Nice update, cute character. One question why you make your character flat with color ?

Hey yin, flat color is what cartoons do!
More OUTKATZ!
Tune in next time...
Hey cout>mecha, crazy sketchbook you've got hereYour animation studies look great, you've mapped out alot of really nice key poses. Really great to see someone doing things in a WB style as well... if I had any suggestions it would that you should try some more curvilinear gestures and such. Your quick sketches are great and you've got nice form to them, but as you know a lot of time in animation the gesture of an individual pose can matter much more than the anatomy of that pose. I would like to see some more line variation as well, but I saw you mentioned earlier on that you are hoping to work on that within a more vectorized program. Keep working at it either way though man, lookin good!
Mecca!! Cool update cartoons weeee!! so great, so zany! So Happy life is with Cartoons!!!!! Thanks! K

Not sure what you mean by line variation. Perhaps I've yet to learn that Onir.
Kelly, always good seeing you here, sorry to digress but those sketches had been sitting there awhile and I figured it was time to do justice.
Bout to hit the sack. Gnite.

Save Us Ike!
Ike is the hurricane that has been approaching our part of the world for more than two days now said to have an unusually large eye. I am pretty far inland nonetheless, I hope they don't turn out our lights as I am working!
I've been animating little drawing from my sketchbook and put together this gif to plead with Ike to "save us!"
Ike was also the fearful husband of Tina Turner! So I guess they decided to come up with a name that would strike fear...

It's gettin windy out there!!!![]()
cout, are you in the general Texas area too? It's pretty safe where I am, just lots of wind and rain.
The new animation looks quite good. Having done a few orthos for model sheets, I can only imagine what a pain in the rear animating a guy turning must be. Your cartoon looks good, but the forms are getting lost in the crazy colorful background. Have you tried cell-shading? It might give your cartoon characters some extra depth
Keep up the good work!
Nice one !. like the turning part of the girl
Others, agreed with Nightblue
Like Ike
working on a little animation after the storm. Of course lights went out for day or so. This all from one sketch with some CG background stuff composited.
NB-thanks for droppin in. I find your diligence refreshing. Of course I hear things are nicer up north. Concerning cel shading, well that is an extra layer of depth. This head turn was one of the easier ones. The girl was more difficult with all the hair involved.
Yin-thanks again I never get tired of hearing good things from you and I hope I can inspire or help you with animation in some way.
This is the effect I wanted as per the original sketch...![]()
Oh well gotta keep rockin!![]()

I've "analyzed"a lot of fashion poses and materials of the female form in the past and figured I would post these studies. I try to capture the nomenclature of fashion so that I don't repeat myself and give me a good reference for animation and the like without being to artey fartey about it. Have not done the male and would appreciate if some wom would collect a series of poses found to be exiting in nature without having the scream.
Otherwise I will have to do it myself!

Hey K.Not quite sure what you were looking for in terms of animation. I hope I have not been mean to you in my posts. Did I take your Mistress of Loss...Perhaps...!I was just mentioning that it might be nice to get some feedback on the types male features you find attractive when you look at imagery. I know you paint a lot of females but I do need that.

Many moons on this one. Working on the animation technical stuff. Been thinking lately that it would be cool to have an animation challenge around here. I guess that would be an AOW!

Some Stills
This is as good as it gets with gif around here. I don't think the limits more than about 1 mb. I will upload a better version later and include the link in a post. Anyway this is a real rush job!
some good improvement here man. Keep it up and keep studying!

Hello again, I'm working on a 3D short called "Freeze" inspired by a sketch I made sometime ago,(about 2 yr). It's going to be sort of comedy as that works best with 3D, and really short. I figured it was time I SOLD OUT TO THE MAN! LOL! Anyway, should be cute cuddly fuzzy furry ect.![]()
![]()
I've modelled the body of the first character and am trying to finish the rest now. If anyone's interested I'll be putting together a few videos on how to make 3D from your sketches, although right now I'm without a mike. haha!
Also the dragon link is at the end of this post. Enjoy. Thanks for your kind words Pix, will be over to your thread for some inspiration!![]()

