    My sketchbook :)

    Hello everyone!

My name is Robin, im from sweden 22 years old. Im going to applay for uni in Sweden, Gamedesign and graphics. So i have been looking around here and at some other places and i just love to see the drawings and concepts and wanna try and make my own!

I started drawing a few weeks ago ago or so, and im gonna try and keep up drawing daily. And hopefully with some help from this awsome forum and bridgman and some other drawing books i will improve.. sooner or later
This place is what gave me the inspiration to try and learn how to draw. I have been trying before but never seriously.

Anyways critice my pictures im a complete noob and need all the feedback i can get.
I just need to know were to start and what to look for and so on

PS: Sorry about the quality on my pictures, my scanner broke down so im using a worthless atm

    Welcome to CA.org Xerotin

Keep practicing everyday for however long it takes and you'll eventally get better.

The Angel of Death picture needs a bit of work, the anatomy isn't that good, but since you've only started drawing, it's no biggie. You did a helluva lot better than I did when I was only 1 month into my serious drawing stage.

My first bit of advice would be to go to some Life Drawing lessons - since you're in Sweden that wouldn't be much of a problem (I know of a lady in my figure drawing class in Hong Kong that's moving to Jakarta soon, and as is quite obvious, being a Muslim country, nude figure drawing classes are going to be all but nigh impossible).

Second, try having a look at some of Michael Mentler's works and sketchbooks here on conceptart.org, they're a treasure trove of information. I basically learned to draw my figures by envisioning the simpler masses of the form first. Oval (Or edge for the rib cage), rectangular cube for the pelvis, ovoid for the head, and cylinders for the limbs.

Here's an example that I've attached, a quick demo on how I draw the figure.

Anyway, good luck with your future CA.org career

    Best regards.

Thanks for the tips Rabbi, i went over to a friend of mine and borrowed a book i knew he had, "how to draw manga, next generation". It was pretty useful, i has some good poses, expressions and so on excercises. Here are the first few i tried out. Please feel free to comment i want to know what's important for me to improve, thanks

    Hello
Try doing alot of poses with fast clean lines , no detail. And i realy mean many many poses and get a anatomy from somewhere so you can redraw stuff from there too.Its a good way to begin. And you should do it daily.
Well thats my advice and thats what im currently on .It works for me.

    Good luck.

Yo, thanks for checking out my book. Hands are my weakness, so I'm glad you liked my latest ones.

But yeah, I'll just throw you one little piece of advice, and that's to stay away from the 'how to draw manga' books. You need a foundation in reality before you start drawing in a style like anime, and those books will only mess up your idea of what the human body looks like and slow down your progress.

You said you snagged an anatomy book from somewhere, though, so that's excellent. Stick to that one, give the manga one back to your friend.

To often I see alot of beginners leaning towards manga because it is easier and the human body is intimidating. My advice to you is don't worry about how your drawings look at first, keep drawing. Don't let anatomy scare you. You will improve with time.

Nice start, I'm glad that you had made muscles studies, but you schould also make some bone studies and keep in mind, that 1.)Manga is potent style, but the problem is, that too many fresh artists stick to this style and doesn't make any progress (think about mayority of manga stuff at DeviantART...) 2.)try to draw people' bodies as 3D shapes.

    Hey,

Great start you've got here. I like your hand studies the best, oddly enough. My best advice for you (seeing as I'm a newb too ) is to keep drawing from life or at least picture refs, so you don't get stuck in a rut. Good luck.
