    Looking for a mentor

Hello, I am looking for a mentor... I am 17 years old and next year I would like to go to the Architecture Faculty so I need to practice drawing. I am beginner for now, but trying to be better

My sketchbook is here http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=124772 and my MSN contact is [email protected]

    Thank you in advance!

Hey there. I am currently an Architect student in second year. Sadly i cant take on more mentees then i got atm. But some tips is to show general drawing skills and that you have imagination. You dont realy need to apply with a portfolio filled up with architecture work. When i applied for first year i had 0 art experience. I applied with some graphical design + a few bad paintings and a couple of sketches i had done. Most likely if your portfolio isent top notch you will have to do an interview to present yourself. But it all comes down to what school and in what country you apply, many different acceptence ways.

hehe bad reply from me, didnt answer much, sorr

No problem, maybe somebody else can be my mentor?

When I go to the Architecture Faculty, on the first basic test I will need to draw. Because of that, I need practice but that don't need to be only the architectural drawings, you are right for that

By anyway, I would like to have somebody to help me getting into this... I have a lot of time and I can work a lot, it is not problem for me

Maybe you should contact someone yourself instead of waiting for people to randomly stumble upon this thread?
Check out sketchbooks with nice architectural drawings and then PM several people asking if they might want to mentor you.

    Love
    Marleen.

Huh, nobody again... I also found that I need to learn something more that the architectural drawings. On test I will have organic and figure drawing, so I also need to draw that.

I will rename this thread, hope it will be somebody that can mentor me in something other that the architecture.

In recent weeks, I've been looking in on this mentoring forum. There seems to be a pattern where people with no other posts on the site, or very few, post here looking for a mentor.

When they don't get an immediate response they seem to abandon the thread.

I'd suggest that, aside from a specific mentor, there's a great deal to be learned here at CA from reading around, and listening to advice given to others, as well as paying attention to the advice given to yourself.

    Huh, nobody again...
Look again in the post above yours -

That was a good piece of advice. (You seemed to be ignoring? - or perhaps had just missed? - the fact that she'd posted at all).

Several people, both in this thread and in your sketchbook thread, have suggested you need to learn perspective. So, go to the search window:
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/search.php
search for the keyword perspective in titles of posts, show results as threads

    like this:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sea...=&imagestamp=& (just hit the "search now" button)

and there are 9 pages of threads on the subject of perspective. Choose the ones that look most promising, read, apply what you have read to some new drawings, and post them in your sketchbook.

    How about proportions:

    anatomy:

    Bargue drawings:

Think about it from the potential mentor's point of view - mentoring takes time and effort - someone mentoring wants to see evidence that the student is going to get as far as they can by themselves, be prepared to work and be resourceful, show initiative - 17 is old enough to be treated as a young adult, not a kid - a mentor shouldn't be having to spoonfeed someone with information that's already readily available. (please understand I'm not criticising you personally - I'm making a general point here). I'd suggest the mentoring role is more to do with helping put the information together, get someone over any "bumps in the road" - nudges in the right direction.