Freezerino...Render.
Freexe Render w/Radiosity + Ray Trace
Push all the the render buttons on this one
and the render time was about 6 minutes.
That's pretty nice for my system. None of this
stuff has textures, and think that might be
to much. Not really a texture guy, but I
wanted to try it a bit on this. Who knows...
Freexe Render w/Cel Shading
Just cel shading and outlines on this one.
Trying to get a feel for how this looks since
I will be incorperating some traditional
animation into it. I think the contrast
would be nice. Now I have to start animation.
I could stand a few comments as to your opinions concerning cel shade vs ray trace, or just general tweaks in the picture that I probably won't fix!
Getting Some Excercise
![]()
Trying a few excercises to beef up my drawing skills a bit before an interview.
I wanted to try a few different things to see just what the benefits of each
of these practices is/was when I was learning drawing.
Contour-This is probably one of the first things I learned when in school.
A continuous line contour drawing where your pencil does not leave the page
until you are finished. This creates discipline and patience in a medium where
the mind easily wanders onto other subjucts. : ) As your pencil wanders
across the page its not easy to make critical visual judgements with one
eye on the page, one eye on the drawing, and one eye on the visual! Also
did a little silouette to go with that...
Gesture-Forces you to think about gravity, movement, and placement in
a subconcious manner. It helps if you begin a figure with just one line
indicating the overarching average or positioning of the figure. With a little
experience drawing heads or faces its easy to measure the figural lines
against the average and give the drawing a bit of personality. This is also
a basic animation principal.
Geometry2D/3D-I tried a few methods of creating figures using geometry. I know most people find it orthodox to constrain themselves to just cilinders or squares, but that is just the beginning when you start in 2D, and the iceberg tip of what is required in 3D. I found that with 3D my placement and scaling of objects needed work, but in 2D depth perception was a bigger issue.
Drawing/Rendering-When drawing or rendering you will notice that unless a
visual is free of shadows, it may require many passes to understand the
expressions on on faces and where and when an object begins and ends.
You might be accurate but in real life it is difficult to read faces and see
things as they are moving.
Luminance/Negative Space-Really had a tough time with luminance. It more
patience then contour as you are forced to look at chunks of material in a
way that you would not normally see it. It helps to understand light sources
and the way they fall on various objects. I created a this with the idea that
the light was saturated to avoid making value judgements as most people
tend to do in their works here. Everyone is different. : ) Light seems to
only have meaning when their is movement, in this case, the movement of
your eye from one thing to the next.

Sorry no drawing 2D/3D vids yet, will have to do them over, and find a mike as will.
cool dude, free hand?? I see you on now...

Free Franzetta!!!
Heyas.
Well Kellx that is the thing, these gotta get support before they can be realized and done justice. The ideas are from my imagination and patience!Perhaps you will give me some ideas about what should happen in these animations you want so that I can fully supply you.
If you challenge me does that mean you will create an animation for this challenge!
Yin, thanks for giving some feedback on the dragonmation. There's plenty to be fixed there but it needs context. I had planned on getting more excersize though.Hope this stuff is of use to you as well.
Algenplfedger-nice to see you here and sure appreciate the complements. I'd love to see more animations/animators here as that is what we are here for at Concept in some form or another.
Haha! I appreciate you dropping by Nettle and I'm sure there will be some surprises for you as well. I'm starving!![]()
Working on a Sword swing animation to further test the possibilities.
It's made from a picture of a weightlifting guy and I've made 5 keys
for it thusly. It's sort of going to be like an animated Franzetta painting.
I'd kinda like some suggest as to what the guy may wear and
the kind of sord he would use, animation crits ect. ect. TIA!![]()
CROSS NAKED-PAPER MAKIN'-MONEY HOARDIN'-GREEN STEALIN'-PIGGY BANK BUSTIN'-NICKEL GRABBIN' GREED!!!
This was my first self head model in 99'. Hope you like it!

Working with LW again to create some speed comp/paintings since used
photoshop to do some experimenting with filters as well. Figured out its better
to use an adjustment layer than to mess up your workperhaps.
Here goes nothing!!!

SURVIVOR SERIES
I'm a survivor haha! This one is working on its connections right now. Want them to work in a fairly realistic manner, or at least look cool. Yep!

im totaly hocked on youre strange style with these intensive inverted colors ... its just awesome! your unique. 5 stars for that
pls keep posting ... lateman
Thanks for stopping by lateman. you are really burning up the pages over there. Not sure what I've done to get color on these as far as a method of say 'inversion' although that's the way I like to work. Get a lot of contrast. Just to show here's one straight outta the Lightwave modeler, an unrendered screenshot.
Adjustment layers are our friends!
As of late, i've been creating the junctions inside the head and on the neck of this S.U.R.V.I-3R. Have not rigged them but maybe you could tell me if it's been worth the effort to make them realistic....
Long way from finished as you can see...![]()
This is what im talking. Great modelling. Wanna see more
