Awesome stuff Skoda, The diversity you are going for is great. Now you're making me have to go dust off the cobwebs on all my traditional materials!
I like sketch book. But i like yours a lot more.
heck i would swap my cheque book for your sketch book.
Still loving the work. I think if you want to, I can definitely see you becoming a comic book artist. That said, keep the sketchbook painting coming!
These comic strips caugt me instantly. They're grrrreat!
The combination of seeing your Swamp Thing painting along with you mentioning that you were trying acrylics leads me to make this suggestion:
If you haven't look into Basil Gogos yet, I think you'd like him. He worked mostly in acrylic on illo board and masterfully used a ton of bright colors in his work.
p.s. Thanks for coming by my book, means a lot to me!
BRINKMAN!: I looked up Basil Gogos and he's awesome! Thanks for pointing me his way. His color and lighting is defiantly really neat. By the way, I'm still dying to know how the new shoes turned out.
Wasker: Thanks! I'm still a bit insecure about by comics stuff so that means a lot.
Glassjaw: Thanks! Like I just told Wasker, that means a lot to me.
The Gurch: You got a deal! I only ask that you sign all the blank checks and in exchange, I'll sign every page in my sketch book.
Porkchop: Thanks!
jMarkus: Thanks! That was really fun and the stewardess was like "Can I get you an extra soda!" I was actually inspired by James Jean's awesome airport drawings (His are a lot better than mine). Check them out here: http://www.processrecess.com/index.php?uid=A72BEB and http://www.processrecess.com/_fullsi...469_detail.JPG
[LITTLE-FEET]: Thanks!
Here's some from this weekend. I thought I'd try taking photos to see if the presented the sketchbook better. I think I prefer scans.
Great Work Man! Seen you're drawing coloured Pencils now! Colours remind me of the old children boox i used to see![]()
OK, here's the scanned version of Cat Woman. The photo didn't work too well for me.
man that cat womans nice!
oh and id give you the deed to my house for your sketchbook.
I love your works! especially the ones with brush pen!
thank you for your kind crit and comment on my sketchbook. I would return the favor, but I see nothing to crit! XD
Sketchbook please! http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=204442
I saw you flew to portland. I lived there my whole life growing up. I had a question about mixing for large areas of dense color. How do you do that? :> thanks
bakatron: It's a deal!
curry23: Thanks! Your stuff is really nice.
MonkeYoakum: Cool! Portland is really neat. I had never been there before and I can't wait to go back. As far as mixing water colors go, (and I know this sounds overly simple) I try to use a bigger brush. That way I can load it up with more color and more water and mix more paint. However, I think the more important thing is to not worry about matching the color exactly. Try mixing small batches and let them run together on the paper. I like to work fast and I really like the way different colors will run together, making new colors that I would not have come up with otherwise. I'm also trying to avoid large areas of flat color because that hardly ever happens in the real world. I hope that answers your question.
These are from a pretty old book of mine. I was thumbing through it this morning and I thought the Homer Simpson stuff was pretty funny. I guess I was trying to do a more realistic version. It's some serious nerd shit.
Great sketchbook. You know Chris Ware's work?
Yeah. My sketch books used to be page after page of unfinished half heads. I kind of looked at sketch books as a way to save doodles. Then I picked up the Acme Novelty Date Book! That guy is a genius. I used to look at every freaking day. It totally changed the way that I approach my sketch books. I spend more time trying to get a finished pieces in my books now. And trying to focus ideas into something tangible. I owe that guy a lot.
I love your RL (Real Life) of Homer Simpson its fricken awesome.
This account is dead but my sketchbook holds in it my humble beginnings
☠ SKETCHBOOK ✎ NEW SKETCHBOOK
Great tip, seems like a no brainer your right. Should I worry about keeping my little cubes of color pure? Or can I take brown and mix it over yellow. I dont want to screw myself over in the end. hmm maybee I should pick up a watercolor book. Thanks for posting old stuff, its a great way to see how you have improved. I can relate to your old level, so it gives me inspiration to keep working and achieve, thanks.
I love Chris Ware too. I love the way he plays with the conventions of sequential art in and of themselves...like clever design elements that treat standard pieces of the comic page in clever ways.
Great stuff. Love the Homer work and the cat woman.
And a big fan of the illustrations.
Thanks for posting your work, and I hope to see more soon.

You've got one of those insane, retro-feel, styles that I've been working towards. Your inking is my favorite part, it's so smooth and fluid, but I'm also really really loving your lettering. Defiantly subscribing.
Nice drawings. The texture and composition of your sketchbook are great! Sketch on!

It's funny, I ask myself that same question sometimes : If Homer Simpson was a real man, how he'd look like? Hahaha!
Glad to see you are concerned by stupid questions like me!
Excellent work!

yes they are they awesome, beautiful/inspiring
My sketchbook
remmy: Thanks. It's always a fun exercise.
MonkeYoakum: I don't really worry about keeping my little pans clean. It hasn't ever been a problem for me. There are people (lots of whom are much better than me) who make sure that their brush is clean and keep a jar of clean water and a jar of dirty water and all that stuff. But I got too much to worry about already...
BRINKMAN!: I know what you mean. He really pushes the boundaries of the medium. Sometimes it's exhausting just thinking about how much work goes into one of his pages.
Ash888: Thanks!
lufiamanaelf: Thanks! Over the past few years I've really started to study dudes like Milton Caniff and Jack Kirby. I thinks it's been a big influence.
Deodatus: Thanks!
Clochette: These are NOT stupid questions! What a real life Homer Simpson would look like is the most important question of our generation! I'm still struggling with what Lisa Simpson's hair would look like.
Gerbil Fetus: Thanks!
I gotta give a shout out to my good friend Chad who just gave me this tattoo on my forearm: http://bp2.blogger.com/_9Ch0UgdfCgs/...TylerTiger.jpg I didn't draw it I just Art DirectedHere's his blog: http://www.h0ldf4st.blogspot.com/
And here's a new one:
Really killer stuffs.
Good question about Homer Simpson
Well, I just admire all of your works in your sketchbook. I once had a friend that told me I should use moleskin sketchbooks and have seen him do sketches in it. It has such a great surface.
I've never tried water colors and usually stick to pencil, oils and digital but you've inspired me to give it a try.
Subscribed to your sketchbook. And yeah, I can see you as a professional comic artist!
Keep up the.. im planning on starting myself too.

Any advice for controling value while mixing? When you mix is it mostly water and you wash it on? Then either let it dry, or work wet to blend. And What kind of paper is in that sb your using. I think a lot of the problem Im having is im working on printer paper like a chump. Thanks for the help.
spookybabydoll: Thanks!
FabianV: Yeah Moleskines are awesome. And thanks for the vote of confidence about comics!
Clochette: That Lisa is the funniest thing ever! HA! I'll have to try my own this weekend. The character that I'm also wondering about is Moe.
MonkeYoakum: I try to avoid doing many thin washes. It generally just makes the image kind of blurry and weird. I prefer to mix my colors a little bit on the dark side and then getting some water on my brush and thinning it on the paper. That way the color tends to be a lot stronger.
Here's my current supervisor making sure that I don't slack off:
Man... you got some serious talent..
