The Art of JennyM (Update: 11/6/08) Sketches, digital works galore!

As I write this, I only joined this afternoon so I'm a newbie but I'm no rookie in the art realm. I sketched these first examples yesterday but I'll have more on the way, I hope you like animals!
These were refereced though and my first actual proper life drawing animals I've done in almost 2 years. I love these. My favourite is the deer, the deer jumping down was not referenced.
Feed back and constructive critisism is ALWAYS welcome!

Good works so far. You are good at animals, though i would like to see some people eventually. Also, you don't need to mark your work unless it's completed or used for something commercially by yourself. If you choose to do so anyway, please make it small so that it does not interfere with the art. Just a little heads up so that you can get the best possible feedback.

Oh yeah, those copyright labels are silly. You don't need to do this, look around and see that even the best artists don't do that

While the animals are decently drawn they are all cartoony, this is most obvious with the cat especially the one in the top left with the open mouth rawring.

Wooly - Yeah, I've been drawing since 2001 so I've come a long way since then. Thanks!

Stark - I'm going to try and borrow some Life Drawing books from the library because my school schedule is so busy I can't attend Life Drawing Classes. I have some old human figure drawings somewhere but I'll get these uploaded eventually.

n1va - I do appologise for those labels, seriously where I come from I've got it programmed that my artwork is vulnerable to theft (being a DA member, it's pretty common) I'm still new here so I'm learning this place fairly quickly. Hope this answers that section.
And about the cat, yes, admittingly I have a habit of drawing big cats fairly cartoony and it's a habit I'm trying to break out of. I've been drawing them like that for years, which is probably why the first two look more realistic.

I have no internet connection over the weekends (unless I go home to my family) so I won't be updating this for a few days, but hopefully by Monday you'll be seeing some new dumps.

Here's the next batch, OpenCanvas practicings, sorry about the watermarks folks. Again, your thoughts are very welcomed.

Cartoony isn't bad. I don't know why that would be a "problem" or anything. If it's your style, then go with it and take it somewhere new. I really like the cats. They have weight and look like they're moving. Very nice.

As for the watermarks...what's the point? Welcome to the digital age where music, movies and art are now public domain works. Creativity is no longer respected as intellectual property. If somebody wanted to steal these drawings bad enough, they'd pull them into PS and clone out the backgrounds or whatever needed to clean them up.

Anyway, I like your style and lighting quite a lot and hope to see more!

There's some really nice work there. I especially like the deer study and your style has such a nice flow that any mistakes you may make just disappear into the overall mood of your work.

Everyone might just have to put up with my style because it can get very cartoony sometimes, especially with my current school project.

Snubbed: Well, if you and everyone says it's ok to post artwork without watermarks, that's fine by me. Makes me feel safer, but is it really that annoying to look at?

Nice renderings, man but something is terribly wrong with the anatomy of the first leg of those dragons (and that creature called Ching), especially with the upper arm part if you know what I mean. Dragons are often drawn with feline anatomy so I think you should check out this picture for refernce.
I don't think that even an over-muscular creature (like a dragon) should look so different from this as you drew.

Nice sketchbook anyway, keep posting!

Sorry for the lack of updates guys, school's been holding me back and I have a Dissertation to submit in 2 weeks time. But thank you to everyone again who has taken the time to give me feedback

Novbert: When I did that first concept I didn't like the front legs, maybe it's because at the time I was working at A3 size in Photoshop, normally my judgement fails when working at that size. I appreciate you being honest though and that is a fabulous reference to that lioness you've given me.

Oh wow I really like those dragons, good job! Also I like the bear sketches.

I recall attempting to join da and seeing the disclaimers turned me off so that I never logged in there after registering. Every once in a while I've gone there for stock things but I really don't get why they operate the way they do.

Welcome to CA anyways, best place for 2d art imo!

You obviously have some experience in the art department, no doubt! Your creature designs are very nice, original and well done anatomy-wise. The Chinese ones are my favourite, they're so colourful and playful! Your humans aren't quite as strong, so maybe time to give them more attention? Still great stuff, looking forward to see more from you!

AsaB: Yeah I know about the humans. That's where I find I need to improve a little. I've drawn animals for way too long, I thought this place would help me get some variety into what I create. But I appreciate you for being so honest. Thank you!

Dreadfully sorry for the long absense, this is what schoolwork does to you.

Anyway, more updates with more work from my FMP: Lynn-Sow, my game idea.

These are just sketches of the main character in different poses, of which one of them I'm hopefully going to model in 3D. Enjoy! Feedback is appreciated!

More digital work.

This character is for a Games Design character on DA. We have to design characters or backgrounds for a game called "The World Ends With You", created by Square Enix.

So I thought this'll be the closest I'll probably ever get to working with them, so I did this. Having a go at illustrating a concept style preferably but it was fun coming up with the character. The final image ha my watermarks in because it's from my DA archive, along with the colour sheet.

Spikerella hates kids BTW.

I'm back with more, sorry again for the long absence, but I've finally finished all of my work and am in the process of building a website and making a show reel, which I hope to show to you soon.

I'm not back with my own stuff this time, I'm back with drawings you so long to see more of from me: Life Drawing! Yeah, I took up the classes after I went to a Games convention to meet professionals and they noticed I lacked in life drawing, so I bought a new sketchbook to put all of them in. These are from my first class, there'll be more on the way as soon as I get the sketchbook back from my tutors, it's in the process of being marked.

Ignore the site address on them folks, it's not launched yet as these will be part of my site's portfolio. Let me know what you think of them!
