FACE ( Studies of the Structure we call a face)

So it seems i didnt Fall to far behind in skill :/

I decided there Monday I'd draw a few friends faces to get reacquainted with my Tablet.
I chose my own color by looking at a guideline picture of the picture i was painting. and found out Eyes come out very easy.... when you spend about an hour on them . . .

The first one was a Valentines gift for a friend of mine, this took approx 4-5hours as i got lazy on the hair and shirt...

The Second, was a Longtime friend i drew on Valentines this took maybe 4-5 hours too.. (i was done in 2- 2.5 but spent the rest of the time trying to make her eyes look at a focal point properly .... and her FUCKING HAIR!

Noses are tough .... lips i got the hang of pretty quick and i multi colored hair i wanna throw my tablet away because of :/

I don't think your images are showing up. Try uploading them to CA and use the ATTACH tags.

    ...my humble and uneducated opinion.

Your images aren't showing up to me, either. (I could only see them by right-clicking the image and refreshing the URL).

For one, I'd suggest making studies of hair.

Hair typically falls in "clumps" that taper at the ends. Rather than drawing a "block" of hair and making messy erase marks at the ends, try making large sweeps of hair that naturally fall over eachother and have "gaps" in between the clumps.

Here's a tutorial that looks like it might help express what I'm saying.

You may also want to draw a grayscale on the sides of your images, so you know how far you can push your highlights and shadows. Currently, your images seem to be overwhelmingly composed of midtones. You can get much more contrast! Try desaturating your images in Photoshop and comparing it to black and white photographs - it's a good way of seeing where you need to push your values.

    Good luck!

    Why .PNGs instead of .JPEGs?

    The features are very blurry.

Too Big to upload to CA's uploader.

And i save as Jpegs then PNGs , i dont know personal preference?

also, alot of people say to try more tones but i dont know my brain isn't afraid but my conscience cuts in when there is too much contrast...

    thanks guys keep them coming.

I agree with Fireflights on contrast. You don't necessarily have to Caravaggio your values, but you should SHOULD have at least a little highlight with lots of blacks (low-key) or a little black with your whites (high-key). If you're looking for that lovely, gradual transition from light to dark that is not harsh at all, try looking at Rembrandt's portraits. They're awesome.
