Some old stuff mixed with some new stuff. (In chronological order.)

    Please leave a critique. Thanks!

    self portrait

hi, Ron. I guess that the first drawing is the self portrait. I like it and i'm especially interested in asian face but you seem to have the same problem i do. The eyes in the portrait are a symbol more than anatomical eye. The other two portraits have normal eyes but this one is symbolic.Did you intend to do that?
You can visit my thread ethnic faces(Fine arts, studies, discovery) and give an opinion on my asian faces.I would appreaciate that.

@elenaM: I think that the eyes in my self-portrait are a little off, unintentionally. Since I had to lean back to look in the mirror when I was drawing myself, the actual inclination is much more subtle.

I'm trying a new style with a greater use of hard edge texture brushes. Meanwhile, I'm still studying anatomy on paper.

More environ. Unfinished, will repost it when done. There's supposed to be a sanctuary in the foreground.

I want to achieve a mystical ambiance. The value paintings of lakes helped quite a lot.

I got accepted in that amateur game dev team as environment concept artist

My first job is to paint the desert sceneries. I couldn't grasp the form yesterday and got frustrated. Here's another attempt.

I think it might help you to take your colour images and change them into greyscale. You'd be surprised at what it looks like in terms of value. Studies are also great. Personally, the car in post 2 is one of the best images here because you can tell that you spent time looking at it. No, it's not perfect, but you tried and it really shows.

@Pixie: Thanks a lot for dropping by. For the car, I got so frustrated after failing at drawing it that I did a quick quick study of automobiles on another page. I shall pay more attention and observe the subject even further before drawing it. About the values, I found out that my color works need more contrast. Thanks for pointing that out.

I changed a color painting into greyscale, and I figured out that the entrance's value is too similar to the sky. I lightened up the sky so that there would be more contrasts.

I feel bad for not posting often enough time to tackle hands. Also I've started taking drawing art classes on Sunday. That's a good 2 hours of studies and learning per week.

you're improving just keep going. remember to work and practise on one thing at a time. this helped me a lot: slice problems into little pieces like learning to draw the torso - not all at one but muscle for muscle and bone for bone

    cheers

The portraits are real life studies I did Thursday, on a school trip to Quebec City. There are always artists who are doing portraits for a price in the Old City. I just had to ask them if I could borrow their model while they're working. That was the most interesting part of the trip. I gave some change to the Peru dude. He was cool. Imagine that a live model only costs 50 cents. Doing standing life studies is hard.

I'll probably CG the last piece. It's way too dirty on paper.

I really like your gesture drawings. I think it's really important to have a lot of rhythm in the figure. Your doing a great job in sketching heads and figures. I had a hard time with head drawings before. The face offers a lot of challenge when drawing. Keep up the good work and keep sketching!
