The combination of seeing your Swamp Thing painting along with you mentioning that you were trying acrylics leads me to make this suggestion:
If you haven't look into Basil Gogos yet, I think you'd like him. He worked mostly in acrylic on illo board and masterfully used a ton of bright colors in his work.

BRINKMAN!: I looked up Basil Gogos and he's awesome! Thanks for pointing me his way. His color and lighting is defiantly really neat. By the way, I'm still dying to know how the new shoes turned out.

MonkeYoakum: Cool! Portland is really neat. I had never been there before and I can't wait to go back. As far as mixing water colors go, (and I know this sounds overly simple) I try to use a bigger brush. That way I can load it up with more color and more water and mix more paint. However, I think the more important thing is to not worry about matching the color exactly. Try mixing small batches and let them run together on the paper. I like to work fast and I really like the way different colors will run together, making new colors that I would not have come up with otherwise. I'm also trying to avoid large areas of flat color because that hardly ever happens in the real world. I hope that answers your question.

These are from a pretty old book of mine. I was thumbing through it this morning and I thought the Homer Simpson stuff was pretty funny. I guess I was trying to do a more realistic version.

Yeah. My sketch books used to be page after page of unfinished half heads. I kind of looked at sketch books as a way to save doodles. Then I picked up the Acme Novelty Date Book! That guy is a genius. I used to look at every freaking day. It totally changed the way that I approach my sketch books. I spend more time trying to get a finished pieces in my books now. And trying to focus ideas into something tangible. I owe that guy a lot.

Great tip, seems like a no brainer your right. Should I worry about keeping my little cubes of color pure? Or can I take brown and mix it over yellow. I dont want to screw myself over in the end. hmm maybee I should pick up a watercolor book. Thanks for posting old stuff, its a great way to see how you have improved. I can relate to your old level, so it gives me inspiration to keep working and achieve, thanks.

I love Chris Ware too. I love the way he plays with the conventions of sequential art in and of themselves...like clever design elements that treat standard pieces of the comic page in clever ways.

MonkeYoakum: I don't really worry about keeping my little pans clean. It hasn't ever been a problem for me. There are people (lots of whom are much better than me) who make sure that their brush is clean and keep a jar of clean water and a jar of dirty water and all that stuff. But I got too much to worry about already...

BRINKMAN!: I know what you mean. He really pushes the boundaries of the medium. Sometimes it's exhausting just thinking about how much work goes into one of his pages.

Well, I just admire all of your works in your sketchbook. I once had a friend that told me I should use moleskin sketchbooks and have seen him do sketches in it. It has such a great surface.

I've never tried water colors and usually stick to pencil, oils and digital but you've inspired me to give it a try.

Any advice for controling value while mixing? When you mix is it mostly water and you wash it on? Then either let it dry, or work wet to blend. And What kind of paper is in that sb your using. I think a lot of the problem Im having is im working on printer paper like a chump. Thanks for the help.

MonkeYoakum: I try to avoid doing many thin washes. It generally just makes the image kind of blurry and weird. I prefer to mix my colors a little bit on the dark side and then getting some water on my brush and thinning it on the paper. That way the color tends to be a lot stronger.
