    John Berkey Passes

John Berkey passed away last night, after a long illness. I wish I had the eloquence to say say what Berkey has done for SF art as a genre and illustration as whole. Taking a look at these boards, and others like them, it is clear that he is a direct influence on what is going on right this minute with today's young artists...It's as if the art world has just caught up with him.

    OMG

John Berkey has been a favorite of mine since before I even knew who he was. His cover of "Our Universe" captivated me beyond words as a child. Its kinda weird, but over the last couple of days I've been going around the web making a folder of his paintings for study...that kinda freaks me out alittle.

It's so sad. He's been one of my favourites and I have dozens of his paintings. His style is unmatched.

One of my all time favorite books. I used to stare at that thing for hours at my grandparents house.

Check out the books "Painted Space" and "The Art of John Berkey." Painted Space has short paragraphs written by him about each painting, mostly his great spaceship designs. There's more art and info in the other one.

    I missed this thread

I think I'd rather I hadn't have seen it. Too many icons falling away lately, it seems.

    loved his work...

i remember getting some big book that was an atlas to space, it had his work on the cover i believe and really fueled a ton of my youth's imagination.
