add a thumbnail to their post for in the poll itself as well, it'll save us some work

When you say 5 uploaded images per post, is this final burning for all five weeklies or does that mean we're allowed to make 5 finals per category?

Naomi Ningishzidda: There will be a Final Burning thread for each single activity. This means that you can upload 5 images in one post per activity.

Loads of ships here... I am thinking to do more of machinery to keep the city going here...would that be okay? It would be my first IDW so Im not 100% familiar with the rules on what industrial design is in this weekly (I _do_ know what industrial design is professionally, since I study it, but somehow I think you're not after door-knobs and designed casings for miniature engines and so forth).

Studio Colrouphobia: Well, if you could make that interesting enough to show it go right ahead Basically, IDW can be a lot of things but most people tend to stick with things like ships etc. If you're talking about giant machines embedded into the seafloor you might consider EOW too, but that's up to you. If it really belongs somewhere else I'll let you know

I DW is way more than ships
tools, stuff for daily life. Air compresor should your inhabitants need air preathers. Harness for steeds, personal flotation devices. mechanical communcation methods, harvest machinery, musical instruments. how about a calliope..... how would you hear it underwater?
water purifiers. something as simplas a a dinner plate... how do you keep the food from floating away?
current driven water mills, for power generation
thermal catchers. for warmth ans light. personal lighting devices. etc etc etc. sacred vessels.
    STUFF!!!!
To see the world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour.

Here's some DEEP stuff from the past week. I would have been more productive but I had some kind of killer flu bug that zapped my strength (it wasn't that dramatic... but there was a lot of snot). I won't go into all the boring details here, but I've thought up a story based around deep sea fishermen who hunt endangered, giant squid-like creatures for their precious, precious ink. So this first batch of thumbnails is for the vehicles these guys use to catch the squidies (which are many times the size of the craft, of course). With the two more finished designs I have a rough idea of how they work but will flesh out the one I decide to go with even further to show how various bits work (the blue craft has detachable 'lure' pods that are can be piloted separately to ensnare the creatures' tentacles, for instance). I want to take one more of the thumbnails to this level of detail and then, like I say, finish the chosen design up all proper, like.

I want to cover a number of ID pieces ('dry' suits for the ocean dwelling civilization to use out of water, the machinery that the 'ink' is put to use in, vehicles used by ocean dwellers etc.) and also to do a bunch of character stuff (which I've just started on) and maybe an environment or two,as well. There's also the matter of the squid-thing itself but I might just hint at that in silhouette. I guess I'll just see what I can do in the time I've got.

    EDIT June 18th

Not had a great deal of time for this in the past week but here's another bit of industrial design. The idea with this piece is that the underwater natives use vehicles (Dry Suits) like this to travel around colonised human (aka, dry) areas. There are propellers in the feet but they're not very visible.

    Cheers, Nick.

Cheers for the encouraging words, folks!

robogabo: that means a hell of a lot coming from an artist of your calibre. I just checked out your most recent updates on page 1 - awesome stuff. I really like the oxygen refuge contraption and that deep sea mecha is great, too.

imworlds: Yeah, I do use 3d in mocking these up, which I know will probably count against me when it comes to judging, but I just see it as a tool like any other that concept artists are getting great results from (moreover though, my perspective drawing is terrible).

Here's a quick gif of the yellow guy:

I've been doing some character stuff for DEEP but I'm back working on some more ID stuff now. Update later this week, hopefully.

    Ta, Nick.
