Someday when I am more versed in enviros I will come back to this so I can do it justice.

Current ongoing WIP
Current ongoing CD packaging + illust. design for class. Name blocked out.
That's it for now. Had a huge art slump around midsummer to mid fall due to depressing issues. Am still kind of in the middle of it, to be honest.
Hi Kuroyue
Nice sketchbook so far. I came here from your thread in the lounge. You have a great eye for composition, perspective and design. I think you'd definitely benefit by doing more studies from life, like everyday objects and people, gestures are a great warm-up and you say you're studying art at the moment, do you have access to life drawing? Keep up the good work and I like realistic manga too![]()
Thank you very much for your encouragement! I have been getting the feeling lately that I've been too out-of-touch with real-life studies, so that is next on my hypothetical to-do list, depending on how comfortable I am with letting myself get serious about art. I am taking an art class, comp. 2d illustration, this semester, but I'm not actually in art school so this is just something like a cheap elective. Sadly, I don't have access to live, hired models, so I'll make do with what I have.
And yup, I am pretty much going for something like realistic manga. I love the manga art style, but not so much the stereotypical, huge eyes, so I'm looking up to various Pixiv artists, Ryohei Hase, Alex Stodolnik, Justin Cherry (nivbed), Kawayoo, and other misc. artists.
Early WIP of the CD case 1
Early WIP of the CD case 2
Front illust. without halftones
tongue closeup. Fun stuff.
A doodle. "Taking Up the Seat".
(Rectangular squares are armies.)
I really like that first one in post #125. Love giant flying creature stuff like that!! Nice colours too. Not being down on yourself helps too though! Every single artist starts out a beginner, like you and me. I've been there, and still hate my own work sometimes, but getting sucked into those negative thoughts isn't going to produce any growth, at best. It can be destructive too
Keep it up, and you will reach your goals.
Thanks a lot! I worked on that one for a pretty long time, compared to my other works. I think no matter what I do professionally, I'm just going to keep chugging along, improving at whatever pace I feel like. :>
Done in Sai. Gothic letters hand-drawn.
Practicing poses in perspective in an environment. For some reason, find it difficult to draw people in subtler, non-extreme angles (other than straight on).
I drew a room and am now wondering what to put in it. Hmm.
I think one of the things that would help a lot with your line drawings is to really think about the line weight (something I could use more of too lol). Cntrl Paint gives a good little simple yet effective tutorial on it.
Alot of these I think would gain a lot from it, like your CD case, it seems to have even line throughout. A little weight to emphasize the shadow and light might do wonders.
Nice SB though, digging the various perspectives.

There are many, many things I could do with this room. In this one, a floating girl in flooded/zero-gravity surroundings.
I need to find out how to make cubes turn in angles that are not 90 or 45.

Well, here's one meticulous way...
![]()
Resolved to rotate the above along a different axis. I think I've got it...
Did it by mapping out the faces, then using Transform>Skew to fit them on:
I've now tilted the box along two axes out of three. But I don't think I'll be able to handle the last one... I couldn't directly map out that center (unlabeled) panel after tilting it again along the other axis because I couldn't render the amount of foreshortening required, so I was able to figure it out after mapping out the other four faces of the prism. If I tilt what I have now along the last axis, that would be four out of six panels I can't map out, due to foreshortening. Hmm...

In other news, someone challenged me to draw a rocket launching alien.
Didn't spend much time on it; extremely ugly. Why on earth did I choose that shade of purple.

You've got some really nice work in this SB! I really like the lighting in post #132. Keep it up!
@Vertical: Thanks!
Shhhh let me pretend the lighting makes sense for now. I'll think of something later.

A few "quick" doodles, just to distract myself. Done over the course of...somewhere between 3-4 hours? Spent way more time on the first and lost a fair amount of time to a picture I lost when PS crashed. (How odd, PS never used to crash on me before...)

Not sure which is better.
Might touch up on this in the future, since this was slightly rushed. Boy, I'm slow.
Somehow I have a personal thing for Red Riding Hood going through an infinite journey.

Getting rusty...and also getting addicted to hand-drawn gothic calligraphy in photoshop.
(Most of the colors were taken from a cool photo.) (Also, this is horrible and sloppy and I don't like it, but it's something.)
May expand on this.

Eh, I think it's about time you change your SB's name!
You're getting so damn lots better here![]()
-Oh, and I am still considering "killing" your eye-monster if nobody else will the next few days. But it does require some new tactics and the right character to do that... And time! So let's see
And keep it up![]()
@Trixtar: But it's catchyyy....Actually, if I think of something better I might replace it. But for now, I'm content with the title. And thank you very much!
Please do kill it off--long live the thread! And I'd be interested in what kind of thing could beat it, heh.
-The way the head sits on the shoulders really doesn’t look right.
-Since I have folders and folders stuffed with refs of everything, it makes sense that I should go use them for once.
-Personal note: only use very ‘animu’ eyes if there’s a very good design to go with it.
-My excuse this time: experimentation. Also, first time using texture on top.
