    Challenge! Mad Scientist

I may be new to forum but I have been wondering why noone has made a mad scientist and if they have I can't find one.

    1) deadline May 29 (I know a little short for a really good one but I might extend)

2)PM me your entry and include name of sculpt if you have one.

    3) I will post my 5 fav sculpts and post a poll

    4) both sculpts and 3d models are welcome

any more info needed just post + and you are incouraged to post WIP pics

I hope people actually try and do this it would be cool thanks

So, how does this work? Do I name the sculpt before I start it? Or, do I sculpt it, post pics by the 29th, tell you about it and hope that you mention it?

I've got something pretty nifty in mind for a sculpt.

Gotcha. I will be working on it. I'm doing sculpt based on one of the characters in my book that fits the bill.

I'm doing creator owned stuff lately, and in my book there's a character that kind of fits the bill. It will be more than just the character, there'll be some diorama stuff involved.

Hey Tommy, this may not be the right place to ask this but how do you get such hard smooth shapes? Do you sand it down or something. Also what kinda clay are you using? Anyhoo, I seen your site and you have some great work goin on, good job.

It really depends on the material. Apoxie Sculpt is my medium of choice. That's a lot of sanding my friend, a lot of sanding.

    Now that is pretty spiffy.

Unfortunately, I will be working on mine a while longer, and can't make the deadline. It's actually a bit more involved than my monster sculpt, as in my book, the Mad Scientist in question created him and others.

I really don't offer much in the way of critiques. People should find their own style, and their own comfort zone. Hitting a ceiling is what happens when you haven't tried something new. Buy some new tools. That usually helps.

that makes alot of sense, I think I will start sculpting with different clay, and try some new tools. Oh by the way, you should see about making a sanding tutorial, I cant find any good sanding lessons. Maybe on your website or something. I would pay to get a handle on sanding.

    A Sanding tutorial?

When I get to doing something like that, I'll have run out of other things to talk about.

Getting things smooth isn't hard, it's just time consuming. If you can sand a board, you can sand a sculpture. It's just the sandpaper, or abrasive you use.

hey sorry I havn't been on in a while hooked on World of Warcraft lol but to answer your question (name forgotten) guy with dog avatar you can click on my name and send it to me personaly. And tommy you can ignore deadline because you are the only person who showed an early intrest and I dont care that much just tell me when your done.

What you do, is get an Imageshack or some other photo hosting account. Then embed the images in the PM. It's easy.

x...very nice interesting concept, and execution...i've been lurking here for the entire time this challenge has been going on. are the no other entries? this was a cool idea, but gemlock as the one who laid down the gauntlet where is your mad scientist? i wanted to give this a try, but i'm new and the deadline seemed a bit short, however there was only one person that actually made the deadline anyway. maybe next time...

My sculpt aint here because I dont want my ass kicked and feel free to try and make one because my deadline is flexible (srry if people want to see winner) so just make up a deadline you think you can make and I will see if its doable.

the whole point of this is a learning process right? have no fear gemlock only an @$$ would shred your work... i am a noob too, so i know the fear of hearing bad news. i think that i might give this a shot after all. it might be fun. plus it'll give me a break from fully concentrating on my other sculpt...

Good point Mad, I know your new but you got to show your stuff and take cratiques and compliments as their given. If someone is over-board rude its usally because they are lacking in talent them selves. Be brave and share thats what we are here for.

I am nearing the end of my Mad Scientist sculpt, but I'm way over the line. Have about a half dozen things happening in the studio that are taking me away from my fun stuff.

I am always amazed at the inventiveness of people's minds. I entered a Mad scientist jam once and my piece looked sooo ordinary, almost lame. Xynotx, that is a cool concept. A scientist so Mad that he experimented on himself to the point of Insanity. Love how you designed the base into his body. And are those pieces of his hair he combed over to hide the bald spots, which happens to be the entire head? Too funny!

Tommy - I think that post with the Tarzan thing is some sort of Spam. Weird!
