    crown's sketchbook

the originality of that title...it hurts...

anyhow, after being nagged for months to set one of these things up, I finally have, though no guarantees any of it will be all that spectacular, and surely not all of it will be good, but hopefully it will at least be worth taking a few seconds to look at...

as for me, I'm a twenty-year-old artist just trying to to reach a point where I can be happy and confident with my art, and hopefully there will be signs of improvement as this thing progresses...
should be able to update daily or close to it...

to start this off, here's a collection of some of my favourite pieces from old sketchbooks...mediums vary from pencil to ink to ballpoint pen...

all critiques and comments are much appreciated!

almost forgot this, though it's one of the most massive things i've yet attempted, taking up six alternate pages in my sketchbook...done with micron pens and so much work...
there's an even bigger version of it here: http://theumbrella.deviantart.com/ar...athan-71952979 if anyone's interested...

Thank god Ashley, finally. Haha! I kid, i kid. It's interesting that you posted almost all of my favorites of your work, but I'm a little disappointed that the Prince and his crown aren't in there. You know how much I love that picture, but whatever. Let me know when you're ready to go sketching tonight! I seriously can't wait for it

    FUCK YES!
I love your work on devART and I'm glad to see your sketchbook!
I hope we get to see the sketches behind your work instead of just the stuff you post on dA.

Wow I envy your lines. They're beautiful!
My only complaint is that there isn't more. Post more!

Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -Douglas Adams

alright, fell a bit behind, but really, as of today, should be posting new stuff everyday...so i hope...

here's a bit of a WIP shot of a picture i'm slowly developing in one of my sketchbooks...if all goes well, it will spread out quite a bit more, and be tedious but worthwhile...
also, an experiment i did wth my first try with powdered graphite...hopefully will see more of that around too...
    enjoy!

Splendid work. Looking forward to more.

alright quick update, i'll try to reply to all the comments and stuff tomorrow, and post something that actually looks good, not just rough sketches...

so first, a sneak peak at the rough sketch for some album art i've been commissioned to do (always open for more!)...if anyone's interested, i'll post the other progress shots as i scan them, since i do scan many...it is terribly rough at this point in time, but hopefully will be refined to a state where i can be proud of it...
and an old little doodle of the plague doctor, who i don't draw enough of...
    enjoy!

    a few replies...
CrissCross: heheh good to be recognized, i guess...and yes, there will definitely be alot of other stuff other than what's on dA, not that it will necessarily be good stuff, but it will be different...
hm2k: no i don't do anything professionally, as much as i'd like to...just a bit of freelancing here and there, but otherwise still trying to build myself to the point where i can support myself profesionally...
i didn't reply to everyone, but i read all the posts and i really do appreciate all the wonderful comments...

so with that all said, have some more art!
first there is the man with piano teeth, whose been sitting in my head for the longest time and finally worked, after i tried at least four different versions of him...i know moosekleenex over on deviantart was going to attempt him as well, so we'll see if that works out...
then a quick self-portrait in photoshop, just to show how terrible my haircut is...and how short it is right now...grow hair grow...

    Hey! Found ya! </madgeneticist>

One thing I might suggest-- for your album cover, maybe arch the spine a bit more, try to push that imposing look as much as possible?

that depends, which ones do you want to paint?
it would probably be fine, as long as you give me credit for the lines, but i'd still like to know which you're interested in...
    thanks!

i absolutely love ur linework. my favorite has to be the 6 page piece. I love work that doesn't fall into the conventional little square we are used to seeing (and doing). Great great work

spysheep: thanks! it took so much work i almost didn't make it, but i think it was worth it in the end...and thanks for the comment, your works kill!
    ------------------------------------------------------------------>
just finished this yesterday, thought it would be interesting to post the sketch with the final work...always find it interesting to see the difference, not that i usually change things between my final pencils and my inks...
supposedly it's a kirin, rough equivalent of a chinese unicorn...i have another sketch of it in the works, but this is all for now...
final version done with ballpoint and white gouache...

so i'm really so terrible at this game...
i just have been horrifically despondent and unable to produce any art...so here's a piece that's in the works, and a quick photoshop doodle of a heron, to prove that I'm still alive and trying, just not very good at either...
