Hello, this is my sketcbook. I welcome all feedback and criticism. Included in this will be current life drawings, train sketches, coffee doodles, and whatever else was put on to paper with intentional and unintentional thought.

The first one is a boy clumsily running across a rooftop.

The second one is a light bulb turned robot, inspired by Batteries Not Included.

This is a monster named Berlin. He belongs to a small boy during a time of war. He is still in the works, but this is the basic outline of him. He was spawned from the child's imagination during a time of trouble. He is a very nice creature that when provoked can become extremely hostile. His main goal is to protect his friends.

This is my first life drawing in two years. I have a lot to work on, and this is the beginning to a series of drawings. I decided to participate in this open class to work on my understanding of the human form, proportion, and line.

This is something I drew on the way into work on Monday. My goal is to get used to using shapes for character design.

very cool stuff so far. I will say on your next model study be more aware around the arm area. The proportions and translation from upper arm to elbow to lower arm and wrist seem a little off.

I do love that Berlin character, ^_^ I would not mind animating a character design like him.

The first part of this post is an assignment where I was supposed to capture as much information from the given photo. I decided to use photoshop as my medium in order to refine and practice this new found painting tool. It is a rough, but I think I did a decent job. With more time I would have cleaned up my line work and added more tonal gradation.

The second part of this post are three caricatures based on the bowler hat man. I put the references away and drew three shape caricatures from memory. The first was a rectangle, the second a diamond, and the third a half-circle.

The third part of this post are some silhouettes for two characters I'm working on. The taller one is a thief that steals from any and all government facilities. The shorter one is his normal state. The shorter one is a little boy, about the age of 8, that goes to a run down school and lives in a very big family. After being given a magick potion by a wondering ascetic the boy transforms into his rebellious counterpart, the thief.

These hand studies were drawn on the train on my way to work and back this past week. I would have to say that by the end of the week I started becoming more comfortable with drawing my hand. My experience is in 3d animation, and unfortunately I was not given the proper foundation for the the human figure; but I'm working on it!

Just keep doing them, that's how I kinda got better...somewhere along the line it just clicks into place.

Great hand studies! Especially the last two. Some great challenging angles you choose to draw.

When you are getting bit more comfy with the hands you should start blocking areas in for lighting. Don't start by hardcore shading right away, just start by drawing real faint shapes, or planes if you will, within your hands that encompass shadows and highlights. Then shade those in. Figuring out the planes of any object really helps in learning how lights affects things.

These were done today on the train. It was fun drawing the ears of people sitting around me. It involved a lot of nonchalant observations and drawing from memory. I can't wait to draw tomorrow morning!

Here are two studies of the human skeleton - the first is the skull and the second is the spine. These were directly copied from a book due to lack of figure drawing classes and or workshops in my area. I have been trying to incorporate this knowledge into all my drawings.

Here is a character I simply call witch that I'm working on, an Indian man telling a story, and another man waiting to give his ticket to the conductor.

Just keep up the life drawing and using references.
Alot of your 'made up' anatomy has character, but is just not quite there yet.

Just keep practising the realistic stuff, so your own originals will get stronger.

Like SEVANS said, you've got a great sense of how to distort things to give them character. I'd love to see more face and body types thrown in, too, to get a real "menagerie" going. That last post with the freaky girl and the two dumpy guys is a good start, but I think you've got enough imagination for pages and pages of weirdos.
